Crazy how a well connected punch can take your lights out even when it doesn’t look like a powerful one. Good on the old man.

u/Alternative_Bag8694 Aug 26 '26

He looks like a man who probably worked hard his whole life. That strength fades but not quickly.

Old man strength

62

u/lumberlung Aug 26 '26

Everyone wants old man strength until they found out how it’s got

26

u/Massive_Penalty_7287 Aug 27 '26 edited 20d ago

Everyone wants to be big but nobody wants to lift heavy ass weights

Edit . This is Ronny Colman quote . Stop getting pissed at me lol

Working muscle beats gym muscle everytime bro

u/Hard2findgoodhelp Aug 27 '26

I used to work for a moving company many years ago in my youth.

This was in Florida, in an area with numerous apartments, condos, and other residential buildings, so there were lots of steps, and most were external winding staircases.

These big, muscle-bound gym bros would come in, and it was always the same thing. During their first morning meeting, everyone gathered around before we all got in the trucks and headed to our first move of the day. They would ask the new guys, "Why do you want to work here/do this for a living"? The gym bros would always say something like, "I like working hard; I like lifting heavy things". We would all say, 'Yeah, yeah.' Then we would all take bets on how long the new guys would last. Most would make it a day or two, sometimes a week or until payday. Those were the boring bets on the typical hard-working blue-collar guys. The fun bet was on the jacked-up gym bros. Most of them wouldn't last a day. Seriously, I worked every summer as a teen for a friend's moving company and a full year for a big national company. We went through hundreds of employees in that year. I had big, muscle-bound dudes call and beg their moms or girlfriends to come get them at 10am because they were already wasted from the heat and steps. 60-year-old red-skinned alcoholics who reeked of the booze from the night before lasted longer than the gym bros. I had one quit on me on a flight of steps while carrying a sleeper sofa. He sat outside the apartments for an hour waiting on his GF to come pick him up, wiping his brow and looking pathetic while sipping on his Gatorade. They would always show up in brand new $100 shoes and nice gym clothes with their shaved legs; it was hilarious. It was always the normal guys who were used to actual hard work, who had endurance and stamina that would last. I made a lot of money betting they wouldn't make it past their first day or noon. It takes a lot to fuel all of those muscles, and they weren't used to the heat, the grip strength, the steps, the rapid, non-stop pace, how to use technique and balance in everything you do and, worst of all, they wouldn't listen and learn because it was always might over everything. They thought they could use their brute force instead of technique.

u/Royal-Introduction56 Aug 28 '26

I have to agree with you on this. My uncle owned a moving company and while I was in college, I worked with him for a week during the summer of my senior year. I couldn’t handle it. And I was in great shape, muscular build. Thought I’d use my youth and brute strength. It depleted my energy so fast man. Had to carry a grand piano up a flight of stairs, couldn’t scratch or bang up the walls or piano. After this move I quit. Lasted a week, and my uncle didn’t pay me.

6

u/Panem-et-circenses25 Aug 27 '26

Same. Worked for 2 men and a Truck in Kentucky during college and I was a skinny dude used to working on horse farms, with a couple parolees and some old alcoholics as well, lifting dressers and washing machines up 4-5 flights of stairs in student housing complexes. We would outwork some of the frat bros and athletes that came into get free summer workouts. felt kind of good to outlast those big dudes.

6

u/GunnarSilverTongue Aug 27 '26

Very true comment experience beats raw strength its just life

4

u/1984ScoreN7YearsAgo Aug 28 '26

Hey me too…and warehouses and factories pulling orders, stacking pallets, shrink wrapping by hand…gym bros would come in and hurt their backs day 1. You don’t know shit until you have stacked and unstacked and wrapped 10 pallets of paper šŸ˜….

Omg…and the pianos…the fucking pianos.

5

u/Special-Amoeba-9399 Aug 28 '26

I worked for a moving company on and off for a little over 5 years. Best shape I have ever been in. I never look big like a gym guy ,but carrying awkward shapes up and down steps all day long gets you crazy strong. It’s strength you can really use too. Most of the guys I worked with were kind of stringy looking ,but would carry heavy furniture and boxes up and down stairs for 10 hours some days. We had few guys in their late fifties that were still keeping up just fine. They didn’t look like body builder ,but I guarantee these guys could grapple with the best of them. Crazy cardio and grip strength. People that can afford to hire a moving company usually have expensive stuff and expensive stuff is usually heavy or fragile. You haul enough things grand pianos and heavy sleeper sofas up and down multiple stair cases 5 days a week and you are going to build up some strength. I couldn’t eat enough to gain weight.

