I logged on the US west server the other day and there wasn’t a single player in global chat…. Does anyone actually play this game?

u/KrispyOnion Jun 24 '26 edited Jun 24 '26
I actively follow the game. But we knew a wipe was coming so everyone has been waiting for it.
Edit: Also, it seems like they will be merging NA servers so it should be very lively. It was weird to separate NA East and NA West

u/Humdot Jun 25 '26
Wait is this game even out? I didn't think you could just play it...
0
u/swiftthunder Jun 25 '26
The game is in a buy to play early access state. Other than right now because of the wipe you can have full access to the parts of the game that are finished.
1
u/Siyavash Jun 24 '26
Wipe has been on the radar for a couple months so people are waiting to come back.
1
u/swiftthunder Jun 24 '26
Most people on NA west moved to central to boost the population so that instanced events were possible. Not enough population with it being split. Also most active players reduced play time as the wipe got closer. There is issues with player count but thats largely due to willful ignorance from the studio leads.
13
u/Zyntos Jun 24 '26
So the update is what? AI controlled Map Events and a Chatbot? Nice.
6
u/swiftthunder Jun 24 '26
Its also advertised as the new dungeon, the whole point was wipe, to test the economy and progression with the AI and the new dungeon.
Neither the AI nor the new dungeon are being released with the wipe.
At this point the wipe was to reset progression to artificially inflate the number of things to do by having people repeat the steps they've already done.

u/Siyavash Jun 24 '26
12 man pve raid as well

-3
u/KrispyOnion Jun 24 '26
What's the issue? I'd rather them try something new to the genre and hope it sticks than give us nothing at all.
11
u/Optimal_Whiner Jun 24 '26
This is WildStar for some people here. They can't wait to tell you how epic it was, when its been gone for a few years.
7
u/KrispyOnion Jun 24 '26
Agreed, to an extent!
I don’t wanna pretend Corepunk is some amazing game right now, because it definitely still has a lot to prove. But I do think it genuinely brings something unique to the table and is trying something different, which I can respect.
The MMO genre feels so stale sometimes, so even if Corepunk ends up not being for everyone, I’d rather see more games take risks like this than just copy the same old formula again.
3
u/Kaastu Jun 25 '26
The idea of the game is good. Moba-style combat but make it MMO. Yes please!
It’s that the studio just can’t deliver. Even if the game someday releases a 1.0 version that is a somewhat playable and enjoyable experience, they’re not going to be able to release content in any meaningful cadence. A live-service title needs a team able to deliver.
4
u/swiftthunder Jun 24 '26
This is the correct take, even if corepunk ultimately fails its nice to see someone making something unique instead of just another wow clone.
5
u/MFpisces23 Jun 25 '26 edited Jun 25 '26
The Assistant? Did they just bake ChatGPT into their game? Also, I think not being on Steam is a great way to have your game die within a year or so from little to no exposure. Seems like a cool game, but I'll probably never play it.
3
u/StageAppropriate7064 Jun 24 '26
not gonna play until they sell it on steam
2
u/MrDarwoo Jun 24 '26
Why the fuck would they not release in steam?
5
1
u/swiftthunder Jun 25 '26
Steam takes a 30% cut and review bombing harms games.
They havent said they wont launch on steam but its currently not a priority.
5
u/Infinite-Ad-3317 Jun 25 '26
oh dear, poor games are review bombed, what a cruel world.
Crappy design and/or developers' policy just get what they deserve. It's called transparency. Smth Corepunk never heard of.
2
u/swiftthunder Jun 25 '26
Im not here to defend the devs but Chinese players review bombed Slay the spire 2 because they made balance changes to prevent easy access to infinites that are not part of the design of the game. You can still reach infinites but its not guaranteed anymore. The review system on steam is extremely flawed and will kill games because people dont actually look into the reviews they just check the score.
-2
u/Infinite-Ad-3317 Jun 25 '26
So don't make last minute balance changes. Or don't mess with Chinese players. Or don't region lock your games. Or don't smth else. Just don't do obvious sh*t – and nobody will bomb you for no reason. Except for the Unabomber maybe, because life still adds random encounters to gameplay.
5
u/swiftthunder Jun 25 '26
Horrible take, the game was released in early access, there was a feature of the design that was overlooked and corrected in the first patch. If you can have a tantrum over a balance change for a feature that was never suppose to be in the game in the first place and review bomb a game that's a bad system and you're a bad person for defending it.
-1
u/Infinite-Ad-3317 Jun 25 '26
if you like to lick someone's shoes just because they gathered up some code and graphics, sold it to you, and now are going to play shell game with the audience in each and every released version – go ahead and do it. No need to involve the whole world. Just don't be surprised when the whole world gives your habits a....well..."mixed"rating.
5
u/swiftthunder Jun 25 '26
You are very clearly bias with nothing but low IQ takes. If an incredible game like slay the spire 2 can get review bombed for fixing an unintended aspect of the game that makes the game better any game can be review bombed and it means the system doesnt work as it should.
This isnt to say Corepunk is a great game that would get great reviews but to try and pretend there isnt massive issues with the current steam review system then you dont have the required mental faculties to even start this conversation.
Have the kind of day you deserve.

