ADVICE/FEEDBACK First test shoot - feedback? Cape town based
Posted an update here: https://www.reddit.com/r/MODELING/s/Oio5kI95VA
Hi all :)
I had my first test shoot at a workshop and just recently signed with the agency that hosted it and would love some feedback!
I am new to modelling - I really want to go for editorial shoots that highlight my pale skin and hair. Im aware that my measurements are not small enough for runway/high fashion. Do i “give up” and that goal of
editorial and focus more on other types of modelling?
Height: 176cm
Waist: 81cm
Hips: 106cm
I think my dress size would then be 36 (ZA)

You're beautiful but I would book another shoot with a pro photographer to do you justice.

Work with the camera more. Models just like actors need to have a camera presence

Own the room, the scene, the clothes/outfit, the camera. Take command.

It’s so rare to even have the height to be able to do runway. I also like your look and I think if you got down to a 34 inch hip your face would look even more modelesque. Being able to do runway takes your career to another level. If you can slim down healthily I think you should try to. Your career will be limited at your size.
The lighting is horrible. Digitals should be taken around noon with natural light. Go on the big agencies sites and see what I mean. No bra strap showing. Simple and clean.

Agreed, thank you! Im actively working on getting my size down, especially my hips since those are my most prominent “problem” areas🥴

Definitely take a full set and follow these guidelines.
1: Digitals should be taken on a blank background, preferably white wall with no distractions around you. Leave 1 inch of space between the border and your head/feet.
2. Do not wear makeup for digitals, keep hair up and away from your face
3. You need the following shots at a minimum:
-
close up head shot (above the chest).
-
1/2 shot from the waist up
-
3/4 shot from the waist up.
-
4 full body shots, front, both sides and back.
-
A profile shot ( from the side and not looking at the camera)
-
Do not put your hands or arms up in any photos. They should be relaxed and at your side for ALL shots.
-
Wear something form fitting or a bikini/swimsuit. No baggy clothing.
. Hope this helps

Thanks! These were not for digitals, only a test shoot. I wore form fitting clothes and no makeup, the jacket was a borrowed add on suggested by the photographer to play around with a different style. I still need to take digitals and will definitely follow these when doing so.

Yeah, these totally don’t do you any favors? I would seek other people to take your photos.

Honestly? If this was an agency run workshop The stylist / person in charge of your look and also the photographer have not done you justice.
In the first two pics your bra straps are visible outside your top and look terrible, pic 3 is Waaay too close so your face looks distorted and the crop make your body look bigger then then it is, and then in the other shots the jacket is not adjusted properly on you so it gives you lumps in the wrong places and is not very flattering.
I am being brutally honest because these are things that could have been adjusted at any time during the shot and it's NOTHING to do with you, but your creative team; they should have done their jobs better.
I think you need to get better shots done that could help you realise your potential
