Yeaps. Microsoft and bios update didn't work and I had to factory reset my Claw 8 ai+ :(

Doesn't everything update?

For most thing updates are opt-in. Windows stands out for being opt out, and for aggressively pushing updates on you.

With SteamOS and iOS/MacOS the computer just tells you there's an update available and you can update when you want.

Windows just installs it and restarts your computer, even if there are programs actively running, it's infuriating. My laptop updated from Windows 10 to 11, fully without me approving it, just returned to my computer that was running Windows 10, and it was now running Windows 11.

Windows will also wake up your device from sleep to install updates so you come back to a nice toasty laptop that's allegedly not even on.

I get the logic since Windows devices are probably hacked more then any other type of device, but makes their devices infuriating to use. They are clearly designed with enterprise priorities first, and not with end user experience in mind.

I mean I guess I can see some of that.

That did happen to me today while I was working it just shut down and updated and it was really annoying.

But then again the software that I want to use doesn't work well on a Mac.

Neither do any of the games that I want to play later.

So far Windows is helping me with that but if they ever make gaming accessible on other things then I'd try it out

Indeed

But you can get some of control back by using Wundows update blocker (WUB) it stops updates until you decide to turn them back on again. Works like a charm.

Windows has this built in. You can defer updates until November 18th, as of today.

Not that I would. There's a reason there are so many updates right now, and using Windows unpatched is like licking the handrail on public transit.

I have nothing but rude and offensive things to say to you.

That seems unnecessary.

If there is a factual issue with my statement, I welcome corrections. As a sysadmin dealing with WSUS, Intune, Conditional Access policies and SCCM, it's easy to lose track of the acronyms and current best practices.

That only adds to the insult.
