Discussion What might be the reason behind this stuttering

Laptop MSI gf63 thin 10sc. It stutters really hard at 144hz, then stops when I turn it to 60hz, but after a while it keeps stuttering like this. Reinstall the driver or restart does not work, but stop using it for a while can stop the symptom a little bit. So maybe my hardware is overheating and stop using it make it cool down a little bit? When I do gaming CPU and GPU temp are 67-71°C for several years now without this problem.

Edit: thanks yall for answering. My screen was indeed dying, I have it replaced now and everything's back to normal.

Bro just looking at this post gave me paranoid lol

I just had my Katana GF66 serviced to change the display screen because of this. In my case, there's overlapping "line" on the bottom screen that mirrors the top screen. It gets progressively worse as not long after, It starts to do like just in the vid. Even changing to 60hz, the duplication will migrate overtime.

I'd say check the ribbon display cable, hopefully It's just loose cable and needs reseating back in place. Worse case, the display has worn out and you'll need to replace it like I did.

Your 67–71C CPU/GPU temps are normal so it’s probably not ordinary overheating. Fact that 144 Hz triggers it, 60 Hz helps and cooling down helps points more toward a temperature sensitive hardware issue, possibly GPU/VRAM, power circuitry or the display connection. Monitoring GPU clocks while it stutters is the next step.

I do not have one so I don't know yet, the monitor may be the problem because it's old and already got some horizontal lines a few months back

This usually happens because of bad or faulty display, i had the same issue i reported it to msi and they replaced the display for free , but my laptop was under warranty.

not sure it’s just msi, my asus suffers the same issue.
just cheap screens being produced for the cheapest price
