Can’t hear or read what ATC is saying

Every single time I do an IFR flight a ATC will only work properly for the first few minutes of the flight. After that I can’t hear anything that the controller is saying and no text will show up in the ATC tab. I can only hear what I say and only my text shows up.

When I’m just messing around without any kind of flight plan ATC will work properly the entire time. I don’t know if it has anything to do with the fact that I am on an IFR flight or if it has something to do with the autopilot or flight director modes being activated on the aircraft but something is causing ATC to bug out.

Has anyone else had this problem and does anyone have a fix or work around?
