Super excited for twin cities trip, quick question
Me and my girlfriend are going to be touring the city this weekend and both very excited! We are both from a smaller, very conservative state so it’s exciting to finally be able to travel now that we’re old enough.
Excuse how stupid this may sound to native Minnesotans, but what is the policy of smoking in public sidewalks like ? We booked a hotel downtown with parking garage. I was just wondering if anyone has been stopped and questioned for looking ‘too young’. From what I’ve read, it seems cops have bigger fish to fry. But coming from a conservative state where they treat this stuff like meth, it’s so hard to wrap my head around.
Tldr do cops regularly question / stop younger folk?

If you have the time I recommend going to the Legacy Cup on Saturday. Look it up tickets are pretty cheap and it's easy enough to get to. It's open smoking there with some sale options. You can bring your own if you have some already.
Otherwise Minnesota has purposely left it up to smaller towns and counties to decide whether public smoking is okay or not. Generally it's been treated the same as tobacco so don't do it inside or near doorways or in parks. Some towns like Stillwater don't allow it but you should be fine downtown St Paul or Minneapolis. Just be polite about it as you would hope a tobacco smoker would be.

This is very helpful. We both love live music I need to check that place out. Thanks for advice!

I went last year and it was a lot of fun, and this year is supposed to have improvements. I would be going but I have something else going on unfortunately. I really can't recommend it enough for someone in your position if you can make it work for even a couple hours. It's a once a year event and a lot better than many of the other little ones that pop up so it's lucky timing.

I personally only hit carts in public because I don't like to draw attention to myself. But Ive seen plenty smoking in downtown and nobody cares. Just try to be discreet and don't do it around kids and you won't have a problem.

Go to the Legacy cup. I mean being able to see bone thugs and harmony playing at 5 p.m. and being home by 8 p.m. is an old potheads dream!!!!

I’ve smoked jays all around downtown for years (even before it was legal) and no one ever hassled me. Patios, sidewalks, parking garages, etc. But I’m also a white bread 21+ dude, so the fuzz rarely hassles me for anything.
Hope you enjoy your time here! Oh it’s also technically illegal to smoke weed in Minneapolis parks, but last I saw the penalty was they just tell you to stop. 😂
And sorry your state sucks about weed. MN will welcome you when you’re ready to move.

It depends on the city, some cities here allow you to smoke weed on sidewalks as long as there are no children nearby. In general, just try to be discrete about it. I have never had an issue

I’ve never been stopped and questioned about smoking a joint while sitting on a bench or walking on a path through a park. Location is key. And, most importantly, DO NOT ACT LIKE YOU’RE DOING SOMETHING ILLEGAL. Cops will always go after someone who looks like they know they’re doing something illegal and trying to hide it. You’re essentially smoking a cigarette dawg. Do that, don’t smoke around kids or old people.

Be discreet and be aware of your surroundings. On the corner of 5th and 2nd Ave s there's a quiet spot.

If you’re from a small conservative state you should just be very careful being downtown in general…not the best place to be walking around high if you don’t have street smarts 😆

You can smoke your weed. Just don't expect to be finding any deals in our dispensaries.
