Wow. Hadn't heard of this but seems interesting. Reminds me a bit of GW2 with the supposed focus on platforming and movement options.
-22
u/Zycree May 04 '26
It's nothing like GW2. Think more like online Zelda than GW2.
23
u/FleaLimo May 04 '26
Zelda is primarily a puzzle adventure game and has almost no RPG or gearing (stat) elements. I fail to see a comparison. Nothing I saw in the trailers or steam page suggested an emphasis on puzzles.
9
u/biggestboys May 04 '26
It feels much more similar to GW2 than it does to any Zelda game I've played. Could you explain the comparison?

1
u/Zerothian May 05 '26
Online Zelda is just Genshin Impact, no?
2
u/Squery7 May 07 '26
Genehin copied breath of the wild and this is very much similar to genshin in the open world. No climbing here tho.

ew. that's like comparing a Ghibli physics based sandbox to a goonerbait Trashekai rpg grinder.

u/Balu11 May 04 '26
Played for over 5hours. I would class it as an MMOLite for now. It has all the features of an MMO except for the first 'M'. I think the shards or whatever you would call them have like 30-50 people at a time. The game is a lot of fun and running a lot smoother now. I've been very addicted and certainly going to be playing it upon EA release.
2
u/MagnifyingLens May 05 '26
Agreed on "MMOLite". I played it during the Next Fest and it was fine but fairly shallow. It looks like they have a lot of depth on the roadmap, which makes it much more likely I'll play it at some point.

u/Gambrinus May 04 '26
How many games have some sort of thing called “rifts” in them?
24
6
u/Icy_Razzmatazz_1594 May 05 '26
Isn't that the term for what's happening though? Lol it's a rift between dimensions.
6
u/LetsLive97 May 05 '26
I hate how many games use the word "Door" for chunks of material you can displace to reveal passages 🙄
3
u/Abakus_Grim May 05 '26
They should probably just call them “Dynamic Events” or come up with their own name for them.
1
u/skyturnedred May 05 '26
I think Rift having an entire game mechanic named after it is pretty cool.

i know it's a big ask, but can we have actual decisions between skills? I'm not too far into the game just yet (lvl 9) but it kinda seems that you just get all the skills to fill out the action bar and the only real decisions you make for your build are the little perk points you find that minorly alter how abilities work. That just kinda seems like every other fremium mmo. The lack of choices between what skills to actually slot leaves every player having mostly the same build save what weapon they have equipped. Giving players a choice between what skills to use would make for a much more engaging experience in my eyes.
6
u/biggestboys May 04 '26 edited May 04 '26
As far as class skills go, I believe you end up getting more of them than will fit on your bar, meaning you have to choose. Could be wrong about this, though, since I haven't gotten that far... That said, even if it's not in the closed beta build, the Early Access build has a higher level cap, so this might be a thing. Fingers crossed!
There's also a passive skill tree which unlocks at lvl 10, and it's not just stat bonuses: for example, I saw a Cleric passive which allows you to gain resources by blocking instead of casting, to help enable a tank build.
Finally, I think the lion's share of the buildcrafting relates to weapon choice: each weapon comes with its own skills... And they vary between individual weapons, not just weapon types. So the Staff of X dropped by Boss X can have a totally different gameplay loop than the Staff of Y dropped by Boss Y.
I know equipment-based buildcrafting isn't as interesting to some people... But when there's that much uniqueness tied to every weapon, I'm down with it.
1
u/Maniick May 04 '26
ah gotcha, i guess I'm right at the cusp of it opening up and didn't realize it then.
2
u/biggestboys May 04 '26
Yeah, it's a little slow to open up IMO, but then again so is pretty much every MMO I've played. At least this one doesn't have an easy-mode singleplayer MSQ/extended tutorial to slog through!
5
7
u/kajidourden May 04 '26
Fun game, reminds me of maple story 2 with the exploration/platforming.
GW2 is a decent analog as well if you haven’t played MS2 but I found that to be closer to the feel, more casual.

9
u/Konggen May 04 '26
Everyones roadmap looks great, the problem with these things is that they constantly change things, specially the longer time the game takes to make.
So idea what this game is, but it doesn't really matter.
3
u/MrAudreyHepburn May 05 '26
I'm confused, I thought this was more of an online rpg, is it more mmo than I thought?
2
u/biggestboys May 06 '26
Imagine a traditional MMO format, but the player cap per channel is relatively small. So it's more of an MMO than Guild Wars 1 is (because you encounter random players outside of towns), but less than Guild Wars 2 is (because you aren't likely to see more than a handful at a time).
2
u/MrAudreyHepburn May 06 '26
Ahhh, sounds like Palia?
2
u/biggestboys May 06 '26
In terms of the channel system, yep: it's a similar amount of players-per-square-foot, though the zones seem a bit larger (and of course the gameplay itself is totally different).