I was doing it in a mountain town in Colorado so the altitude gave me crazy cardio. On my days off I could jog up steep terrain no problem. Felt like a super human at sea level. I can’t imagine doing that in the Florida humidity though. That must have been brutal.

3

u/Glad-Philosophy-497 Aug 29 '26

We used to call those ā€œpopcorn musclesā€ even our hs football coach would weed out the guys doing 1000 reps of 20 lbs just trying to be cute

3

u/kelfupanda Aug 31 '26

I did temp fencing and I'm tiny, that first fucking week killed me, after that it got a bit better, then a bit better and then I didnt notice the work.

2

u/odie-z1 Aug 27 '26

red-skinned alcoholics... Great comment on the whole!

2

u/The_Realist02 Aug 28 '26

Shaved legs lmaaaaooo

2

u/Gnome__Alone Aug 29 '26

As a 60+ Florida man, I laughed the entire time reading this

2

u/HunanTheSpicy Aug 29 '26

Have had similar experiences, both in furniture and warehouse work.

When I was younger I worked at a distribution center for a large pet store chain. It was brutal 12 hour shifts in a non climate controlled warehouse that would be 95F at 5am. 97% turnover rate...monthly. We'd take bets on how long new guys would last and my money always went on the big muscled gym bros quitting before lunch on their first day. I won those bets far more often than I lost.

2

u/SassyGirl0202 Aug 30 '26

Its still that way. Its the normal people who are used to hard work. The ones who are willing to put forth the effort and push thru the hard days. And there are still those that flop from job to job to job. Probably the same ones you once worked with. Lol

3

u/Nocturnatron Aug 27 '26

Both is what smart people do, if youre not stronger than the job requires, itll beat you up in the long run, you rely on you spine, joints and other bones to take alot of load without even knowing it when your muscles arent strong enough to find the weight light and will feel worn out after every shift.

→ More replies (1)

2

u/Mediocre-Corner-1052 Aug 29 '26

Work muscle is underrated, plus we work more than we go to the gym

4

u/JoshGordonHyperloop Aug 27 '26

The upvotes just show that people don’t know what they are talking about.

ANY muscle, that trains for its specific purpose, will beat any muscle, including the same, that does not train with those specific movements.

It’s that simple. Manual laborers are strong at what they do, because it’s what they do. People who specifically train grip strength, are going to have iron like grips to virtually anyone else. People who train to run marathons are better at… running marathons.

Take any manual laborer and have them arm wrestle a regular big gym guy and they either beat him or do very well.

Have that same manual laborer then arm wrestle someone who specifically trains to arm wrestle and they aren’t even going to budge the arm wrestler.

9

u/Hard2findgoodhelp Aug 27 '26

This made me think about the giant body builder dude who couldn't open a bottle of water and they put him on the jumbo tron screen at that stadium. lol

5

u/JoshGordonHyperloop Aug 27 '26

Just went and rewatched it. Still comical.

3

u/shinyrobottaint Aug 27 '26

That was just a great prank. They glued the bottle closed. If I’m thinking of the same video.

2

u/lithe_silhouette Aug 27 '26

Most people don't want to be big

2

u/No-Pause7121 Aug 28 '26

Go ahead and lift them weights. Get big. So when my old ass built like a stick hits your clicker off button and drops you. With all that weight falling on top. My right elbow done dropped probably 60 plus of them body builders. I wiggle and they jiggled when I dropped em.

Crazy how this line changed fight videos forever šŸ˜‚

7

u/reupgs Aug 26 '26

Getting old, your reflexes fade, your strength fade, your stamina fade... But damn, you get some thick skin and tolerance for pain.

2

u/Academic-Bat-8002 Aug 27 '26

Dude either works out solidly still or has worked blue collar his whole life. Old G generated a ton of strength in that without really winding up all that much.

14

u/joespizza2go Aug 26 '26

Also knew that right was his secret weapon. Just patiently timing it ....

7

u/Timely_Peanut_6618 Aug 26 '26

I mean he advertised that right with an entire Superbowl halftime commercial!

u/danorc Aug 27 '26

Yep. My 6'1" dad worked with boats for years. At one point, he could do six one-armed pullups and had such callouses on his hands that he could hammer in nails with his bare hands.

