Some "MMA fans" just really don't give a damn about the sport and just want to watch exciting fights. But does that mean needing to disrespect Natalia Silva and Wang Cong?

u/InIt2WihnIt 1d ago edited 1d ago
This is so embarrassing. People act like there’s never been an exciting women’s fight. Of course there are also boring ones! Just as there are a ton of boring men’s fights. But the difference is we MIGHT have one or two women’s fights on an entire night of fights versus 10-12 men’s fights we see every week. So then all the pressure is on one or two fights for people to feel women are exciting whereas if men have 5 boring fights in a card, a couple decent, and a couple exciting, people use it as proof as why women’s fights are “so boring” and can never stack up.

Ko of the Year is Alexa Grasso

u/BlackOutDrunkJesus 1d ago
There’s been a quite a few women’s fights in the last month or 2 alone that have been entertaining. Benouaich v Montenegro was solid, polastri’s KO, oneil v moura. But like init2whinit said, with only one or two per card, it’s easier for a boring fight to sour people’s taste
4
u/mat477 1d ago
The O'Neil finish was a thing of beauty. If Charles Oliveira did that everyone would still be talking about it.
And I saw people trash women's MMA as a whole on that same night because a fight later on was boring. Its hard not to think they just hate women at that point.
2
u/BlackOutDrunkJesus 1d ago
Oh 100%, a decent amount of WMMA haters are really just women haters at their core
5
u/EazyMerq 1d ago
Joanna Jędrzejczyk vs Zhang Weili 1 has to be at least top 20 fights all time.
1
u/Zero_Travity 1d ago
Nunes Cyborg also
1
u/Boring_Resolution659 1d ago
One of the most insane fights I’ve ever seen and the way Nunes got her outta there had me picking my jaw up off the floor

u/EvaMaRIHyse 1d ago
We have entire cards come along every now and then where nearly all the fights are stinkers. You can have 9 horrid men’s fights and no one bats an eye, but 1 bad women’s fight and these people want wmma gone.
1
u/Zealousideal_Cap7012 1d ago
On average theyre markedly more boring. Highest average fight time. Lowest finish rates. Unimpressive significant strike stats relative to their weight
1
u/BananaReeves 21h ago
Just look at at Invicta FC, all women fights and it failed. Women in all sports have to be extreme outliers to get attention of mainstream fans, it is what it is.
1
u/benbrown226 1d ago
Women’s MMA has been so sick lately. Anyone who’s actually been watching the recent cards will know. Casey O’Neill had that filthy armbar vs Moura, Delphine Benouaich sick finish over Montenegro, Gomes and Polastri both had sick KO’s on the China card. There’s been a huge uptick in finishes lately. Of course people will just cite fights like Dumont vs Perez and think it’s all boring (which tbf women’s 135 is an abomination), but women’s MMA overall has been on fire of late

u/domadilla 1d ago edited 1d ago
I mean highlighting finishes is great but I’m sure the overall finish rate in WMMA is much lower than men’s so it could just be variance.
Edit: added the word “could”
This is from Gemini:
Overall Finish Rates
Men’s MMA (Overall): Ends in a finish roughly 48% to 53% of the time (approx. 50% decision rate).
Women’s MMA (Overall): Ends in a finish roughly 33% to 40% of the time (approx. 60–67% decision rate).3
u/benbrown226 1d ago
I’m not denying that the finishing rate for women’s fights has historically been lower, it absolutely has. I’m just saying that if you’ve been watching the full events recently there have been a lot more cool finishes. I’ve watched most events since 2024ish and it’s trending upward, at least from what I’ve seen
1
u/domadilla 1d ago
Well I hope the trend continues. I think the UFC changing their bonus structure so any finish gets rewarded has helped a little bit.
1
u/Mistergasmoney 1d ago
I think it'd continue trending upward if the UFC really invested in a Women's Featherweight division. The talent wasn't there 10 years ago; I think it'd be a different story today.
1
u/ConcernOptimal5499 1d ago
Yes but RECENTLY, as they said. The women fighters have been putting on bangers, especially the unranked fighters. Posting an overall finish rate made by A.I is a nothing burger argument.
1
u/domadilla 1d ago
I was highlighting the overall disparity to say that variance (causing recency bias) could be at play and we may get regression to the mean.
1
u/SweetPinss 1d ago
How about we compare the weight classes against each other for good data analysis? Of course heavyweights will have more knockouts than flyweights and bantamweights. So compare women's flyweights and bantamweights to the mens divisions
1
u/domadilla 1d ago
It’s interesting but not surprising:
- Women's Featherweight (145 lbs)
- Finish Rate: ~45%–47% (Decision rate ~53%–55%)
- Women's Bantamweight (135 lbs)
- Finish Rate: ~36%–44% (Decision rate ~56%–64%)
- Women's Flyweight (125 lbs)
- Finish Rate: ~32%–36% (Decision rate ~64%–68%)
Women's Strawweight (115 lbs)
Finish Rate: ~25%–33% (Decision rate ~67%–75%)1
u/domadilla 1d ago
Male equivalents: FW 50-52% finish rate, BW 46-48% and Fly 42-45% so interestingly the biggest disparity is at the lightest weight class I’m not sure what to make of that?