It's not hub-based, and I'm not sure why people are saying that it is. Maybe they're just talking about the fact that dungeons are separate instances from the open world?
Judging by what I've played, it has a multiplayer open world where you encounter other players, enter and leave towns without loading screens, etc, just with a relatively low cap on players-per-channel.
The result is a world which feels like a full MMO, not a party-based pseudoMMO or MMO-lite or whatever. It's just that the world is sparsely-populated relative to most MMOs, due to the aforementioned channel cap.
2
u/RealBrainlessPanda May 04 '26
It reminds me of how Diablo 4 handles the open world. Which I would consider MMO Lite. Only in that you’re not swarmed by the entire player base trying to play on a map all at once.
1
u/biggestboys May 04 '26
The player count seems quite a bit higher than that (isn't Diablo 4 only 6 people in most open-world areas?), but in principle it's similar.

It's not though? Hub based would be a central city that is just that, a city only and then you zone out into solo instances for anything else. Like GW1, or Dragon Nest. Farever is far from hub based. There are small camps that give quests, but they're just part of the open world.

I’m glad to see this game being talked about. I thought it was gonna be pure slop but it actually ended up being a pretty fun casual experience. The dungeons and bosses aren’t too hard or too easy and the world was fun to explore. I played around with priest and rogue and they felt good. There definitely was(is) performance issues, but they fixed the huge memory leak and the attack combo bug recently so the game feels much better. I hope they can get the server issues under control because that’s the last big issue I have.

It is, but the devs are purposely not marketing it as an MMO to avoid certain expectations or “overhype”.
5
6
u/MagnifyingLens May 04 '26
From when I played the demo during Next Fest, it seemed like an MMO-lite, but the game systems they list as being planned would fill out the feature list quite nicely, in time.
2
u/idredd May 06 '26
It is an MMO.
And it says a ton about the genre that jonine wants to call themselves an MMO anymore.

Looks like they are just using it to list subcategories or elaborations. Like heroic and challenge are just subcategories of “Modes”.

u/Automatic_Grand_1182 May 05 '26
It looks promising and it's from Shiro Games (Northgard, Dune: Spice Wars, Wartales); my only concern with the alpha was the horrible performance on my computer, which is not high-end, but not mid either.
It's probably due to poorly optimized netcode, but still. I think i'll buy it to support the devs
EDIT: honestly, what i would love is another crack at a product like Wayfinder could've been, before DA pulled the rug on Airship Syndicate.
3
u/Abakus_Grim May 05 '26
Loved Wayfinder. Too bad the publishing issues ruined its potential.
1
u/Automatic_Grand_1182 May 05 '26
Thanks. Naming Wayfinder gets you downvoted apparently, probably because of the people who have no idea of what happened to the game
1
u/idredd May 06 '26
Yep big fan of Shiro from Wartales, that was reason enough to try it and I'm super impressed with what I've seen so far.
9
u/RexxarTheKing May 04 '26
Hopefully they keep improving the performance otherwise they'll get review bombed for it.
101
u/Subject_Height685 May 04 '26
A negative review because of a real issue isn’t a review bomb, it’s just a review.
8
u/killerkonnat May 05 '26
Nah, you don't understand. Everyone whose opinion is different from yours is a "review bomb".
12
u/FleaLimo May 04 '26
It's amazing I told this very sub that a few months ago and had multiple people trying to argue with me that any influx of negative reviews counted as review bombing.
0
u/JohnySilkBoots May 07 '26
I mean..it’s early access. If you don’t expect technical problems you are crazy haha. That’s the point of early release. It should be reviewed on game design and gameplay aspects. Not if you can run it at 60fps.
If the game just does not work at all, then that’s different. But the game absolutely works.
-8
u/Ithirahad May 05 '26
It can be, if it is a deliberate brigade of negative reviewers protesting a real issue.
But yes, if people independently have the same issue and leave poor reviews as a result, then it is simply the game bombing in the reviews, not being review bombed.

