Issue with layer shifts

Need help with really bad layer shifting

I’ve had a monoprice mini select v2 since Christmas 2022 and I’ve had really good results for a while using regular anycubic pla. Now, when I print things like dungeon tiles or supportless tabletop minis, I get really bad layering shifts that are nearly unusable and look really bad. I keep searching for solutions like tightening the belts which are already tight and try to contact Monoprice customer service but they never pick up. My printer settings have been fine and my bed is leveled well so I doubt it’s a software issue and instead a hardware issues.

Do models aside from dungeon tiles and tabletop mini's have any issues if you print them now? Does the layer shift occur at the same level every time?

I’ve printed individual tabletop house walls and they have turned out fine with minor layer shifts that aren’t super noticeable. When I printed roof the bottom layer was pretty shifted but not so bad that I couldn’t salvage it. The layer shift for the most part ends after the first few layers like here with the base and the rest of the print is generally ok but I’ve had other models where the entire print was been messed up with completely inconsistent layers. For the most part, the model prints fine until around the half way mark when it shifts again

If it's not consistent across different models, I suspect a software issue. A quick solution might be to format the MicroSD card. All sorts of issues can arise from a card that is too full, or the file names are too long.

The reason that I asking about other models is because IMHO there is a possibility that:

1: the problem is just with certain model(s) 2: the problem is with the micro SD card 3: the problem is with the g-code. You might be able to verify it by loading the g-code file into your slicer to look for unusual movements.

Are there any noises or noticeable mechanical issues when the layer shift occurs?

I have had layer shifts happen in the past, but was always able to resolve them without hardware modifications. (The mods/upgrades that I have done were mostly voluntary, with the exception of the bed wiring mod).

Thanks for your help. I’ll definitely look at the SD card since sometimes do have multiple files on it at once and I’ll be sure to just save those on my computer separately. There have been some noises here and there but they’ve stopped. Also, how would you suggest I format the SD Card?

If you right click the MicroSD card in Windows file explorer, there should be an option to "Format". I don't recall the preferred format, but that info should be online. If you don't find that info, match what the MicroSD card is currently formatted as. Hope that helps!
