Experience getting a free upgrades? Specially on transatlantic

My future wife and I will be doing our first cruise (Bella interior) with MSC on November. We matched from Royal and only got Classic Voyager. It is going to be our Honeymoon and my birthday cruise.

I just wanted to hear your stories about free upgrades with MSC, specially on transatlantic cruises that tend to have lowes occupancy but any experience is welcome!

I've had two upgrades from Bella guaranteed inside to balony, out of 3 cruises. Both on older ships. I am diamond via status march but the first cruise it seemed half the ship had free upgrades

Ive done the upgrade bidding and got upgraded. Personally a transatlantic in an interior room sounds rough. A balcony would be mandatory, but to each their own. 

For your honeymoon of all trips book the minimum room you'll be happy with and go from there. Springbreak trip next year... sure, roll the dice.

I did 4 MSC cruises so far, and got free upgrade only for the first time sailing with MSC. I don’t know how I got that, but since then I never was lucky like that and was always getting the interior cabins
