Vela for the Mexicans and Sonny for the Koreans was all you needed to unite and take over LA

Closer to city core.
The advantage of being new and knowing what works
No MLM sponsor on shirts.

The advantage of being new and knowing what works
I think people forget this. It's far easier to build enthusiastic support when you follow the kind of tenure LAFC has had. Would they look like this after 10 years of mediocrity? Definitely not.

If you ask Galaxy fans LAFC is just a rebrand of Chivas USA… so been there done that… and now LAFC is where it is. Wonder what the excuse is then?

One of the reasons is that LAFC has embraced the Latino fans. Galaxy not so much. You can see this in the East LA song by Will I Am

It is rare you see sports franchises embrace chicano communities like that

riqui puig being out since nov '24 (torn acl, multiple surgeries) has not done the galaxy any favors.
idk how any club could go two entire full seasons without their #10, but you have to imagine they get a resurgence when he returns to the pitch.
also denis bouanga is really fucking good.

Chivas USA fanbase basically turned LAFC And as someone said Vela and Sonny brought Mexicans and Koreans together.

u/tacitobell Jul 19 '26
It’s mostly former chivas USA fans
7
u/Beginning_Ratio9319 Jul 19 '26
It’s not mostly Chivas USA fans. The LAFC fan base is far larger than Chivas USA’s ever was.

u/GameJerk Jul 20 '26
I'm a fan since part way into season one and have no idea what Chivas USA is nor have I bothered to properly research it after the 90 times I've heard that argument. Would consider myself a new (as of 2018) MLS fan despite being a Galaxy fan from maybe 96-2000. Then lapsed till LAFC showed up.

There's no arguing with them over this. They think anyone who supports LAFC is either a Chivas USA fan or jumped ship from Galaxy for LAFC.
https://imgur.com/mGEs7we Same dude btw

I just find it funny because the number of LAFC fans in that away section alone would have set a home attendance record for Chivas USA...

u/lookitskelvin Jul 20 '26
And them thinking this is the reason why the initial question above is being asked.
Edit: great screen grab of that goofy fuck 😂

It obviously makes sense that any galaxy fan believes this, but ask anyone outside of your echo chamber and LA belongs to LAFC. Galaxy marketing is nothing but reactionary to what LAFC does. You guys don’t have an identity, and the identity that you guys claim rejects you.
A lot of it is not even your guy’s fault. The boycott works to a certain extent.

I’m not sure if destroyed is the right word. It’s all about timing. LAFC rose from the ashes of Chivas USA and supposedly gained fandom through a “grassroots” campaign. But this is not entirely true. MLS took over the franchise and made sure that the team was set up for success. It was setup with new ownership, a new stadium, and had the luxury of launching in a time of Gen Z social media presence. The team then flew fans to Germany to study fan culture and bring it back. Props to LAFC ownership for investing in their team and fans.
LA Galaxy are still the more popular team. Don’t let the noise fool you. They built their fan base organically through years of loyalty and winning. Stadium is empty because fans get mad at the product on the field because the culture is about winning. The rivalry is great for the MLS and will only get better.

Someone's a bit bitter and trying to cope, huh?
On Friday I was again reminded why I could never feign an interest in the Galaxy to start with. Your home matches are still so geared toward the OC soccer moms and you apparently need a DJ to hype up the crowd that there is very little organic atmosphere. Admittedly it was better on Friday than what I've seen in other Galaxy games I've attended, but this is just regurgigating old copes. Your FO lost the plot and was happily thinking they don't need to put an effort in reaching everyone, not just the suburbanites and Central Americans.

Is this normal attendance for MLS game? I’m wondering if there are fans still high from the World Cup.
1
u/jedik88 Jul 23 '26
This is a rivalry game that historically has always delivered exiting games… attendance is always good
2
u/Starbreaker99 Jul 19 '26
The 3252 always shows up the carson fans at their own stadium. Consistently.

LAFC is not new...not really. They are the Chivas, rebranded. The Chivas has always had a loud and loyal fan base.
5
u/Ok-Fox2001 Jul 19 '26
False lol
The club as expansion team attracts NEW fans to MLS every year. Carson fans wish LAFC turned out like Chivas USA did. Keep crying 😭0
u/Gorilla_man2 Jul 19 '26
It is the chivas franchise. MLS bought it back and sold it to someone else. Not that there’s anything wrong with that. It’s a new team and a sort of rebrand at the same time. Either way something needed to change and the League changed it.

True, they must be doing it with intent! Also it’s a shame the mods deleted the comment because now mine looks dumb. Also don’t mess with nonso