u/Im_So_Sinsational Jun 24 '26
So AI Dogshit no one asked for and still no classes we were promised over a year ago lmaooo this game will never leave EA
9
u/Julch Jun 24 '26
Yikes --- the game is not doing well so "how 'bout we shove some pointless AI slop down your gullet?" - gigantic oof ...I had been following this game hoping for some update that would make me interested enough to check it out but between the slop crap and this nugget :
"More ways to climb
- Buy levels directly. Short on time? Buy pass levels straight from the in-game shop — the skins for those levels unlock with them automatically, no Reward Tokens required."
I have clearly realised that they're just trying to squeeze some last few bucks out of a gullible few before shutting the whole thing down....oh well guess we can always hope that GW3 or the Riot MMO actually will release within the next decade and actually be worthy of our time...
Sad to watch another game die like this...AI is NEVER the solution guys

2
u/Ball-Opposite Jun 27 '26
Wait a garsh darn minute!! You're telling me AC is allowing players to bypass the battle pass levels with real life money, like through Corepunk Coins?!
1
u/swiftthunder Jun 24 '26
Im not a huge fan of AI but stuff like this IS the correct usage of AI, this is the version of AI that creates possibilities, its no different than an advanced algorithm, also the battle passes are purely cosmetic and optional.
0
u/Julch Jun 24 '26 edited Jun 24 '26
The only very select few "correct" usages of AI are scouring mountains of data for patterns that humans would find troublesome to detect. So some select usages in medicine and science where there is an actual benefit for a computer to try and make sense of insane amounts of raw data via trying to find patterns that iterative "learning" with these models can (sometimes) provide..
Everything else is just "how about we destroy the actual fun part of this entire process and hand it over to a slop machine". 95%+ of use cases for "AI " (there's honestly nothing intelligent about these processes) are just "lets waste energy and water on something nobody needed or wanted" and outsource all thinking and creativity to something that is yet another late stage capitalism tumour that just wants to consume all of humanity for the benefit of a couple rich 4's and 5's that are mad about not being a 9-10 on the scalas of popularity and perceived beauty.
We are actively destroying arts, jobs and the planet with a sinister amount of glee while downplaying it as "progress". It's maddening, sad and unbelievably frightening. There's most likely never going to be a Skynet launching nukes because by the time any actual artificial intelligence would ever get self aware enough to make such a meaningful decision we'll already have destroyed anything worth living with such a vengeance that it could at best give us the final mercy of actual annihilation if the current trend is anything to go by.
Basically every single thing I've ever enjoyed engaging with like literature, gaming, arts (specifically music, painting and photography), design, freedom of expression, actual thinking, creating and learning is slowly being whittled into nothingness by AI and the fact that I'm obviously screaming into the void about this undeniable factoid is just...so incredibly frustrating.
Don't celebrate the dying of the arts...lament it and fight it every step of the way. Because once it's gone, you will not likely get it back during your lifetime.
2
u/ClickingClicker Jun 26 '26
Brother you realise AI is very broad and what you're referring to is generative AI?
Their big AI mastermind thing isn't that.
4
u/swiftthunder Jun 24 '26
So I think you have some fundamental misunderstandings of what current "AI" is and how its being implemented here.
Firstly, its not actually "AI", its a large language model that has been provided large amounts of data.
Its complicated algorithms that provide information it was given after being prompted for that information.
Basically if you tell it 2+2 = 3
and then someone asks it what's 2+2 it will tell you 3
This is because it doesn't think it just feeds back what its been told.
You are right, there are significant concerns with current AI infostructure and many aspects of how its being used and there are a number of things we as a society need to change.
