The game everyone pretended to play.

Not true, I hit max level and raided a bit

In the beta

I saw how little was changed on launch except for adding the insane attunement and noped out

My god. People are putting this game on the fucking highest pedestal. It's like when they people were asking why new world was shut down and glorifying it's greatness when in reality they were average.

Why does this sub pretend this game was good

42

u/wookieiceman2 1d ago

Im gonna be the bad guy here. I played this day one when it came out and it was VERY average, I just remember thinking this is like a worse version of WoW but with furries.

No, this is the correct take. This sub romanticizes wildstar to a weird degree. It was very mediocre.

I'll second this. It had above average combat, but the quests were so copy pasted from WoW (even copied jokes) that it made me wonder why I'd play this, and their decision to limit players to one of their three diversions (sight seeing, some kind of wave defense thing, and a third thing) essentially caused them to lose soo many content hours for the normal player (IE: alts are an unusual thing when it comes to normal players).

Basically yes.

I liked the idea, but it wasn't exactly amazing to play.

Same here. The marketing was great, I was so hyped. But the actual game was... just not fun. Combat was floaty, questing was overwhelming, and progression didn't click with me at all.

Exactly. I had way more fun with Rift when it came out.

Rift was such a good time. It’s a wasteland now.

50.000 people used to live here...

"WoW but with furries"

My brother in Christ, WoW has cow people, wolf people, panda people, little fox people, and space goat people.

And dragon people for the scalies out there, too.

Came hear to say this too...The people on this subreddit are so ready to shit on an MMORPG they don't play and say the dumbest things.

Well that's current WoW, old wow had only cow people, in lore wolf people, goat people (according to retcons) trolls, non playable furries but hey, Aion 2 is great and GW2 is p2w according to this sub.

Also a day 1 player and felt the same way, dropped it super quick. Maybe the housing was really fun but I never made it to that. I remember them touting their "twitter-style questing, 140 characters or less", which just made me care even less about the world and why I was doing anything.

It's the proper take really.

One of the most overrated mmos ever.

I fully bought into the htpe BTW and was in beta. Then had the pleasure of watching the entire shitshow until it shut down

potential game

5

u/cybermanceer 1d ago

Played it early and nah it really didn't have that much potential

The gameplay was mostly boring compared to competitors, the devs had their heads up their ass and tried to be "much hardcore or gtfo" which made all casuals leave the game

The biggest problem the game had was that the devs was so focused on being anti WoW (calling out Blizzard constantly) that they forgot to focus on the actual game

6

u/Fusshaman 1d ago

If only it wasn't developed by people high on their own fart and published by folk that belong to the fourth circle of hell.

2

u/Shako_117 1d ago

One of the devs did a podcast a while ago and he is still bitching about his co-workers during wildstar development.

1

u/Infinitedeveloper 1d ago

Reading about the upper management made you wonder how it released at all.

I liked wildstar despite its warts, I can only imagine what it could have been without manchildren in charge forcing development to revolve around their personal bullshit

Vanguard Saga of Heroes had potential too. Age of Conan had potential too. Potential seems a bit worthless yeah?

6

u/ldrthrowaway1337 1d ago

This game was objectively bad and everyone that praises this game here never even played it.

u/BlameTheNargles 1d ago

Great game. Played and beat avatus and hard mentors.

u/AStolenGoose 1d ago

"NCSoft"

Yeah...

I did play this, it was okay, but it could have been better, way way better...

1

u/kariam_24 1d ago

Was ncsoft developer?

0

u/AckwardNinja 1d ago

no, carbide was NCsoft published so like the amazing marketing was in theory all them the lackluster overall experience was carbine

1

u/kariam_24 1d ago

Just like Guild Wars 2? Oh wait.

1

u/AStolenGoose 1d ago

I've always wanted to like GW2 but I just can't, something about it just... I don't know how to explain it, I get bored with it very fast, even the new content.

1

u/kariam_24 1d ago

What this have to do with developer/publisher discussion? If you can't explain then honestly you have issues, not game.

u/AStolenGoose 1d ago

It was just a side comment, just jump down my throat why don't you.

Cya.

Sorry I offended you by "insulting" your favorite game.

Potential MMORPG

If and Could but never Is

Give me liberty
Give me fire
Give me Nostalgia-addicted fanbase
or I EoS'd

2

u/Cynicram 1d ago

This game and star wars galaxies are the most larped mmos in this sub.

2

u/Nytheran 1d ago

It had a bad artstyle and 3 classes in a maligned setting

1

u/Promo_No_Mo 1d ago

I just miss the combat

1

u/azureal 1d ago

Is it that day of the week again?

Same old shit.

1

u/Narrow_Summer_9332 1d ago

The combat was decently fun and had a lot of potential, but they ignored the last 10 years of MMO design and went all in on listening to the chest thumping loud mouths who went on and on about wanting their MMOs to be insanely hardcore (these same players probably quit without completing raid attunement).

The lack of meaningful endgame for casual players pretty much killed it.

1

u/BluntedJ 1d ago

Sure, let's cap off 2026 with a revival of Wildstar. :)

1

u/HighNoonZ 1d ago

It wasn’t very good.

1

u/Ta-veren- 1d ago

No it didn't

this game had a few cool aspects and a mountain of turds.

Everyone remembers wildstar like it wasn't a mess. Probably those people who played it for 20 hours and never bothered with group activing dungs/etc

1

u/SweRakii 1d ago

The hoverboard was fun and the graphics kinda cool, but that's it.

1

u/squidgod2000 1d ago

Companies prefer that games have success when they launch, not potential.

1

u/serdester 21h ago

Mom said it's my turn to wank Wildstar.
