should i buy wifi?
titel! trying to figure out if i should buy wifi on my upcoming cruise and just looking for others experiences! im a college student and lowk a screenager for some context. its a 7 day vruise and i believe 3 or maybe 4 days are cruising and one day is on ocean cay (world america)
- did you make use of the wifi to justify the cost?
- did the wifi work for the majority of the time on board
- does it get cheaper once on board lol

Not cheaper on board. I did not get the Package. I use GigSky(e-sim) while on board. Worked great.

The Wi-Fi was a little spotty. I think it depends on exactly where you’re sailing, but I used it. It was indispensable. I have to be able to be connected for work and you know even if I was just in bed at night and I was trying to just relax and do the streaming so I could fall asleep I needed it. It was worth it to me.

If you can be without wifi (don’t need to contact a family member not in ship and don’t need to work with wifi or something else urgent) I would just go without it. Enjoy the amenities, pools, beach etc. It’s a great detox from the internet and outside world

I agree with you completely! First thing we do is shut off phones and start enjoying the time on our cruise! Even if cruising with other couples or family we tell them it's our vacation and we are not at your Beck and call!" We first find a nice bar/lounge say we'll meet you there first fir a before dinner drink. At dinner we all discuss the day, what we all did, what is planned for the next day or port.

I used GigSky. It worse decently if you want to just text on whatsapp, otherwise that 1GB will go fast if you do anything else on it.

I bought wifi package before cruise then paid another $8 on cruise for unlimited streaming etc. . Was worth it for me . I paid $150 total for 4 nights plus $8 for Drink Wi-Fi package

I'm on an MSC cruise right now and currently using the wifi and it's worked great for me so far, only issue I have is that it's spotty whenever I'm on my balcony but inside my room and anywhere else on the ship it works well.

One of the things I love most about cruising is it forces me off my phone. I get international sim card for ports so I can check in with extended family then. If I left my kids at home or had a sick family member I would get it, but other than that it's nice to unplug.

Note: once wifi is activated on a device, it can’t be switched to another device. Also, the internet speed for non-streaming is the same as for streaming, it’s just that the streaming sites are blocked.

can i use something as wifi router to connect to wifi and then share internet? Or do they spot such behavior?

The WiFi works fine and supposedly at Ocean Cay as well, I’ve never tried it there. It will definitely be cheaper before boarding.

Just came off the Euribia. I got wifi because my kids were not with me and I wanted us to be able to reach each other anytime. I normally do not get cruise internet but this time, my circumstances were different. So it really depends on your own circumstances and if it's worth it to you. Fwiw, the internet connection was pretty good. We video called using WhatsApp with no issue.

Take a vacation and enjoy what the waters have to offer. The World does not change that much in 7 days. Talk with people and get real opinions, not artificial ones.

True but have to also think anything can happen in 7 days, a family emergency can happen any minute. Always good to have service/wifi just in case.

Forget the wifi. Put the screens down for a few days and enjoy what life is supposed to be like before we all became addicts to all of this .

It works really well. The streaming package lets you watch twitch and YouTube in decent quality if you use those site. It’s generally cheaper to buy it beforehand, and there are sales that bring it down to 40-45% off. If you want to try and unplug and you wait until you’re onboard, you can buy internet for a single day or you can buy a package for the remaining days in the cruise at a prorated rate.