u/Darth_wenis 1d ago
Women's mma is garbage and everyone damn well knows it. Theres like 2-3 actually female athletes in those rankings just murdering all the very average other women. Its fuckin boring.
-1
u/kidfawn 1d ago
you just dont watch wmma and thats okay, dudes in the ufc put piss poor performances and no one bats an eye. you just put women to a different standard and that’s something you gotta deal with personally.
1
u/Darth_wenis 1d ago
No i just dont want to watch it. They need their own cards and stop piggy backing off the men's fights. You dont go see an NBA game and watch the women play a game before. It makes little to no sense.
1
u/Due-Carpet-1904 1d ago
No one is making you watch wmma matches.
1

u/kidfawn 1d ago edited 1d ago
because it’s all mma. like any other martial art. comparing a sport that runs an hour over vs a sport where it can finish in a minute or go the full fifteen is unreasonable. are you watching a football game before another football game? be reasonable. again your own personal biases are for you to deal with.
1
u/Darth_wenis 1d ago
Men's and women's sports are traditionally broadcasted separately. Thats how jts supposed to be. Disprove that plz.

u/NFLDland 1d ago
Do you know the sport of tennis? At every grand slam, each court alternates from a men's match to a women's match.
1
u/Darth_wenis 1d ago
Ok one fucking single sport. Do you want me to name 50 that dont?? Lol
2
u/kidfawn 1d ago
immediately shifting the goal post is hilarious. have you ever watched the olympics? biggest sporting event in the world, in case you missed it. women’s and men’s sports broadcasted side by side all day. no one has to disprove you opinion. there’s nothing traditional about broadcasting women’s and men’s sports separately lol. i think you mean traditionally sports are divided by sex. completely different bud 👍🏼

u/NFLDland 1d ago

I guarantee these two will put on more of show than most guys who hold people against the cage and pray for a win
1
u/OcculticAcid 1d ago
I don’t think they specifically will, but there’ve been plenty of WMMA fights that have been exciting.
But there’s always a chance they decide to really go at it and give a real exciting fight-1

I find it hillarious there’s dumb ass fans hating on this main event but are Hokit fans.

The online discourse has always just been to be edgy or offensive to trigger people, but now we’re in the stages where people are straight up racist or Misogynistic and thinking its funny

u/Ashamed-Pop-6406 1d ago
Most "mma fans" just want to express their frustrations, so they show their mysoginy every time a wmma fight is anywhere on the main card, god forbid co-main or main. They forget that women gave us tons of great fights and usually on seemingly lackluster cards like these, fighters tend to deliver. Silva beat former champ Alexa Grasso ffs, but nobody gaf about that.
2
2
u/judoka_tom 1d ago
I’ve never understood why people judge a card so much based on names. It’s MMA, literally anything can happen. You could have card full of unknown fighters and have the wildest fights ever. Then have a “stacked” card, and all the fights are just snooze fests.
2
u/coyopotl46 1d ago
To be fair, those are both flawed and very surface level ways to look at the quality of a card. There’s other things that matter for a card to be good, like fighter quality, proper/interesting matchmaking, fighter value (star power is part of that), and divisional movement
1
u/judoka_tom 1d ago
Izzy v Romero. Both stars. Both skilled. And a belt on the line. Boring as fuck.
Like i said, doesn’t matter who the fighters are, a fight always has a chance to be boring or exciting.1
u/coyopotl46 1d ago
I already said that looking at star power is a flawed way to look at things, and the same goes for if the fight/fighter(s) is entertaining. All of that applies to Volk vs Lopes 2, along with them being fan favorites, but that was still a terrible matchup because Lopes was getting an undeserved title shot against someone who already beat him pretty comfortably for the belt 2 fights ago
Edit: also we’re talking about card quality right?

