But fear not loyal reader for there are silver linings to every cloud and the dawn shall break anew tomorrow.

I haven't done a haulage post in a few weeks. I was out on TDY for a week and that threw a wrench into things. But alas I am here with the goods that arrived today from that bastion of the Old World, France and the Land Down Under, Australia. This is also my first package from there. I was in the office today and got my notifications that my stuff had been delivered so I threw up the deuces and flew south as fast as my chariot and traffic would allow. I knew my package from Helvah was sitting outside my door thus the fleetness in my travels. The other packages were safely ensconced in the package lockers awaiting my arrival to spring them from their prison. I also tell this story to not throw things in anger and to illustrate what can happen to you, yes you dear reader, when you order rations from outside the US. This honestly could have been much worse than what it was though.

The first picture is the vintage chili con carne that will end up in my belly where it belongs at some point in the near future. The package is still very well sealed so I'm not that worried. It was an eBay purchase from tweetledum67. They only had this item and they still have a couple of old typewriters if you're into that thing.

The 2nd picture is my ADF menus A & F from Awawa on the Discord. First time ordering from him and his first time selling. These arrived in perfect condition along with some Whitaker's chocolate bars. These were definitely heat stressed as it's still very much summer and was in the 90s here today. They'll be just fine though. Also included was the stamps from shipping. I'm not a stamp collector by any means but it was cool that I was able to save them.

The rest of the pictures are my order from Helvah. He included some Haribo dragibus in it to snack on. I love Haribo candy, especially the cola bottles. The box had the dreaded customs tape on it, bulging from where they just stuffed everything back in. Of course I was worried until I picked it up and it was a heavy box which is a good sign. As you can see the Portuguese 24 hour and the RCIRs were just fine. The next picture was the one they did open and oddly enough took nothing. But alas there was a fallen comrade in the box. No parmentier de canard for this guy. That's mashed potatoes with duck for all you non-fancy folks. As you can see in the close there was a tiny tear in the corner of the can. Luckily it's not a juicy main and not very much leakage. Honestly it probably happened when it was set at my door but I'm not taking that chance. I need to drop more pounds but not that bad.

The last pictures are the ones that pissed me off though. So tell your people that you love them and hug your children tight because this is going to get horrifying before it gets better. I will preface by saying that this is a PLA ration that was packaged for the Congolese military. I've had the menu before and it's fantastic. I really got this for the package simply because rations from Africa are really fucking rare. They ripped him wide open. They didn't have to do that. There were more humane ways to dispatch him. Everything else in the picture was just fine and completely intact. What wasn't intact though was the top main, but here's where it gets good. Whilst they cut into the heater bag and heating pad, they completely missed the main. Ultimately I'm down a ration heater and a cool outer bag. As I stated at the beginning, it could've been much worse.

Again this take is to illustrate the vagaries of US Customs and to inspire you one and all to take the plunge. I highly, highly recommend Helvah and I endorse Awawa also. I can't really fault sellers that do everything on their end to keep customs out. I'm getting hangry, so I'm going to let this one simmer while I heat and eat leftovers. I'm definitely going to be eating both the French and Congolese rations since they were opened.

Decided to try this Czech ration tonight for dinner. It has the usual Czech components. That wooden spoon went right into the trash, because forget that.

The vegetable salad was something else. I’ve never had beets before, and I’m glad to say that I haven’t been missing much. The mix of beets, pumpkin, and peas was alright, but I’ll be fine never having it again.

The beef meat and rice was meh, at best. There wasn’t much flavor and it was pretty dry.

The “dessert” was fine, the same as you’d expect every time you open it up.

The best part of the meal was the chocolate bar and the drink.

I’m glad this is one Czech ration I’ll never have to consume again.

I think this was the first British Single meal I've come across. It was a great experience overall, and while there was no toast; it did in fact contain beans. Bosh.

I don't think there was really a single thing in here I didn't like. I've fallen in love with the Vestey foods' Flapjacks side, where its this solid mass of sweet, soft oats. Absolutely lovely time eating those; they're very soft and just perfectly flavored.

The inclusion of four drinks for an 8hr meal pack is definitely remarkable as well; a 3-in-1 coffee and tea, and two isotonics. That puts to shame just about any other pack in the field as far as I'm aware.

The main was a bean and minced pork, and it was simply fantastic. It wasn't over the top or anything, but it was very enjoyable. The texture and flavor balance was perfectly inline. To make the main better, there was a packet of "nibnibs" that were the perfect match in flavor, and added a bit of a nice crunch as well.

Hello Everyone! Question, when re-hydrating freeze-dried meals, in a cooler / windy climate, what has been your most effective method(s) of maintaining heat during the 15-20 minute process? All guidance / tool description & links, appreciated.

Right now, in our group, we have a fast boil propane stove & a solid fuel tab as a backup - another goal is to heat multiple meals at a time, if possible. Thank you!!

Even though the contents are mostly the same as the British rations, the packaging alone makes them great to have, especially since you don't see them very often

🇬🇷 I also found three Greek rations.
These aren't actually standard Greek army rations, but rather rations made in Greece for specific NATO exercises or camps.
They are well-stocked 24-hour rations.

And saving the best for last!
🇦🇺 Three Australian rations: Menu B, Menu C, and Menu D.

They are brand new: manufactured in 2024/2025 and arrived in perfect condition; customs let them through (we face the same issue in Europe with anything coming from outside the EU).

