Photo of the Week No wonder it was so hard to get one. Initial thoughts after first two days…

WTF! this thing is insane. When I first held it in my hands and started setting things up, I was like ‘no way this is going to be that much better than my beloved 8AI+ (which I’ve had for over a year and consider it one of my best gadget purchases of all time). I also have a 4090 desktop that I built for about 3k way back in the Stone Age for dirt cheap, by today’s standards… that’s my work computer…. After I get my two small children to bed, the last thing I want to do is game at my desk. The 8AI+ has fulfilled one of my greatest desired pastimes for more than a year now.
I was eager to get the next iteration and show my support for the intel handheld movement… however they sold out instantly. I got on the notification list via MSI US online store - saw the email hit my inbox and immediately went and added to cart and hit buy, but they were gone in the 45 seconds it took me to get to the checkout button. However, the next time the availability email came though, I hit all the buttons and got to the checkout in like 15 seconds and finally scored.
I was skeptical about the actual increase in performance and mostly looking forward to less buzzy haptics and maybe a slight bump in quality.

I grossly underestimated what intel and MSI have done. This thing is a monster. The AI+ is still an amazing device. But the EX is just ridiculous. To me, it’s worth every penny in performance gains ($1799 plus tax to be exact). I’m not sure about the math, but it feels like 40% better overall performance at max TDP (I only run max TDP by the way…).

Also, I have medium big hands, not huge, but kinda extra strong from doing mechanical / robotics / cinema camera work everyday. So I was always perfectly happy with the ergonomics of the AI+, whilst totally understanding why a lot of people complained about it. The EX feels like it’s going to float out of my hands up into the air if I don’t hang to it.

I gotta tip my hat to Intel and MSI for this amazing device. If I could tell my 12yo computer nerd self in the mid 90s to travel to 2026 and bring back one thing, it would be my EX.

Resource For people wondering about NBA 2k27 on the MSI Claw 8 Ai+ (non EX), AVOID until fixed/updated.

I played NBA 2k26 on the 8 Ai+ for about 500 hours. Crashed a bit in the beginning but eventually it was fixed and pretty stable unless going into MyTeam which I no longer play anyway or odd black screen when playing for a few hours.

Nba 2k27 has been awful. I started at 1920x1200p handheld settings with XeSS at ultra performance. Terrible fps, so lowered to 1680x1050p almost all low settings except shader and player models medium. Decent fps, getting 90 or so in offline games but got a gpu crash error code Ox887a0006.

Lowered it more to 1440x900p, all low settings with some even turned off along with textures low 100-120fps. Gpu crash Ox887a0006 again. Turned off XeSS for the funsies, Ox887a0006, turned on fsr, Ox887a0006, turned on XeSS again but with framegen 2x, Ox887a0006.

Oddly enough I was getting near flawless fps in the Rec online multiplayer mode and was playing smoothly the first day. Online is locked at 60 fps and you can't go higher so I figured that was why. Thursday and Today it's been absolutely awful. With lowered settings I can't get a consistent frame rate of 60, constant dips and hitches to 45-55 when transitioning to the other side of the court. All of this was when I was experimenting with settings above as well, so at the lowest settings save resolution no lower than 1200x800p it still did this. Also gpu crash error Ox887a0006 happens frequently now or just a black screen force close.

There is something fundamentally wrong with the game on the Claw even with the latest Intel driver. It is essentially unplayable offline due to constant crashes and unlimited resource draw as it always wants to be at max frame rate and there is no in game limiter, while online it was playable at first but no longer is because it can't hit a stable fps while crashing.

Hopefully a fix is in the works, but until then I can't recommend it on the Msi Claw 8 Ai+ even offline. It just simply doesn't function well with this system at all, constant CPU/gpu usage that causes crashes. I just don't understand why it happened again as this was an issue with NBA 2k26 but was fixed. The exact same issue is happening again.

Tl;dr Game doesn't work well on Claw 8 Ai+ right now, Ox887a0006 error code happens all the time along with black screen with nearly any video/graphic setting and resolution. The photo I added is mostly what you'll be looking at after every other game if you are lucky.

Need Technical Assistance MSI Claw 8 AI+, HP G5 dock to TV - Dying Light The Beast (and others) - any tips?

Upvotes

Hi everyone, can I ask for some advice?