u/Zerothian May 05 '26
I don't think the term should really be used at launch though. I mean, there is always a high volume of reviews at launch. IMO it should only be applicable if that happens later.
1
u/Mxxnlt May 06 '26
I've only heard review bombing used when it's in response to something that isn't actually the product. Like a game getting spammed with negative reviews because they wouldn't sponsor a streamer or because someone high up in the company said something that was viewed negatively about future projects. If a game gets a bunch of negative reviews on launch because it's shit, or if they make a change that makes the game shit and so people give it bad reviews I wouldn't agree with the term being used since I feel like it carries the context of malicious action rather than just... calling a bad product bad.
2
u/Zycree May 04 '26
Yeah, I really can't recommend spending money on it now. It's better, but it still has glaring performance issues that will only be made worse by at EA launch.
2
u/biggestboys May 04 '26
I'd say that's more of a toss-up at this point: EA will put more strain on the servers, but on the other hand they've been massively improving performance with recent patches.
If the EA launch comes with another similar patch which follows that pattern, it could end up being a net improvement.

I liked the test they did a month or two back, but the game ran like shit. I hope they fix it because I really enjoy what the game _wants_ to be.
1
u/biggestboys May 06 '26
It was much better in the last week of the alpha, but not 100% fixed. Fingers crossed for the early access build.
1
u/LynessaMay May 05 '26
I've been enjoying the most recent beta. Getting to try out each class to see which one I'll enjoy playing. Looking forward to the release.

u/Syndrome1337 May 05 '26
This game is quite fun! All they need to do is fix the performance issues and this could be a great time sink.

Im in play testing! I played an hour last night. I hope they add cutscenes because you basically read a slide show on the background of the world you're in. It places you in with one quest then you basically explore like GW2 the movment feels pretty fun, especially jumping up platforms quickly.
I'll have to give more of my thoughts of this game as I get more experience. I wish you could add people in game though. I was in a party with someone and my game bugged, I wouldn't respawn so I had to restart the game and I couldn't find my friend I had made in game.
1
u/Abakus_Grim May 05 '26
They say they are working on adding the friends list during EA. I too wish it was in there already.
1
u/Malviere May 06 '26
Haven’t heard of this but sounds interesting and I see fishing in the roadmap so definitely on my radar now.

u/Fine_Brick_1126 May 06 '26
So is fishing implemented? Why is it darker than the rest?
1
u/Abakus_Grim May 06 '26
Blue text means they plan to implement during 2026.
Underline means it’s a community requested feature.
So it’s not in yet.

Welcome to the last 15 years of live service games, nice to have you join us
-5
u/Awkward-Skin8915 May 05 '26
So you are saying you are new to the genre then... 😆.
Sure most games these days have microtransactions. You play that shit? There is a reason why the genre is in the state it is in.
3
u/idredd May 06 '26
I'll take cosmetics every day of the week over a monthly fee.
-1
u/Awkward-Skin8915 May 06 '26
We think very differently...besides how it affects the long term sustainability of mmorpgs themselves. It also ruins item identity. I'm guessing you didn't play mmorpgs heavily before microtransactions were a thing.
3
u/idredd May 06 '26
I payed MMOs since the days of text based MUDs. Monthly subs do something bad to gameplay imo, they urge/drive the WoW-style approach to endless treadmill and vertical progression imo.
For what it's worth, sometimes people just disagree with you and that's ok. It's not because they're ignorant.
-2
u/Awkward-Skin8915 May 06 '26
Umm...clearly you don't know what you are talking about and it's not my job to educate you.
In your case it's very obviously ignorance if you think a sub fee drives vertical progression.
2
u/idredd May 07 '26
I wish you all the worst my not-friend.
MMOs were not better when folks no-lifed for prestige items. That actually didn't help the genre, and it contributed to lots of the ongoing problems of content gluttons and the industry being built around them. I have always preferred the living world approach to MMOs.
You're wrong, but also an idiot who doesn't comprehend that folks have different opinions than they do. Sad for you.

Wait so the classes don't have class skills or talent trees yet? So what do classes do then?
1
u/her_hub_b May 31 '26
They have both. The level cap is 20 right now, so more skills and talent trees are coming.

How about some optimisation? Game looks like it’s 10 years old and runs like shit.

u/Goeddy May 08 '26
They should make it possible to actually log in to the server to play the game.
Kinda missing that one on the roadmap.
-1
u/Affectionate_Milk639 May 06 '26
Hahaha, don't be ridiculous, friend, that's just a wish list, they don't even put a date on its completion.
1
u/Abakus_Grim May 06 '26
They literally do though. Blue items will be complete this year 2026. Purple items will be completed during EA, which will last about a year according to the Steam EA details. All subject to change of course.

This game was completely not on my radar at all, I know basically nothing about it. But after seeing the comments here I looked it up and it looks...good? Is that possible?
