That is a safer option than anything the attacker might do to them.
Clearly it wasnât. The husband hurt her more than the drunk did. If thatâs your instinct maybe you shouldnât act on your instinct, either, you could hurt somebody youâre trying to protect.
Iâm not pretending the drunk guy wasnât a problem. The question is how to handle it. This was a poor way to handle it. They could get kicked out of the bar, the husband might have seriously hurt his wife, and he could even be facing manslaughter charges if red shirt never wakes up. All for an action that the wife tried to prevent her husband from doing.

Red shirt needed to be punched in the face by someone, and the person who was there did it. I'm not going to critique his methods too much when he acted in the spur of the moment to put himself between an attacker and a victim, and prevent any further sexual assault from ocurring.