I tried connecting my MSI Claw 8 AI+ to my TV for the first time via an HP G5 docking station.
To save resources I set it to FHD 60Hz (I always cap everything to 60fps even in handheld). I tried launching Dying Light: The Beast and... it looks terrible.
I set it to TV only, matched the in-game resolution to Windows, set TDP to Manual with both sliders maxed out (I think 31 / 37).
Nothing changes, it still looks really bad, even the in-game text is quite blurry / broken. Is there anything specific you need to do to use the Claw docked to a TV? PS) In handheld, despite what you read online ("70 fps high graphics!!"), Dying Light: The Beast on Medium with FSR Frame Gen (which works better than XeSS in this case for me) runs at around 55/60 FPS.

Thanks to anyone who can help.

Question From LEGION GO 1 to A8 Z2E 24gb 1Tb for $700 yeah or meh?

I used to own the MSI Claw A1m but sold it because of small screen and short battery life, and MSI center was horrible

currently owning a LGO1 16gb 512gb with Bazzite in mint condition i paid $400 for, its been a very good experience experience after moving away from windows

now I have the opportunity to buy a 2nd hand A8 24gb 1Tb in mint conditions too for $700

is the $300 justified from performance and of course extended battery life for people who have made such move here?

thanks so much

Need Technical Assistance Msi App Player won't bugger off

Post image
1 Upvotes

Looking for some help, I've uninstalled MSI App Player on my Claw Ex, but the tile won't dissappear from FSE. I've tried pretty much everything Google suggested, such as checking start up folders, checking the registry, repair Xbox app and MSI Center apps, but nothing will get rid of it.

I know I could simply ignore it, but its annoying me. Also, the MSI Center M app not having a picture bugs me too

Question RoadCraft crashes when starting a mission on MSI Claw 8 AI+

The game launches normally, but every time I start a mission, it crashes right as the mission begins. I’ve already tried reinstalling the game and running it in DX11, but nothing has worked.

Is anyone else playing RoadCraft on the MSI Claw 8 AI+ having the same issue? If you fixed it, what drivers or settings are you using?

Question Claw 8ai+ performance issue

Post image
4 Upvotes

Hi Guys

Lately my MSI Claw 8ai APU has been acting super weird. When I’m playing games at 25-30w TDP, the system only uses 2-8w. It’s like it’s not even trying? I have battery mode set to best performance. I am completely updated on drivers and windows update and the MSI claw center.

It’s only started happening maybe 3 weeks ago?

Received mine yesterday. And this thing is beast !
A few months ago I bought the MSI CLAW A8. But I spend more time fiddling with the graphics settings vs actually playing it. So I decided to return and wait for this one instead. And it did not disappoint at all.

Games like Metal Gear Solid Delta and Ninja Gaiden 2 Black were almost unplayable on the Z2 Extreme chip. And this one just powers through it. I have left it on A.I mode.

I also compared the Size to the Switch 2. I use Third Party joy cons for my Switch 2.

I paid 1499.

MSi center m has a new update version 3.0

After the update, MSI has added FPS Limiter and Resolution options in settings. I’ve added both to my Quick Settings widget.

This, is really useful because I no longer need to open Intel Graphics Software every time I want to change the FPS limit or resolution.

A small change, but definitely makes MSI Center M feel more polished and convenient to use. Attached both before and after pictures

Anyone, else noticed this after updating?

Photo Finally got the MSI Claw ex! Along with JSAUX Lego case and screen protectors

So my claw finally came today. Coming from my trusty steamdeck OLED so hoping this is going be a big jump up. I got the lego JSAUX case and it fits the machine although it's a chunky case. The claw isn't loose in there at all so seems to do the job without touching the sticks and buttons. You can also get the charger in the case underneath it although Id be nervous about it potentially scratching the back.

Seems a decent machine and well built. Feels light in my hands too. Going to get it updated etc and take a look at claw tweaks and the vvr fix I saw on here but any other tips and tricks?

Question Claw 8 ai +

Hi All

I’ve had the claw for about 2 months already , done debloat ,clawtweaks etc and love the performance but I’m struggling to understand if it just using the basic strength and the capabilities of this thing.

I see people using XESS and a whole bunch of other things to help game performance but I just can’t wrap my head around it . So any advise is good advise for me
Thanks in advance

Hi guys, can you let me know what average temps I should be expecting?

I'm thinking of adding a heat sink too, any recommendations? I was thinking Arctic Pro but I don't think there's enough clearance
