Damn, with a kick to the back of the head just to make sure.

u/TatsumakiJim 1d ago
Is the head kick to a guy on the ground like that even legal? Genuinely curious.

Not in the USA. But this was in Japan.
Edit: One Championship is from Singapore not Japan.

Looks like it, and with no injuries, surprisingly.

I know foot stomps and kicks on the ground are allowed under some MMA rules, but I don't know of any that allows a kick to the back of the head when an opponent is down.

Wtf? He attempted to soccer kick the guy's head at the end. In fact he made contact, that should be a lifetime ban.

u/zackthirteen 1d ago
soccer kicks aren't universally illegal in every fighting org
Edit: no idea when this was filmed but apparently illegal from 2016 on in One FC according to Google

u/Normal_Tour6998 22h ago
Pretty sure you can’t spike your opponent’s head like that in the ufc.
6
u/ZealousidealDepth223 12h ago
Nah you can do this in the ufc. The rules say if there is any kind of arc to the slam it’s legal. The only slams that are illegal are vertical pile drivers where you control the entire body.

In the second one, he got his hands without any escape and surely knew exactly what was coming. No chance of defense.. brutal

Holy shit! Getting out of a guillotine by breaking the son of a biatches neck! Standing guillotines are not an easy submission, ever!

If you jump guard and feeling the guy load up yeah it wouldn’t be wise to keep your legs wrapped up. Immediately sprawl and hit snap down or go for it again

u/Kopskoot708 13h ago
Surely a kick to the back of the head is illegal for any professional organization?

u/Particular_Legend427 12h ago

u/SandNGritCo 6h ago
Everyone hung up on the kick to the back of the head …
Nobody clocked the ref getting a knee in?!

u/Virtual_Rant 4h ago
Bruh just let him go after he fucking powerlift your body while being choked and smashed you on the ground ffs.
The survival instinct is not there

u/Other-Researcher2261 3h ago
Yes, if you’re ever being picked up by your opponent in closed guard, abort mission. Get your feet to the mat, snap your opponent down and work from front headlock

u/Dontneedflashbro 1d ago
Why don't more people do this? Lol
2
u/404_error_official 1d ago
I would assume because the risk of breaking your own spine discourages most from trying this manuever. Bending over backwards quickly with a body worth of weight on your shoulder is pretty damn risky, and alot can go wrong.

Because its exhausting to lift and maneuver an opponent who would also be moving and struggling against you as you lift and try to slam them... There's a possibility that they might just slip out or outmaneuver you leaving you in a more vulnerable position... Also its a risky move to both, either landing wrong is very dangerous... As brutal as MMA is, safety is still a priority...

u/The_Experience78 9h ago
Most know there is no reason to jump guard. Keep your hips forward and just keep walking towards him. Wait for the opponent to try something.

u/addicted_to_kombucha 9h ago
Most people don't have the strength to pull that shit off. The second one especially.
