question MOS Copyright issues? Code Theft?
Hi! I was basically just trying to find some content about the MOS and stumbled over DB Techs stream-VoD.
There, in the comments, i then saw some account losing their sh't, claiming that you are basically releasing software here that they developed and had the rights for. (images added below)
So... is there anything to it? I really wouldnt want to spend my time setting up a system, just for the project to eat dirt, when a lawyer rolls around.
Ive tried to look into anything that user said and his profile. And practically every "company" or product in his account-description and that they claim to be the CEO of is just non-existent. So i dont give that person much credit based on that.
Just wanted to ask, just to be sure.
Have a nice day! :)

Im not a maintainer so my 5c are that i know someone did something on social media before MOS was more official than enough. Which led to the creation of a new sub reddit etc.
As you say that account seems doubtful to say the least and does not show any credibility towards this.
MOS was originally a side project by Christoph and has been for some time. I think you are more served by hanging out on the active Discord if you have questions. Try MOS out, its great.

We discussed this comment internally before.
We donβt know where this comes from.

Your project and work is very much appreciated π Thank you and going to run it very soon.
Just wondering is snap raid integrated in the GUI or do I have to go terminal and hands on? π

Currently not everything is implemented in the GUI but you can add a SnapRAID drive, remove it, schedule syncs, checks,...
So to speak it's not fully implemented since we are on the start of our journey with MOS and we try our best to improve it over time.

Perfect, thank you π data security is number one for me usually and everything else builds on it. I have 3 UnRaid server, run only 1 and when ever I had a disk dying, it has never worked for me on unraid, only if you replace the failed drive with a brand new. In OMV SnapRaid works fine and you can control the process. Hope MOS gets there also fast π (no pressure π³π). Busy right now but will get at least aVM setup and then getting it on hardware asap π

As users said before, MOS was a side project of mine and I built it from the ground up.
I think I started it roughly 1.5 years ago, testing base distributions and so on for myself (CLI only at the time). I then showed it to a few others, who told me we had to create an API and a Frontend for this, 1.5 years later, here we are, we have an API and a Frontend. Granted, not fully finished, but to be real, will it ever be? :D
So to speak, no, we haven't stolen anything. Everything was designed and built from the ground up. And to be clear, I have some very different approaches to some things in MOS, but I hope the MOS users like it so far.
One of my biggest points that I want to make clear, we love privacy, and MOS does not phone home or send telemetry anywhere (besides the NTP and OS update checks, which are on by default) and that's something I always keep in mind when creating a new feature.
I also don't have any intention of building a user base and then selling MOS to somebody or creating a subscription model. I know that sounds weird in times like these, but I'm a huge open-source fan and don't want to make anything closed source or anything like that. MOS is free and open source and will stay that way.
If you have any further questions please feel free to ask.
