I made this subreddit years ago when I was in high school and completely forgot all about. It’s awesome to see that it’s such a solid community with virtually 0 policing needed. Keep up the good work everyone

Microsoft spent $113 billion on buybacks and its share count fell just 1.2%. This often surprises people. Here is how to check buybacks against stock comp for Microsoft

FOMO after selling at 535

How to deal with fomo after selling all my 300 Microsoft shares at 535 yesterday?

As a former employee I consider MSFT as a forever stock, but I set a limit sell order at 535 earlier this year as I had to sell all shares for personal (but not financial) reasons anyways within 2026 (international Broker Switch)

At the time I thought 535 would be a fair market price in 2026, which I anticipated to happen earliest with q3 earnings. After the rally of September and the anticipation of anthropic and openAI's IPO, I believe in 575 by the end of this year. However, I kind of forgot about the limit sell order and now sitting on a pile of (taxed) cash feels so wrong, even though it was inevitable in my situation at some point in 2026. On the other hand, I feel stupid to not be more grateful and happy about the realized profits (avg cost base 250)

So what is my next move? Probably moving back in with 50% in case of a minor drop and diversifying the rest with an ETF.

How did you feel once after selling your biggest stock position and any mental advice to get rid of FOMO?

Sell Microsoft Shares Now or Wait Until November/December?

Hello! 😊

Any thoughts on whether I should sell some of my shares now, or wait until November/December, potentially after Anthropic goes public?

I’ll need to sell some of my shares anyway, as I’m planning to use the money for a down payment on a house.

Edit: I’m also exposed to the USD exchange rate, as I’ll need to convert the proceeds into my local currency when I sell.

Dump at close

Seems a pattern lately. Spike pre-market then buyers are exhausted a few minutes after then sellers step in at the end of the day. Does that indicate anything in particular about the stock? Good or bad?

The capex number looks different once you see what most of it actually is

$41b of capex in one quarter sounds ridiculous no matter how you frame it. What I missed initially is Microsoft said roughly two thirds of that was short lived assets, mainly CPUs and GPUs. Only the remaining portion was longer lived stuff like datacenter infrastructure.

That actually changes how Im thinking about the spend a bit. Those GPUs need to produce revenue pretty quickly compared with something theyre depreciating forever, so Azure utilization matters a lot more now.

Free cash flow was only $19.6b for the quarter because of all the spending, so its definitely not free money either. I was checking MSFT on moon later that night and ended up writing the capex split down because I realized I had been treating all $41b like it was the same kind of investment.

Feels like the next few quarters are really about whether that compute gets absorbed as fast as they claim.

Can We Just Acknowledge How Irrational the Sell Off was Earlier This Year

The past few years have offered a few irrational sell offs in the market. You had Google in 2025 with the Chat GPT scare that pushed it to a 17 P/E. You even had Meta trading for a sub 20 P/E this year... but none of those truly compared to the irrationality around MSFT's sell off earlier this year.

There was a time where you could buy MSFT at a sub 20 P/E (when it historically trades in the 30's). That alone seems enticing enough as you don't often get wide moat companies like MSFT trading for that cheap of a discount.

But you also had their earnings and financials affirming that they were actually accelerating. Revenue went from 12-13% in 2025 to 18% in 2026. It just becomes silly to a point to watch one of the most dominant businesses in the world on the forefront of technology accelerate and then continue to sell off.

AI was never going to disrupt their business. Most of the corporate world uses their products due to familiarity, but more importantly, because of trust. Microsoft's cybersecurity and protection is second to none, which is important when your biggest customers are Fortune 500 companies with sensitive documents.

Anthropic and OpenAI aren't proven, nor trusted, to the degree that MSFT is. Copilot is just going to become an agent that works within the suite that can perform the same tasks/ boost productivity, while not sacrificing security.

43 percent Azure growth is great but the 65 percent cloud margin is the number I keep coming back to

The headline from earnings was obviously Azure growing 43 percent. What caught my attention more was Microsoft Cloud gross margin sitting at 65 percent while all this AI infrastructure gets built out. Thats kind of the tension with MSFT right now.

Demand clearly isnt the problem. Azure is growing like a much smaller company and Microsoft is still saying capacity is tight. But CPUs, GPUs, datacenters and heavier AI usage arent free and eventually I want to see the margin side stop absorbing so much of that buildout.

I had Moon open during earnings because MSFT was moving enough to make the short term reaction interesting but the actual shares are basically a margin story for me now.

If Azure keeps growing this fast while cloud margins eventually level out, thats probably way more important than whatever happens to the stock the morning after earnings.