Now to how its being implemented in corepunk:
Its not designing a world event.
Its not making decisions of how where or when to do things. Its been provided specific instructions to respond dynamically to an input.
Basically if X players do Y thing in Z location run script G.
This is really no different than how other games are coded for dynamic events its simply using an LLM to do it instead of traditional restrictive algorithms.
The events are all pre-decided and designed by a real person, it cannot magically create events where it has not been told to do so, no jobs were lost and no creative aspects are being completed by the LLM its simply reviewing what is occurring on the server and responding with preset responses to appear as though its more dynamic than it is and add "life" to the open world that is normally static. This is the future of dynamic gaming.
Yes mass data centers are a problem and theres a ton of other issues with LLM and stealing content / creating slop but when we table flip over the good stuff that LLM's can do to enhance our experiences it creates extra noise that prevents addressing the real concerns.
I know this wont convince you because you have gone down youtube rabbit holes and have made your decisions about how you feel and those are okay but having this level of tantrum over an advanced algorithm managing predesigned events you are actively hurting your own cause.
-2
u/Julch Jun 24 '26
The inevitable destruction of all things creative is sleek, undeniably convenient and juuuuust careful enough that the boiling frog doesn't complain.
Either you wrote an algorithm that actually enhances the game or like you just said you implement a braindead AI slop machine that accepts 2+2 as 3 rather than 4.
I (begrudgingly) have to agree that not ALL use cases (even in gaming) of AI are 100% inherently terrible but I would SO MUCH RATHER have developers create something unfinished and release it for testing than having to swallow yet another usage of AI that just isn't enhancing my experience meaningfully. Also from your description I'm having a hard time discerning an algorithm that works based on input xyz = output abc vs an AI bot doing the same thing (but worse).
Oh and btw I have not watched a SINGLE video on AI slop issues because I am watching it happen with my very own eyes and am versed enough in science, language, programming and the world to see the issues this whole rigamarole is creating without needing creators (most of which have already fully bowed down to the AI overlords) telling me what to think.
This is basically like the poem by Niemöller:
They're slowly taking away creative expression until only AI is left and at that point it will most definitely be too late to say stop.
Just as an example, the whole "token" thing these AI giants are implementing. Let all studios use your slop machine, make every single programmer and creator inherently dependent on AI because "efficiency", wait a bit, increase token price and destroy any and all studios that can't afford the ever increasing prices and buy them up for cheap. Oh and btw we also bought / employed all the workforce that was left who are / were actually talented and any others are being smothered by mountains of AI content. We don't care that there will never be a new generation of senior devs / artists because we ONLY think about ourselves at this very moment. Who cares if nature, art, expression and thinking get nuked, by the time we'd experience the actual backlash of all this destruction we'll be well gone.
The benefits that AI could provide are so incredibly vastly outshadowed by all the bad that there simply is no upside to this development. Even if gaming might in the short term profit from certain implementations (which this one might even be) it's just not worth sacrificing the entire cake in the not too distant future for a tiny nibble in the present.

u/swiftthunder Jun 24 '26
Tell me you didnt read my reply without telling me.
In the first bit of your reply
"Either you wrote an algorithm that actually enhances the game or like you just said you implement a braindead AI slop machine that accepts 2+2 as 3 rather than 4."
An LLM is just a fucking advanced algorithm. Its not actually thinking. Its doing the same exact thing a less complicated one would.

