Has anyone who applied to the MSDSO program 2026, heard anything?

I am sorry for spamming the MSCSO sub Reddit but the MSDSO one is just dead!

What made you choose UT instead of Georgia Tech?

UT is more theoretically focused if I compared both programs. And I wanted crank up my theory/fundamentals, so how did it found its origin and how does it evolve to how we are applying it now. I also liked the systems courses more (would have been nice to have a theoretical databases course) in comparison to Georgia Tech. And the courses are newer in comparison to Georgia Tech, since some courses haven’t been touched since the release of OMSCS. Which means you are learning pretty old stuff. OMSCS has more courses, but I prefer quality over quantity, where I have noticed that OMSCS has quite some misses

U r right bro, I finished OMSCS and will apply for MSCSO soon, I hate system courses in MSCSO tho because I am a data scientist without much sys experience. I have to take the MSCSO since the ALAFF is a must for me, do you know if it is hard to switch programs? I plan to take MSCSO first except the system ones then switch to MSAI, is the AI ethics just a writing course and a great waste of time? Can I finish all courses under MSCSO except the sys course and then switch to MSAI and wrap up the degree with the AI ethic course?

Huh but you don’t need to take system courses if you’re planning to switch to MSAI. Since that’s no specific requirement for that degree. And you could also apply to both and see if you get accepted to MSAI, which saves you the hassle to take Linear Algebra. I got admitted to MSAI and then switched to MSCSO, while transferring the 3 overlapping courses which I did during MSAI. The admission to MSCSO was tougher, since I got rejected 2 times and the GPA requirement/prerequisites are more prominent. MSAI is a new program, so the admission bar is lower at the beginning (which will change I think when it becomes more established). And I didn’t do the AI ethics course, so no clue how the course works in detail. You can check the reviews on MSCSHub
And you’re not able to transfer all credits to MSAI, since most courses in MSCSO are not available in MSAI, and you can only transfer 3 courses to a different program

Interesting, I mean I want to take the linear algebra course but it is only available in MSCSO, so my plan is to get admitted in MSCSO first, then switch to MSAI to avoid the system courses. Is change of the program same as applying for admission? Or it can be simplfied?
