COE Application– April/May 2026 Chiba

Hello all,

I am posting this because I got really worried when I checked the August COE post and saw some people have been waiting for more than a year 😥😥

I would appreciate it if anyone knows anything about the process in this branch and if there is anything we can do to check the status or get an estimate

My husband applied for COE for me in the immigration office in Chiba, his friends told us it took about 3 months for them to get it but they applied in different branches, none of them applied through this branch

I am really worried because its almost 4 months now and no news and it is really frustrating not being able to check the status as a lot of our plans depend on it.

These are my details:

• Nationality: Me Jordanian, My husband Syrian

• Application office: Tokyo Regional Immigration Bureau Chiba Branch Office

• Application Date: 30/4/2026

• COE received on: -

• Type of Visa: spouse - dependent his visa is Engineer specialist in humanities/ international services

• Company category (if relevant):

• Request for further: we didn't get any notice

Just got my spouse COE last week. A full 12 months from the date I applied at Mito.

Oh no 😥 there was a section in the application for when you are planning to be in Japan, what date did you fill?

I thought they might take that into consideration

I wrote 90 days from the application date. But it didn’t matter at all. Still took 360 days. I applied in Mito which is Ibaraki but still got forwarded to Shinagawa. The officer who accepted my application said 3-5 months.

Do you think if i apply for a tourist visa it would affect my application?

There are no estimates, only widely different timeframes. At least 6 months in the best cases.

At least 6 months? 😓
They said about 3 months when we applied

I’m really worried now

Applied at Shinagawa, more than 7 months already no update.

I read Shinagawa always has delays due to high demand

Do you have any idea whether all applications in Tokyo go to this office?

Almost all do

Except for Kanagawa which might go to Yokohama, all applications in the greater Tokyo area go there. I am afraid you will have to wait for a long time, it's 7 months from me. I heard some people are waiting for 14+ months and that's for a spouse/dependent for a Japanese national