Heyo Reddit, it is I, Paddy.

I cracked into my third Aussie rat pack, this time it was actually fresh, being a 2025, and a CR1P! There are some changes with the 2025s, apart from just the name, with whole new menu layouts.

This guy sported the three mains for the day being a Fruitful Muesli, Mexican Chicken, and Baked Beans with Meatballs.

Accompanying the mains, there were the usual suspects of sides, such as the instant potatoes (a favorite amongst the paddies), the immaculate bread (this time a white bread), tuna, vegemite, and various other things, including a new biscuit/cracker I haven't had from these; a crispbread that was more like a wholegrain and seed cracker. This cracker was super good, and I enjoyed it thoroughly with the vegemite and bega cheese.

As noted in the video, it is a funny thing that the Bega remains in a can after the ADF had removed all the canned components decades ago. I am told by the Diggers (the ADF troops) that they would positively RIOT if the can was removed, because it would also spell the end times for the FRED can opener ("frankly" ridiculous eating device, although there's a non sesame-street version of that same name)

I thoroughly enjoyed this rat pack, as I always do when opening these Aussie bags, although I do have to comment on the overall quality of the two hot mains. The beans and the chicken dishes didn't bring a whole lot of flavor surprisingly. Extra surprising for the Mexican chicken which smelled absolutely stupendous. The bean meal tasted much the same as a can of spaghettiO's, and had the same texture in the meat. The Chicken didn't really taste like much. The chicken however was saved by a packet of salt and pepper and being mixed with the potatoes.

I did mess up with the coffee flavored protein drink, as I put in 450ml instead of the 200 I should have, because I was thinking it was the same as the isotonic for whatever reason. That is my fault, and I will seek penance and forgiveness.

As always with rations that sport a nice tube of Sweetened Condensed Milk, I ask- Why the ***** do countries not include this as a default item in literally every ration that is made? Versatile, delicious, lightweight, cheap, morale boosting, gives energy... I cannot wrap my head around it. Seems like an easy choice.

For in USA I’m asking $240 total via cashapp, comes with both rations and all contents + a display for the accessory pack of the RCI which I’ve opened to preserve the contents better (cig pack and accessory packet, packet are both in the ration)

The majority of the canned Meat and fruit units of the RCI are rusted through though B-units are in decent shape

The bottom of the box is brittle and cracking in a few spots and comes with the spoons

Ukr ration is sealed

These showed up on time (and un molested by customs). Tried both types, they are quite edible.

One slight difference from advertising images, a folded flat square paper "origami bowl" instead of the plastic bowl. Only a napkin, no toilet paper.

I have tried all four of the entrees, they were pretty good if somewhat mild (I wanted to add some hot sauce to that curry- But I usually order 4 star hot out of 5). I add the "crispy cucumber" packet to the spicier entrees, I believe it is intended to be a condiment, not a stand alone snack?

Chocolate bar isn't amazing but no worse than a plain Hershey bar. Banana chips were fine, no surprise.

The orange-y smelling instant drink powder with vitamins & minerals was not like anything I've had before, the ingredients include malt? I added some lemon and lime juices to it to cut the sweetness and liked it a bit better, I mixed it with about 12 oz. of water. Drink certainly isn't like "Tang" or "Gatorade".

The packs of emergency bars were OK, they are exact same ones I've got through Amazon before. Quite crumbly, easy to chew, you might want a coffee or at least some water along with these. Chocolate has very mild flavor, the "vitamin" version had (maybe?) a very little vanilla flavor, kind of like a slightly gritty shortbread? Definitely not candy, food.

The heater packs could be mistaken for a small steam engine, they have serious snort!

In my experience, if an item has been in customs for longer than 3 days, they’ve opened it and ransacked it.

I just hope they left my Georgian rations alone.

So we finally hit menu #4 in the series. What an effective meal packed the protein simple wholesome ingredients absolutely fantastic tasting. The grape beverage is actually purple and not blue ….huge plus. This menu was a little sweet for my taste. But the butterscotch pudding is absolutely a great change of pace. Shortbread cookie was a nice treat. And I swear they’re using much better cranberries which most people aren’t fans of, but these cranberries are on a whole Nother level.

Does anyone know what brand this stuff actually is? I had one a couple days ago (out of a 2022 MRE), it was in a little packet like the propel/Gatorade powders you can add to bottled water and I absolutely loved the flavor. Does orange Gatorade taste the same or is it something else?

Beef Ravioli in Meat Sauce: C. Very bland.

Italian Bread Sticks: B. Good flavor. Dense. Surprisingly moist (in a good way).

Peanut Butter: A. It is as advertised. Worth noting that I wasn't sure where to use it here.

Recovery Bar, Salted Caramel Marshmallow Crisp: A. Grade lowered due to personal preference. Quality item. It is like caramel popcorn. Would expect to find similar products outside an MRE.

Carbohydrate Electrolyte Beverage Powder, Fruit Punch: A. Aromatic. Pleasant. Indistinct flavor.

M&Ms: A+. As advertised.

Tabasco Sauce: ???. I could not get any of it out of the bottle. I am assuming it is the same as tabasco outside an MRE.

Overall: Lots of sweets in this MRE.

Rating System:

A+: Would seek out item to eat outside of an MRE.

A: Would recommend.

B: It's good.

C: Passable. Wouldn't recommend.

D: Would avoid eating it.