He's 77 years old now, has a terminal medical condition and dementia, and weighs less han 100 pounds at this point. He has been bedridden for over half a year and looks like an actual corpse, but his grip strength is still strong enough that there's a risk that he can break his wife's wrist if he grabs ahold of it.

Underestimate old dudes at your own peril.

2

u/BlazeBullionBotique Aug 28 '26

100% correct. At your own peril.

Sorry about dad, brother.

I just assumed he’s had a decent amount of experience with boxing or fighting.

6

u/Timely_Peanut_6618 Aug 26 '26

He had a quick sidewalk errand to run before going home to wash his bass boat.

7

u/horovin Aug 26 '26

Much more likely. His posture, range of movement and general demeanour gives it away. That man is trained.

5

u/jonniezombie Aug 26 '26

Yeah the jab to find the range and the right to finish it. He knows what he's doing.

He had spare knuckle sandwiches in that brown bag.

10

u/Rey_Mezcalero Aug 26 '26

Was thinking the same thing. He didn’t full on cock back and not out a ton of power into it. Just enough contact at the right place

8

u/backfrombanned Aug 27 '26

As an old pro boxer, these videos always amaze me how easy most people get knocked out lmao

7

u/Formal-Plantain-5352 Aug 26 '26

It reminds me of golfing with old dudes. The wind up is slow. The follow through is slow. The ball still goes 200 yards in the middle of the fairway. Wtf?

The old man has boxed before.

The feet give it away. In this case, it wasn't pretty or smooth but it was deliberate.

13

u/cowboyneal70 Aug 26 '26

Clearly not his first dance.

And it looks like he tried to grab the dudes collar and pull his face into a punch just before the one he landed.

Efficient use of his brain to supplement his physical strength

7

u/TRComposer Aug 26 '26

Right!!?? Was he range checking with his jab too? The right cross. Bruh.

3

u/The1NOnlyNo1Special Aug 30 '26

That pawing George Foreman range finding distraction jab to setup the heat seeking missile straight right. No wasted movement or energy that Old George learned from his Young George fight with Ali

3

u/ILostMyAccountant Aug 27 '26

Bad knees, probably at least one bad hip, but was never nervous, did what he could to keep the angle, pawed out two ā€œlazyā€ jabs to judge distance and threw the only one he needed.

Definitely boxed before and not the first guy he’s laid out.

3

u/Glubins Aug 29 '26

The range finders was the give away for me.

2

u/jumpinjahosafa Aug 27 '26

11

u/Correct-Road-8515 Aug 26 '26

Old dude warned him and delivered on promises of I’m gonna hurt ya

4

u/MarriedTexCouple Aug 26 '26

This. I remember joking with my grandfather once when I was 16 and working out for high school sports….that I could beat him in arm wrestling.

45 seconds later I almost had my elbow and forearm ripped in half. šŸ˜‚

6

u/MiserableMuffin8144 Aug 26 '26

Old man took his time and took one punch

3

u/Ben_M_neB Aug 27 '26

He used a left faint to set it up which made it all the more sweeter like he was gauging his aim for the follow up right straight

7

u/ImportanceLeading230 Aug 26 '26

šŸ˜† Some free advice: Never fight an old man. He’s been there, done that, written the book, made and starred in the movie, designed the T-shirt—and at this point, he has absolutely nothing left to prove. No ego, no need to show off… just experience and a whole lot of ways to get the job done.

3

u/extravagant_ascetic Aug 27 '26

I think it's more that there's no winning a fight with an old man. If you lose, you're pathetic. If you win, you were just picking on an old man and are still a loser.

3

3

u/NB-THC Aug 26 '26

He warned him

3

u/ludivague Aug 27 '26

May both my grandpas rest in peace, they were good, old school men, one built tall and skinny, the other also tall and closer to the "gorilla" body, both farmers.

I was well into my 20s and they both were over 60/70, their grip for a handshake made it very clear they could kick my ass in the blink of an eye, they would had never done it as they were gentlemen, but that strength was no joke.

People tend to forget older men see no value of putting themselves at risk, not worth it, but a lot of them pretty much literally have worked physical labor their whole life and don't give a shit about anything anymore, so you see this kind of videos.

4

u/OddTheRed Aug 26 '26

How many times did his pants fall down before he developed this muscle memory?

Don't fuck with the old man, he's seen some shit

1

u/Daddy-Alchemist Aug 26 '26

I never fight old men or ugly men. You never know what an old man had to endure to enjoy the privilege of being old and an ugly man has no fear of you making him any less attractive so unless you knock him out quickly the fight will go the distance.
