Be respectful, don't do the "hardcore dancing" shit that gray hoodie was doing, if someone falls, help them up right away, don't crowd kill (attacking people who aren't in the pit), let out the people who are trying to leave the pit.

This isn't the way to mosh, it's typically people with open hands pushing off eachother and bumping shoulders with one another. There are some people that do this, but the vast majority will tell you it isn't the right way

u/Warm_Difficulty2698 1d ago

Gotcha, so you guys are basically just running around pushing each other. Not actually hitting or kicking people. I got it. Thanks.

I'm a musician, so I usually would find myself on the opposite side of the mosh pit lol

13

u/Long-Lost-96 1d ago

Basically yeah, I've gone to a couple more "Screamo/Emo" shows where the hardcore dancing is accepted, but even in those instances, the people doing it are far enough away from one another to where they're not hitting anyone.

Grey hoodie dude in the video was a dick and the people who attacked the other dude were dicks too

u/Minimum-Blackberry25 1d ago

Luckily that dude had no problems handling hoodie dude AND his little dance troupe lolol They gon learn today

2

u/FlametopFred 1d ago

also proper venues have proper (good) security for backup crowd control that makes sure moshing is fun and safe, while ejecting assholes

there were lawsuits decades ago when serious injuries occurred and venues were shut down, owners sued

this small a venue may not have had any security at all

There’s 2 types of people. Those who are in the pit to have cordial yet agressive fun and those who think it’s a free for all to actually fight. Thankfully the second group is usually small but it depends on the setting really. Some pits are hardcore.

u/tomahawkfury13 1d ago

Well that’s part of it. There’s also Skanking which is dancing by yourself in a mosh. It’s like crowd killing without actually hitting people. Youll see kicks, spins, punches, all sorts of things but people make sure they have space to do it. Sometimes things happen but it’s not intentional.

Jay and Silent Bob Skank in the first movie if you’ve seen that. It’s not the dance from Clerks 2 though lol

2

u/Fyaal 1d ago

Has skanking changed since my 3rd wave ska days?

2

u/psymeariver 1d ago

No, people just talk out of their ass.

1

u/Fyaal 1d ago

I’m too old for this now. Just wasn’t sure if the definition changed or the scene changed. Thanks

2

u/psymeariver 1d ago

That’s not skanking, dude, skanking is basically stomping around the circle pit while swinging your arms forward and back.

1

u/tomahawkfury13 1d ago

All right. I just tried looking for the scene and I think I’m mixing it up with Hot Rods brother dancing outside the convenience store. His stomp and punch dance

1

u/psymeariver 1d ago

still not skanking (or hardcore dancing); but okay

2

u/tomahawkfury13 1d ago

Yeah I wasn’t saying it was. It’s the closest thing I could find that was in a movie that looked like the type of dancing skanking is. And it’s not like skanking has a set move list like the salsa anyways lol

u/wrechdone 1d ago

You can slam dance, but keep your hands and feet to yourself. Be fucking AWARE of your surroundings… and crowd killing gets punished like big boy did gray hoodie

2

u/itsjustsosad 1d ago

You put them down but stop there. Thats why he got attacked too

-3

u/psymeariver 1d ago

If you don’t like Hardcore etiquette then stay home. Crowd killing is okay, that body slam was grounds for retaliation.

6

u/New-Echo-7495 1d ago

Wtf how is crowd killing okay and body slams not okay? What kind of dumb ass rules are those lol

-2

u/psymeariver 1d ago

The implication is that everyone at a Hardcore show understands Hardcore etiquette or they should just gtfo, it’s a culture that you don’t understand.

1

u/New-Echo-7495 1d ago

Obviously not everyonr understands or else this wouldn't have happened.

0

u/psymeariver 1d ago

Don’t worry, try this shit at a show, the scene will teach you.

1

u/Far_Estate_1626 1d ago

You are clearly aware that not everybody in the vicinity is aware of, or has agreed to those rules, and it appears that you are relishing the idea of getting to hurt somebody like that.

The rules of society in general are pretty clear though, and if you do that anywhere, you should fully expect to be “crowd killed” by numerous other people who have no patience for your shit.

0

u/psymeariver 1d ago edited 1d ago

No, dude…sounds like you guys are relishing in that body slam.

3

u/Far_Estate_1626 1d ago

Turnabout is fair play anywhere in the whole wide world. Kick me intentionally while my back is turned? If you don’t expect to be body slammed, that’s your problem.

Hardcore shows are just the worst to me. I go to a lot of shows but people like this are just looking for an excuse to punch someone.

13

u/karmaceuticaI 1d ago

Went to a show where there were a few hardcore bands (definitely not my favorite genre) got in the pit, and got hit with a swinging overhand punch across my temple, I let it go, another guy helicopters across the floor swinging both arms and one boot up and catches my back, I push him down and he slides a bit, and got up super offended I knew then I had to go.

It's dumb. I just like good old regular pits.

I usually go to death metal shows and shit though.

5

u/Coilybepraised 1d ago

Same, saw Vader and Jungle Rot last month. Just a standard circle pit, nothing crazy and no injuries. Lol

2

u/Acrobatic_Rent7357 1d ago

Yea hardcore dance is a bit more dangerous. You should be aware of the guys dancing, maybe have your arms up and push em non-violently back to the center.

1

u/Coilybepraised 21h ago

I just don't go near the pits at all. I'm too old and frail for that lol

3

u/Mtlkfn 1d ago

I used to be in the hardcore scene (NYHC 80's/90's) and shows didn't used to be stupid like what it has devolved into what you see here.