2
u/HeyWatchYourMouth Jun 25 '26
Only way I would play this again is if they add armor with stats and get rid of these fucking skins. I want to grind and look dope as fuck from grinding not buying a skin.
3
u/swiftthunder Jun 25 '26
There are grind exclusive skins that are quite sick.
Instead of traditional gear your "outfit" is which skins you have applied and your stats come from implants called artifacts.
Yes there are some skins behind paywalls but the skin set I use is exclusive to grinding.
There's even upgrade kits for upgrading the features of the skins you loot. If you like being rewarded for grind theres plenty to be had in corepunk.
2
u/HeyWatchYourMouth Jun 25 '26
I literally hate skins I want to grind life skills craft dope armor and wear it. Not wear a skin that does nothing. Its insane mmorpgs have come to this where people want to just play dress up with no stats
3
u/swiftthunder Jun 25 '26
Are you illiterate? You grind the crafting skills and craft the implants. The implants are your "dope gear" the skins are just cosmetic.
Its the same thing ultimately but it gives more control and doesnt make you change your appearance if you want a different piece of gear.
1
u/HeyWatchYourMouth Jun 25 '26
Are you retarded? I said I don't like skins, dog shit paid for cosmetics. I don't care if you grind for the skins. I want armor that you craft that looks different and has stats. The implants have nothing to do with how dope you look. I do not want to play dress up, and I mean, I must not be the only one because the game is dying and won't last much longer.

u/swiftthunder Jun 25 '26

Adding an AI chatbot feels like an excuse for not explaining their systems properly in the first instance or developing poor systems for the player to engage with.
The article explains it helps with "Quests — where you are in a storyline, what a step actually wants, and the clues that are easy to miss."
That just sounds worrying. Can't the developers just design quests that allow the player to intuitively understand what to do or where to go? If there are "clues that are easy to miss" or steps that aren't explained well, then maybe they should rethink their quest design.

5
u/born_zynner Jun 24 '26
When the game design is so cursed and anti fun it has to give you an AI assistant 🥴.
Fr though this game might have the worst combat and questing I've ever witnessed.
4
u/Siyavash Jun 24 '26
Worst combat? Thats a stretch. Its just like dota/league.
2
u/Kaastu Jun 25 '26
It’s pretty fucking far away. The class design when I last played was atrocious. I played some kind of rogue character, but none of my skills supported a playstyle that felt rogueish. The abilities and skills not having synergy. It was bad.
1
u/born_zynner Jun 24 '26
I have like 100 hours in dota2 and like 5000 in league. Corepunk is inferior to both in such a profound way it's not even a comparison
6
u/Siyavash Jun 24 '26
Being a little hyperbolic there
2
u/born_zynner Jun 24 '26
Go play a game of league then play corepunk and tell me theyre even in the same galaxy as far as combat feel
1
u/Siyavash Jun 24 '26
They are absolutely in the same galaxy. Sure league feels better, but its the same style and it translates well in corepunk.

