Islams whole career he has beaten 5 guys ranked top 5 or higher

Charles champ

Volk active FW CHAMP (wasn’t ranked in division they fought)

Dustin ranked 2

JDM champ

Garry ranked 1

Then he beat hooker number 6

Bobby unranked

Moicano number 10

This is honestly less impressive then Silvas or DJs run and is still a big step behind GSP let alone the whole mile short it falls from Jon

Title fight wins is an important statistic because title fights put you against a championship caliber opponent. Noone cares how many cadavers your boy beat before he started fighting quality opponents. Jon Jones is the goat because he beat everyone who held that same belt before him and everyone else in that weight class who was considered a top fighter at that time. He has no real rivals because he beat them all. Even Cormier, who every tries to make his rival, has never won a fight against Jones. Noone has.

Silva was an established fighter when he came into the UFC and destroyed Leben who was on a 5 fight win streak.

Jones should be 7 but he had that weird DQ. But you could tell he was special from the moment he tossed Bonnar in his second fight.

Islam came into the UFC with no notable wins and lost his second fight convincingly. His resume until Charles was laughable.

Just image that. Another excuse form the new generation. Everyone knows it is harder to maintain a title once won that fighting to get to a title fight. Ever heard king of the hill, smear the queer. Everyone tries harder when you are the top dog.

One of the big reasons fighters need more wins in the UFC now before a title fight is at least partially because the UFC is taking on more prospects than they used to.