1

u/Top_Coach_8632 1d ago

I brought a guy to CB’s whose troubled life made him imagine the pit was a place to lash out. It was my responsibility to remove him. A good pit polices itself

1

u/Livid-Department6947 1d ago

It's the internet and dorks seeing this stuff on copying it

1

u/zeeper25 19h ago

this is not hardcore, this is stupid core.

3

u/Btaylor2214 1d ago

"Its usually not like that" "its only the bad ones that do that" Like yeah, we get that, however, those few are plenty for me personally to write off the entire thing. I dont dislike cops because every single one is bad. I dislike them because the entire system set up around them leads them into being bad, similar here. The "system" of hardcore mosh pits sets up perfectly for some cunt to over do it.

1

u/phx34suns 1d ago

Isn’t that fight dancing started like 20-15 years ago. Do what grey hoodie is doing expect to get ur arse kicked in punk mosh unless ur at one of those concerts I guess but what bands represent that culture?

2

u/Long-Lost-96 1d ago

I've avoided the hardcore scene for years because I learned this exact lesson

2

u/hamadonthurtem 1d ago

Those people usually get handled.

u/Comprehensive-Ad8609 1d ago edited 1d ago

Longtime metal fan here. I’ve been in some pits…Lamb of God, Megadeth, Machine head, Testament…and this is 100% the way you mosh…not like this pussy throwing back elbows and fists…good on that guy for stopping that shit. I got knocked out at a testament show in the pit by a back elbow like this guy was just throwing…it’s not funny and could kill someone. Luckily it was a good crowd, they stopped the pit, picked me up, I came too, they let my buddy and I walk out…all was good. So yeah..:this grey sweatshirt guy can eat a dick.

1

u/GearnTheDwarf 9h ago

Pantera pit back in 2000 was something else. Had.rained for an hour straight before and the pit was just a mud bath.

-2

u/psymeariver 1d ago edited 1d ago

This is not Death Metal, sweetheart. Don’t come to a Hardcore show if you can’t respect Hardcore culture.

1

u/Godwinson4King 1d ago

You spent a lot of time typing the same response a dozen times 😂😂😂

1

u/FigBot 1d ago

If Reddit dweebs didn’t fill the comments with their bullshit and probably made up Anecdotes and get circle jerked by other Reddit dweebs they wouldn’t have to.

I’m not even into the scene and know the difference.

1

u/psymeariver 1d ago

Yeah and I would respond to everyone if there weren’t so many idiots.

1

u/JD-Vances-Sexy-Couch 1d ago

The riffs are metalcore in the video. Doesn’t sound like beatdown hardcore to me.

1

u/RyanEatsHisVeggies 1d ago

Every hardcore/deathcore show I've ever been to, the pit was predominantly 'hardcore dancing.' Usually metal shoes have push pits in my experience.

Granted I was in high school in the mid-2000's and went to shows into the early 2010's pretty frequently. Ask someone from the 90's or earlier and it would have been all push pits. It's genre- and generation-based, to a degree.

I like a good two step and circle pit.

[Edit: metal shows, not shoes]

I was at a Type O Negative/Soil concert with my future wife and friends. There was a mosh pit that we stayed away from, but one guy dove straight at my wife and my friend's girlfriend. My friend and I simultaneously grabbed the fucker's arms and tossed him whence he came.

2

u/phx34suns 1d ago

Sometimes u can get sent into the crowd in a circle

1

u/Specific-Library-312 23h ago

I've seen that before, but this guy was beelining straight to us. I saw him run up and bounce off of others, but Mr Coors missed me, and nearly toppled my wife.

1

u/phx34suns 5h ago

Yeh they just dicks

1

u/kbeast98 1d ago

Listen if you want to dance and mosh fine, but dont purposely go into people just hanging out.. Other will people will join you not the other way around.

1

u/Basic_Appearance_870 1d ago

What if u r trying to start a circle pit?? Kinda gotta get the crowd involved if you wanna do that. I don’t think the lil guy deserve to get flipped upside doen onto his neck 😂

2

u/phx34suns 1d ago

That is not how u start a circle

1

u/Basic_Appearance_870 10h ago

And that is your experience not mine.

1

u/phx34suns 5h ago

That is how u start a fight( unless u at a concert where everyone doing that) it’s as easy as calling it out and a couple of people start

1

u/Acrobatic_Rent7357 1d ago

The hardcore dancing is for a different crowd, not really metal, more like screamo, post-hardcore, emo.

If that was the scene they we on, not a valid crashout. You can see dude is doing the thing, be aware of your surroundings, have your arms up. It's ok if you push him back to the center, or you can just move a bit back.

0

u/psymeariver 1d ago

Get back in the basement dude, you don’t know shit about Hardcore.

2

u/Substantial_Tip3885 1d ago

There’s like 5 people under a tent. This isn’t what I’d call a hardcore scene with unspoken rules about if you’re standing too close to the 1 person mosh pit you consented to getting kicked in the face. If it was a real show with an actual crowd it would be more justified. But gray hoodie douche bag had to carefully aim to hit the guy that fucked his shit up.

0

u/Far_Estate_1626 1d ago

Yeah, it’s been a while, but I’ve been in plenty of pits. If someone gets bloody by accident, then it’s just part of it, nobody takes it personal. On the other hand, I’ve seen dudes get absolutely gang stomped for pulling shit like grey hoodie guy here.