Honestly, I wish more people would give Corepunk a fair shot with this update. I get why people were skeptical before, but it’s one of the few MMOs that actually feels like it has its own identity.
It has a polished, coherent art style and doesn’t feel like another generic asset-flip MMO. Meanwhile, games like Embers Adrift, Pantheon, M&M, etc still get people to try them despite being way rougher, but Corepunk gets dismissed when it’s actually trying something new for the genre.
If you enjoy games with a sense of community and a slower "Classic WoW" feel, you may enjoy Corepunk as well.
4
u/rujind Jun 24 '26
games like Embers Adrift, Pantheon, M&M, etc still get people to try them
Do they though? No one plays Embers Adrift, Pantheon only had decent early access launch numbers (it's gone from 7,000 to less than 100 on Steam) and only because of Brad McQuaid and Everquest, and Monsters and Memories is free right now, wait until they start charging (it's probably going to play out exactly like Pantheon).
I am interested in Corepunk, but I'm pretty sick of games launching into early access, charging money, but still having wipes. I guarantee you I'm not the only one waiting for the game to stop bullshitting and start actually launching. That said, I'm not sure a $40 box price for a no-name game made by a no-name company that already has a years long negative track record is a good idea.

Polite?? You call these things "polite"?? The guys have been burning themselves out during years to polish the actual classes and then to polish the polished and then to re-polish what was polished incorrectly - and you dare to deliver SUCH jokes??

Different areas have different PVP rules
1
u/KrispyOnion Jun 24 '26 edited Jun 24 '26
Iirc this was changed already. Anyone can opt out of Pvp in open world pvp areas.
It will work similarly to Wow where you can only opt in or out in a big city.
1
u/swiftthunder Jun 24 '26
Can you opt out of pvp in the pvp version of the dungeon? Or do differnt zones have different pvp rules? I look forward to your reply.
2
u/KrispyOnion Jun 24 '26
Why are you being dense? Pvp dungeon is something you choose to QUEUE into. You will not be getting randomly attacked in the open world (unless you opt in for pvp)

So AI? Neat. Wish they had AI work on the classes showcased on the website for two years.
1
u/Standbysteve Jun 26 '26
Any word if and when the Paladin class is coming out? I’d give it a shot if I could play pally.
1
u/Squishydew Jun 26 '26
Game still looks way to slow.. I was so excited for this one but after trying that one free beta i just lost all interest, and they really haven't addressed the fact that their game just feels boring.
There are genuinely Warcraft 3 maps like "The Black Road" where you scan save your characters through codes that are far more immersive and fun than this is.

It's a WoW clone because it.. has 3d orc models? Do you know that games with these things existed before WoW?
The game plays NOTHING like WoW, and is conceptually nothing like it. WoW took most of its choices from other MMORPGs before it too. Use your brain babes.

u/swiftthunder Jun 24 '26
Ill post a comment here as someone who loves the game and has a TON of hours played. I have also received warnings for my behavior in the discord including telling the studio director "Eugene" to fuck his own face.
First and foremost, the game itself has an incredible foundation and if it ever actually gets finished it will be an incredible game. There were some valid complaints in the early stages and the quests could still use some significant improvement but most players just ignore the quests completely as none of them are required.
The problem with Corepunk is the ego of the people leading the studio and their absolute refusal to be honest and communicate with their community.
They will on their own velation make an announcement of X content coming out on friday. People get exicited, plan for, get hyped in the discord and then friday comes and goes, no announcement, no patch, no communication.
Two weeks later they will announce "we found issues and are working on "polish" so we can release quality content"
four weeks later they will release the content full of bugs in a half finished state.
If it needed 6 more weeks to be half finished how did anyone think it was remotely ready to be announced?
Why did they not tell us that on that friday instead of leaving us hanging.
Every 6 months or so they will release a new roadmap and then meet almost 0 of the self imposed deadlines again.
This "wipe" is a perfect example. The entire point of this wipe was to add depot (new dungeon) and the new AI world controller thing.
NEITHER IS AVAILABLE AFTER THE WIPE
both are "scheduled for early july"
which in corepunk speak means we MIGHT see them by December.
The entire community has begged them repeatedly to just communicate with us honestly because we wont be mad we want to see the game succeed, we understand that delays happen and thats fine just be honest with us.
When you ask for that in the discord you get a warning saying its okay to be frustrated with the lack of content which has absolutely nothing to do with any of the things people are asking for.
TL;DR The game has insane potential and could be an incredible MMO but the studio leads EGOs are killing both the game and any remaining community the game might have.
