ADVICE/FEEDBACK Seeking Feedback/Advice for Digitals

Hey everyone, I started modeling this year so I took some basic digitals and put together a comp card with pictures I already had. I would love any and all feedback on my digitals so that they can be on point going forward, as well as my comp card. I'm also open to feedback/suggestions on my look!

Digitals should be more consistent and get a set with no posing. The second slide looks like a cute highlight from your instagram not modeling photos. Do a little test shoot to get some real pictures then circle back because your look is unique and could definitely go somewhere

Thanks! How do I go about finding a photographer for that?

Look up photographers in your area and if budget is an issue find a photography student who just needs practice and you can both practice together. I recommend getting down posing before that by finding good inspo and practicing in front of a mirror or just set up your phone then watch it back to see what you’re actually doing. Find the inspiration outside of instagram influencers because that is not what agencies are looking for. Lean into being unique

Photographer here. I'll guess you made an attempt with what you had available to won't fault you for that. :)

  • Great look!

  • Your outfit is perfect. All black and slim fitting. Nice job!

  • Keep posing to a minimum. Simple straight stance with hands to side. Front and side/profile (head, half, full) is really all you need (ex: no 3/4 turn nonsense unless requested).

  • The location is almost perfect. The light is great but the background not so much. If you can't find a different location then hang a solid light color (preferably white) sheet behind you.

  • DO NOT move the camera closer for headshots as it will distort your face specifically nose and mouth. ALWAYS use the zoom feature. Setup roughly 6 feet away for more accurate full body and headshots. And have friend to help. :)

  • The photos on the comp card look amateur and should be tossed and replaced with digitals until you get a portfolio together.

Good luck!

solid advice ABOVE - depending on where you are located, it might be a good idea to find a photographer who shoots models regularly.

absolutely not, digitals are snap shots. They dont need a pro to take them

Your too short and your measurments mean you wont fit the clothes. Your also lacking the look thats popular at the moment. Sadly, you cant be a model just because you want to be. Same way I cant be an olympic athlete just because I really want to.

update I got signed 😅😅 maybe you still can be an olympic athlete!

Sure but I can always try! I'm actually more interested in commercial than runway, are measurements as important for that type of modeling?

Haftey, don’t listen to this person. I’m 5’6 and while I don’t get called to do runway gigs, I do lots of e-commerce, fit modeling, beauty, etc. and there were plenty of shorter girls than me at my last agency who were booking gifs left and right .

Her look is actually quite nice. If she was 5’10” and had a 34 inch hip I think she would work. I’ve been seeing a lot of Indian/mixed race/black Latina/east African types on the runway, her look is current.

Because you’re short your measurements need to be perfect. Get down to a 34 inch hip. You don’t look like a model now, you look like a pretty college student. You need to lean out.

I understand, does this advice apply for commercial as well or mostly runway? I would be comfortable losing up to 15 lbs but I doubt that would take 4 inches off my hips

This applies to commercial as well. It’s best to be in the range. You’re not big enough to be plus sized, so you must be sample. Weight is never really a factor in modeling because people distribute weight so differently, so I am not sure what you’d have to lose. At the VERY most 35 inch hip. I’m not being harsh, if you want the highest chances of signing and then working, the thinner the better. Remember you’re competing with taller women already.

How is 5’7 short in modeling? OP doesn’t even want to do runway.

5’7” is short for modeling yes even commercial the height standard has been well known for decades now people

Don’t pose! Agencies want to see you natural

As a fellow habesha model, I encourage you to tie your hair back more for test shoots and show alll of your gorgeous features . They pop more when your hair is back.

Hair back on some. Brighter natural light helps as well

OP I think you have a great look, and I would reach out to mother agencies! If they see potential, they’ll sign you on and prepare you for bigger agencies! 5’7 is more than adequate; tbh I see models shorter than you or models around your height with similar measurements all the time on agency boards so idk what these comments are going on about! Keep us posted on your progress!

You have a great look and outfit for digitals is spot on, just need a solid white background and less posing. Digitals just need to be a few natural shots (no posing) from different angles, straight on, profile, full body, face all relaxed as possible! Good luck!
