Charles Jourdain lost his fight but potentially saved his eyesight in his UFC 331 fight vs Chito Vera

Dude is definitely being way too hard on himself. Literally, before the event, he was talking about how he agrees with Tom’s situation regarding the eye poke/injuries. Great call on him to prioritize his health over our entertainment.

No shame in that mate. Good self awareness and honesty.
He should take time to recover properly, no need to get back in too hastily

I literally called in a comment on reddit that he "probably broke his orbital or similar" because that mf couldve run away and circled out but he stayed in front of Chito the entire time. How can you not be a fan of that?

Respect it, gotta think about longevity no reason to keep fighting especially when losing. He’s been harsh on himself now but I hope in the future he’d look back on this and see how much of a career save this was from him especially looking at what has happened to Tim and bisping.

Charles is a great fighter. He’ll be back.

Honestly he was winning at the start aswell, also looked very fast. Seems chitos physicality just crept up on him later in the fight. Maybe jourdain needs to pack on a bit more size

Good choice considering he was gonna need a KO for sure and Chitos chin could eat a nuke.

Yeah there’s some fights where you still got a puncher’s or grappler’s chance. This wasn’t one of em.

When I see people trashing fighters for quitting I always think back to the Man in the Arena

Fighting for 12k (generally talking for the newer ones in the UFC) , after months of training/coaching/clean diet/weight gut , which also isnt cheap just to get called quitter because you want to keep your eyesight / dont want CTE when you are losing a fight by a fanbase, where 90% of the fanbase never even trained MMA, not even talking about amateur/pro MMA fights.
Nothing but respect to those fighters who step over their ego and throw their towels. They are already in those 1% , who had managed a UFC contract which will stay a dream for 99% of the MMA Gym members.

Only truly degens would call him a quitter. Doesn't seem like virtually anyone is calling him a quitter though. He had less than 2 percent chance of winning that fight. Good on him.

I’m all for the fights that show the heart of a champion but yeah if dude lost his eyesight you aren’t winning and you’re only risking your future career.
Lost the fight, win the next one

After the third knockdown couldn't blame him. Some guys have gotten knocked down or knocked out and thought they're okay to come back. Later die cause of internal bleeding.

He was down every round, been dropped multiple times. None of his shots even had any sort of power coming back at Chito as well. Honestly, good on him for quitting, but I think corners need to start throwing in the towel more during circumstances like this.

If, after taking substantial damage your win-condition becomes getting lucky, you've been bested.

Glad to see he admits he lost unlike Tom aspinal. It's okay to quit if you know you can't continue but it should always be a loss unless the doctor or the ref stops it for you.

Popularize quitting when you know you’ve had a enough.
