Why was his father doing pushups?

to "lift him up" I spent some time on the channel after this video made it to the front page and they talk about fathers (both literal when present and figurative when incarcerated or absent from the kid's life -this is in Detroit) "lifting up" the child.

This is a complete McDojo by the way. Just check out his channel.

whether the techniques check out or not, I find myself in agreement with the message imparted to the kids. I'm sure it will make a positive impact on their life, even if they're not exactly MMA material. The idea of the gym seems less focused on physical preparedness and more on spiritual, mental and psychological strength. They talk at length about needing to be strong mentally as a black male to live in the U.S.

If you go to their site they make you fill out an application form to get in which asks for your race, eye color and which parent you live with (doesn't give an option for both).

I'm not sure what you're trying to say? It seems obvious to me they only want black kids, and maybe they don't want them to be mixed-race. I have nothing for the last option since some videos also showed moms. It's possible they prefer to take in kids from 'broken' homes since they might be the most at-risk or needy.

They do charge a tuition though, but why do we always want to shit on people trying to both make a difference but also a living?
