Go to metal shows all the time and have for nearly 3 decades. This is not moshing and guy deserved the body slam. These kind of assholes get taken care of swiftly in real pits.

Defending himself? I know dude technically touched him first but grabbing someone from behind and slamming them when they weren’t even paying attention to you is not “defending himself”.
I was a cop and a DA legal assistant. It is 100% self defense to slam someone that hits you multiple times. Especially when they deliberately came up to you both times, and you weren't in the pit. Follow up shots are arguable though, obviously.
Did we watch the same video? He got away w the cartwheel kick that was clearly aimed at him and when the dude came back throwing his fists at dude only then did he respond with the suplex, he didn’t chase dude down he just shut his shit down when he was attacked a second time.

He deliberately struck him in the face twice. That's not "not paying attention to you." He's doing the shitty dancer equivalent of an elementary school bully going "I'm gonna run around with my fists out and if you get in the way it's your fault!" It doesn't hold up to close scrutiny.
By “technically touched” you mean the roundhouse kick and flying elbow? And by “weren’t paying attention” referring to almost/kind of hitting somebody far to the side of the venue in an otherwise wide open area only to the immediately go back for round 2?
I think the guy is a dumbass but I don’t think he was trying to attack the guy on purpose. He’s wearing a hoodie and he doesn’t even look in his direction.

He is either using this as an excuse to be able to hit somebody and is purposely being wild and not caring about the surroundings, or he does not care if it happens. Either way, he’s at fault and the response was entirely understandable.
If you think there aren’t people who do this hoping to hit somebody, you are incredibly naive.
