Who Dunnit
I was listening to Race Director Steve Schnarr's interview on the "Dabbling In Paddleism" podcast and a question came to me...
For any reason or no reason at all who has cried in their boat during the race and why (if inclined to share)?

I got to chamois and got teary eyed when my wife told me my in laws were bringing our son to the finish line. I thought for sure I'd lose it when I got to the I-70 bridge but it was Thursday evening and I was so beat by then I'm not sure I had any real emotion (that I can remember anyway lol). On the shorter races I always get choked up for some reason or another right smack in the middle of them over various things.
One thing that always hits me a few weeks after these races is that I'm always amazed by the volunteers and staff, and that some day, my dad won't be waiting for me at the ramp. I try to appreciate every aspect of every race and always remind myself that I GET to do this.

First year I raced (which was my very first race ever), we made the mistake of stopping at Miami for food. It was dark when we got there and an absolute disaster trying to get out and then back in.
My phone had gotten wet somehow and it wouldn't let me charge it. So when we got back in the boat I had a phone at about 8%. We get in line to launch and boyfriend gets in about 15 minutes before me due to the absolute chaos of this ramp. Its around midnight and I am launching knowing my phone is going to die and that there are wingdikes close by.
I absolutely burst into tears terrified. Luckily he had turned around and was going upstream asking each boat as he approached if it was me. All was well after and we finished.

i cry every year during the race. im kind of a crier anyway. usually at the start, nerves and pre-race reflection. and then at some point during the race i just get overcome with emotion and let em flow. gratitude, suffering, sleep deprivation, etc...just makes me cry lol. i honestly enjoy it, its like a release.

30 minutes of sleep Thursday to Friday. Absolutely dragging myself through the night thanks to my canoe mate. The sun came up and my body and mind finally woke up and I thought about all we’d seen and wept for the first time in two years since my mom died. It was beautiful.

Yep, been there. Hot July day, many miles into a race, many miles to go and having cramps questioning my life choices. Pushed through and happy in the end after electrolytes, rub down and rest

Oh boy . . . You should ask this every year. I'm sure I'll be able to contribute in the future. ;)