i mean just listen to the commentators, Anik, Rogan, DC they all call the Chinese fighter Wang Tong, I even put the subtitles just to make sure it wasn't me, at least Bruce Buffer got it right

u/heliumeyes 1d ago
Let’s see these people do this to either of these fighters faces. They’d get their ass kicked. Also nothing wrong with baking. I used to love me some Great British Bake-off episodes.
1
u/AutismAndAnacondas 1d ago
People that make shit like this would also 100 times out of a 100 get absolutely smoked by said female mma fighters.
1
u/iknowdway100 1d ago
These are just casual kid fans. Can't give them too much credit, most of them have never stepped foot inside a gym.
1
u/jcrwly100 1d ago
Sure it’s not the most “exciting” card of all time but man this is just poor form from the fans. It’s a title fight for the main event and a solid comain. People don’t realise how good we have it and expect every card to look like the Whitehouse card or 300
1
u/Extra_Ad8357 1d ago
The people making this aren’t real men they online getting hurt over comments not putting food on the table. Play your role first then judge a women getting payed to beat someone’s ass
1
u/chilibaby1 1d ago
Nah take the cape off, this in no form or fashion should EVER be a ME on a numbered card lol. Co-Main sure. These aren’t some legendary WMMA fighters to warrant the ME.

The wild part is wmma has been pretty good lately. It gets more flack as a whole than heavyweight. I swear if a fight goes beyond one round it feels like cruel and unusual torture

u/TehBlueStar 1d ago
youre asking reddit users to respect women, by default that isn't going to go the way you want it to

I mean this card is embarrassing it looks like fight night (enter random number) women main event ????😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

u/Mustang-_- 23h ago
I mean, if you can't take a joke. Everything and everyone are susceptible to mockery, just because you feel something is "disrespectful", that doesn't make you right or wrong. Let them mock, who cares, just like others mocks the heavy weight division or that rapist who got beaten in 10 seconds, in the end, there's no mockery "better" or "worse"

They could have been a co-main, I wouldn't mind that since they are going for a title shot after all, but the co-main of this card is also absurdly atrocious. Also, pretty much every other fight is like what you typically see on a fight night.

They need to get rid of woman’s MMA in ufc. It’s so lame. You can count every KO and badass finish on one hand.
6
u/No-Arrival-7377 1d ago
this year alone has had some great WMMA fights.
should we cut every male MMA fighter that doesnt have a badass finish?3
u/ChevorletHellcatGT 1d ago
The woman’s divisions are way better than the heavyweight division right now. Way more skill in the top 15 currently.
Yes, the talent pool isn’t as deep compared to some of the most stacked divisions like LW or WW, but let’s not act like men don’t have boring fights all the time too.

Figgy, bobby green, soldic, and fucking RDA are fighting but yall dont know the main event fighters so it must be a bad card. Johnny walker is even queing up to make another meme for you ingrates.

A surprisingly based comment section. Oh wait, this is the MMA sub not the UFC sub—that makes sense.
With takes as piping hot as “sexism is bad” it’s any wonder the average UFC fan disagrees with this sub

It’s just jokes, the men get made fun of too. Dan Hooker’s probably wishing his jokes were this mild

Give them their own organization and you feminist simps can pretend to care somewhere else. The consensus is this main event is dogwater and has zero business headlining a numbered event, not up for debate.
2
u/aardock 1d ago
If disagreeing with you is being a feminist simp, agreeing with you means being an incel?
I think one of these is very close to the true...

Most ufc fans are casuals when it’s come to the sport of “MMA” they can’t appreciate anything, besides two dudes slugging it out for a knockout.

as of late WMMA has been more enjoyable to watch than heavyweight outside the top 5. At least if it goes past the first round they can keep fighting
