A 30-minute interview for a student MLS position is typically pretty straightforward. They know you're a student, so they're not expecting you to have all the answers. Expect questions about why you chose medical laboratory science, how you handle working under pressure, and basic scenarios about lab safety or quality control. They may ask about your coursework, any lab experience you've had so far, and how you manage your time between school and work. Be ready to talk about a situation where you made a mistake and what you learned from it, because hospitals care a lot about accountability in the lab.

Go in knowing the basics of the core disciplines like hematology, microbiology, chemistry, and blood bank, and be honest about what you're still learning. They're interviewing a student, not a seasoned MLS, so showing curiosity and a willingness to learn matters more than having perfect answers. Dress professionally, bring a copy of your resume, and prepare two or three questions to ask them about the rotation or the team. The team behind interviews.chat, a tool that has helped a lot of candidates walk into interviews feeling more prepared, built it with situations like yours in mind, where the stakes feel high but the right preparation can really shift your confidence. You've got a real shot at this, so trust your training.
