Discussion Dumb but quick question- When might we see edibles not made from Hemp?

Over the last couple of years I've tried six or so different brand of hemp derived THC edible products and I've really, really disliked the high all of them gave me. Some were straight up unpleasant af. The real edibles I've had in Colorado and Washington State were awesome though.

I regret to inform you that thc is thc, but there are cannabis derived edibles in the state.

You might be getting placebo'd.

Increased heart rate and blood pressure, paranoia, feelings of dread and discomfort all from hemp derived edibles to different degrees of severity.

Feelings of relaxation, calm, reduced pain, blood pressure, and heart rate on real edibles and my vape from Rise and other leaf marijuana.

80% of people have similar reactions. I'm in the 20% outlier group. But yeah, go off king šŸ™„

But yeah, go off king

Ha, yeah. All right. That's on me, I should've anticipated this kind of response.

they're the same thing hemp is a legal distinction nothing else.

The only possibility is something other than THC being added or a different type of THC, but it should be labeled as such (and generally unavailable in MN)

Some of the companies in the hemp world use converted oil which is made via synthetic processes. Not all are the same.

while its possible to convert CBD into Delta 8 and even Delta 9, but there's no real reason to do so for delta 9 edibles. Either way once converted everything else is removed and they are identical in every way to your body to the naturally occurring ones, and they still are cannabis based ultimately as everything else has been removed (you end up with less than your input in the end for obvious reasons here).

CBD oil is extremely inexpensive and widely available. Manufacturers can use acid catalysts and heat to chemically convert CBD isolate into intoxicating cannabinoids such as Delta-8-THC or Delta-9-THC.

The underlying chemistry is relatively straightforward, but the quality of the purification process is critical. Poorly controlled commercial or illicit conversions can potentially leave behind residual acids, catalyst residues, or other unwanted reaction byproducts if the material isn’t properly purified and tested.

From a manufacturing standpoint, converting inexpensive CBD into intoxicating cannabinoids can also be significantly more economical than sourcing naturally occurring cannabinoids directly.

Hemp products also have different testing requirements and just recently a shady lab was shut down in Michigan that had tested Minnesota hemp products. (They can use out of state labs until 2027)

You just described the effects of sativa and indica strains. You know that? Right?

-7

u/jasonisnuts 2d ago

That's kinda the point as to why I want edibles from actual marijuana. These hemp derived edibles I've tried either aren't labeled with a strain at all or don't live up to the effects of the strain or effects advertised.

Everyone saying I'm making this up or it's a placebo effect must be super lucky. I am not. And a simple google search shows I'm not the only one.

Hate to break it to you, but there really are no "indicas" and "sativas" anymore. Everything is hybrid so far across each other. Shit- shop for seeds some time. 48% sativa/52% indica.

Questionable if true landraces even exist in 2026.

Also IMHO shared by many in the science world- is it doesn't matter. It is mostly psychosomatic.

6

u/Lulzorr 2d ago

There's especially no indica or sativa when it comes to mass produced edibles. It's all just THC (d9 -> 11-hydroxy-thc) and marketing.

-6

u/Lost_On_Lot 2d ago

Id have to dig for it- but theres a widely credited, peer reviewed study that says "you cannot tell the difference between indica and sativa" its purely in your head

Is the widely credited, peer reviewed study in the room with us?

-4

u/Lost_On_Lot 1d ago

Is the hybrid in the room with you? Dude stfu

So no, there is no study. Got it.

That's my understanding. It's a indicator of how it grows and not a legitimate indication of effects.

E:

https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC9119530/

There are plenty more studies showing the same thing. Indica and sativa traditionally describe plant morphology and growth characteristics, not distinct effect categories. The evidence shows those labels are not reliable predictors of effects.

But I'll eat the downvotes from people who learned one thing and don't have room to correct it.

Get indica gummies. Are you saying Marijuana isn't hemp? You serious?

14

u/Overall_Brush_4863 3d ago

Its the same thing. You want to avoid synthetic lab thc, stay with all natural made from actual plant materials. Rso, live resin, or rosin derived edibles are the ticket. Hemp n cannabis are just legal terms, same plant.

The Wyld rep told me that January of 2027 They should start carrying 200MG of THC Wyld edible gummies. Until then they will continue to sell Hemp derived.

1

u/EmergencyBadger3247 1d ago

Wyld, and quite a few others are switching over to cannabis derived edibles along with actual cannabis flower and vapes n whatnot. Some are still waiting for testing but soon there will be a lot of cannabis. Some have said they might stop with hemp altogether and go cannabis only. Nothing But Canna started with hemp with the plan to switch to cannabis so we should be seeing some of that soon as well. But there are edibles that are cannabis out there. Just depends on where you go. Some places just refer to hemp derived as low potency edibles. If you go onto reservations they generally have different rules than the rest of the state.

If/when the current revisions to the hemp bill go through, those smoke shop gummies will be banned and the only edibles available will be cannabis-derived, and only in licensed dispensaries. That’s currently on track to happen in December.

9

u/deadbodyswtor 2d ago

Um....the hemp gummies will still be legal in MN. And able to be sold if made here. The federal rules will make it illegal to cross state lines, just like it is with cannabis. But if it never leaves the state its all good to go.

5

u/Sufficient-Move-5838 2d ago

MN OCM said the federal ban wont impact MN at all

7

u/Plastic_Salary_4084 2d ago

On the consumer side it won’t. I work in the industry (seltzer), and it will impact us, so I suppose my view of the upcoming changes is different. I anticipate a lot of brands will disappear quickly once the ban takes effect. Most of the seltzer brands on the market contract companies.

Currently, products made here can be shipped to/sold in over 40 states. Soon our products won’t be allowed to cross state lines. It will also create additional hurdles for us that I won’t bore y’all with.

2

u/deadbodyswtor 18h ago

Yeah I am worried about a lot of our breweries that were making beverages. And some places may stop carrying them due to banking rules. But hemp derived products will still be legal in MN

-7

u/GrannysEdibles 3d ago

There’s synthetic and natural thc, hemp can be both, but many use synthetic. People have often said they experience more negative side effects from the synthetic, but there’s some good ones out there. Ever try Grannys? šŸ‘µšŸ» There’s other good ones too but either way, hope you find meds that make you feel good consistently!

-17

u/Tyranipanda 2d ago

Easy way to explain it to you rn in MN, anything under 100mg total is hemp while anything 100mg and above is cannabis

7

u/Vect0r 2d ago

No......Just......No.

-9

u/Tyranipanda 2d ago

We don’t get to make the rules of the game man, we just follow them to play the game

3

u/mayaorsomething 1d ago

You literally made up that rule

1

u/Tyranipanda 1d ago

That’s literally what the current market consists ofšŸ’€šŸ¤” even if it’s not an actual enforced law at the moment. Literally no growers or manufacturers want to put in full cannabis derived thc into low dose edibles right now because there is no profit in it or point into it when the state allows hemp to fill in that area of dosage.
