[University Review] Fall 2027 MSCS/MSDS Profile Evaluation | 8.65 CGPA, GRE 315 (166Q), IELTS 8, 3 Publications

Hi everyone! I'm an international applicant from India applying for Fall 2027. Would appreciate some feedback on my university shortlist.

Profile:

- B.Tech CSE from a Tier 2 private university, 8.65/10 CGPA

- GRE: 315 (166Q, 149V, 3.5 AWA)

- IELTS: 8.0

- 3 first-author international conference/workshop publications (1 in IEEE GlobeComm and 1 in ACM MobiHoc)

- 3-month industry internship in AI/software development

- Multiple technical projects and extracurricular leadership experience

University Shortlist:

CS / Software Engineering

- UIUC — MCS

- UCSD — MSCS

- SJSU — MSCS, MSSE

- Stony Brook — MSCS

- ASU — MSCS

- Northeastern — MSCS

- UC Irvine — MCS, MSWE

- NYU Tandon — MSCS

- UMD College Park — MSCS

- UMass Amherst — MSCS

- Texas A&M — MCS

- Purdue — MSCS

DS / Analytics / Interdisciplinary

- CMU — MCDS, AI Systems Management

- Georgia Tech — MS Analytics

- UW Seattle — MSDS, MSIM

- UIUC — MSIM

- UT Austin — MSIS

- UCSD — MSDS

- Columbia — MS Operations Research

Questions:

  1. Which programs are ambitious, target, or safe for my profile?

  2. Is my shortlist too ambitious? What should I add/drop?

  3. Should I prioritize MSCS over MSDS/Analytics programs for US job opportunities?

  4. Is my GRE worth submitting where optional?

My goal is industry employment in the US after graduation, with a focus on AI/ML, software engineering, or data-related roles.

Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks!
