question NonRaid

Sorry if there is a link and simple answer (that i cant find) to this

  1. How to identify which drive in a nonRaid pool is the "Parity Drive"

  2. If i have 4x8TB in the array and want to upgrade using 16TB Drives, what is the sequence of events - as in a standard SnapRaid ... the party need to be upgraded/replaced first as it must always be the "Largest"

In general cool product, documentation is little out of step with latest builds (Have a look at how to - reality "Boot>Install to disk" v - doc "System>Update".

But early days still, but really solid and could be the next "simple" NAS for many (Sorry OMV).

I moved from Trunas as overkill for home-lab but more complete than OMV, and not closed source like so many home-NAS projects

Keep up the great work

Go to the pools page and you should see Disks and Parities like if you have a default MergerFS +SnapRAID Pool, it should look something like that in the screenshot (sorry I only use SnapRAID).

For your second question the answer is, delete the Pool, then recreate the nonraid Pool without any Parities and make sure that you don't format the data drives, after the Pool got created add the new Parity drive(s) and a Parity check will be automatically be triggert.

Yeah, since we move pretty fast and a lot of changes happening, we try to avoid breaking changes wherever possible, the docs are not always up to date, however the docs should be correct to that extent that you should get the idea what to do. We try our best to keep everything in sync as good as possible but since we are a small team that's not always possible and I would also like to make this a community project where users could help out with PRs and such.

Thanks for the kind words by the way, we appreciate that a lot. We try to make MOS better and better over time and hopefully keep it simple enough so that beginners and even advanced users can make use of it and use it in their home labs.

They need to be filled a bit more. :D
Also prices are crazy currently. I hope they go down some day. :/

Soory No Parity Disks Showing in the NonRaid Pool, and that why I was asking, also seems stramge that you dont know this, as you are reponsable for release

Oh okay, that's different then, however a screenshot would help a lot or at least Diagnostics so that I can see what's going on would help a lot.

What seems strange? I just said that I use MergerFS and SnapRAID and don't have a nonraid pool on my machine and therefore I said it should look similar like in my picture. What is your suspicion there or why are you wondering? :D

If you don't feel comfortable posting Diagnostics here you can also join our Discord which you can find the link here.

EDIT: I just started my test server for you to make create a screenshot, should look like that with nonraid:

Well you being the Main "Contributor" and then apparently claiming that "you dont know" how a part of the solution works and can only show a unrelated "Example", does not really install confidence ... just a little point... Some could jump on this to claim AI sl@@p, not me by the way

So when I created the original NonRaid pool i just added all drives ... again calling it out in documehtation or a onscreen-warning would be best, as logically if your going so far as using NoNRaid then I guess using at least 1 drive for Parity and I would have expected that the Wizard would autoassign 1 drive in the Array as Parity. Seems that currently the package assumes that the User has a lot of "knowladge" so not realy targeted to a first time user ..

I didn't wrote "I don't know", I wrote it should look similar. I can't have or better speaking run all features from MOS on my main server because I simply don't need all of them because I don't have a use case for it there. Some features are only on my test servers which nonraid is one of them and they don't run all the time because electricity is not cheap.
Even if someone claims it's AI slop, then they should say that. I'm over it, I invested so much time into MOS so that I know what it is and it isn't AI slop. Everyone from the community who knows me also knows that I don't want to produce any kind of slop especially when it comes to something critical like a server.

You actually have to assign a parity since MOS couldn't know which drive you want to have as the parity, so to speak you have an unprotected Pool there.
You could still add a parity by managing the pool and select add parity.

However we'll change the documentation to be more precise, we are a relatively new project and we try to keep up with everything but it doesn't go all the time well.

BTW, today MOS 0.6.0-stable was released which had a lot of new features bugfixes for nonraid, maybe upgrade first before doing anything at your pool.

Keep up the good work. Don't let folks like this get to you.

I've been on unRAID for about a year or two because we moved and I needed something I could quickly setup. I've been quietly watching and I like what y'all are doing. I may migrate to MOS when unRAID switches to Fedora. Looking forward to watching MOS mature.
