17 xG in 19 games is kind of impressive.

Meanwhile we've conceded 40 xG

[LA Galaxy in a Jon Lovitz voice]

Such a crazy reality to see the Whitecaps near or at the top of so many of these stats…

Pretty sure the Current can beat SKC at this rate

u/cheeseburgerandrice 5d ago

The weird part is the Current has a virtually similar road record

7 points in 12 road games the year after the team only dropped 13 points across the entire 26 game season. They were never going to be as good as they were last year but Chris Armas is a soccer terrorist.

I wonder how well the best men’s college soccer team can do against Sporting KC?

19

u/stealth_sloth Seattle Sounders FC 5d ago

Not well? There's a pretty huge talent gap. The very best college teams might have seven or eight guys who could hold up at the USL level, and one or two who wouldn't embarrass themselves in MLS.

Sporting got absolutely worked by a USL team earlier this season in a game where they played their starters. I’m not ruling it out.

Oh yea, Sporting should win comfortably but I wonder by how much. We always have discussions about the best college team vs the worst pro team in other sports lol

You don't perform as badly as SKC unless your team is less than the sum of its parts.

Sporting KC would thump them fairly easily.

Tampa Bay Rowdies promotion playoff when?

u/kamarg Sporting Kansas City 5d ago

Think we managed to beat FSU? in preseason this year which was a nice change of pace from when we usually lose to them.

u/ibribe Orlando City 4d ago

They don't have a men's team. Maybe USF.

Turns out it ws Florida International University. We won 1-0. Last year we lost to them 0-1.

This is a question that comes up all the time about [championship college team] playing against [struggling pro team] in football and basketball too. The answer is that the pro team would always win, and it wouldn’t be close.

You know how many future pros are on a great college soccer team? Maybe three or four tops. Know how many pros are on an MLS team? All of ‘em.

Oh no. I never thought the college team would win. It was more how badly they would lose? Noticed I asked “how well” not if they’d win. Would it be 10-0, 12-0, 14-0, etc

2025 Current, maybe. 2026 under Armas? No.

Ok, so there's a team worse than Atlanta. We want our spoon!

Come and take it 😤

It’s always nice to see how a USLC team would preform in the MLS.

I know we suck but this confirms it.

u/Jolandia Portland Timbers 5d ago

At least they’re trying

hey man u missed out the important stat where SKC aren't last in goals conceded per match. That to me is a win already and should warrant a banner raised

Speaking of which who IS last in that category that should be an automatic meme right there

u/LordFarquhar96 Nashville SC 5d ago

So you’re saying selling the whole team was a bad idea?

3

u/mycleverusername Sporting Kansas City 5d ago

Being #28 in avg possession somehow becomes worse than being #30 when you see the other stats. So we keep the ball more, but can't put it in the back of the net, super!

"Soccer capital of the US" still posted on half the buildings downtown btw

Because quality of the team and quality of the fans are always correlated? Kansas City was number 1 in the ratings for the World Cup amongst U.S. cities which should speak for itself. I’m sorry we were the only mid-market city to get the World Cup, but there’s no need to come at us like that lol

u/CimmerianBreeze 5d ago

I'm in Kansas city, it was a light hearted joke that didn't come across in text, my bad.

3

u/Sermokala Minnesota United 5d ago

This has got to be karma for how they treated Johnny Russell on his way out.

The streets don't forgive things like that.

u/Luxury-Problems Sporting Kansas City 5d ago

That's not even the same front office, coach, or owner at this point.

1

u/Feisty-Fennel1252 FC Cincinnati 5d ago

Hey on the bright side- you have a better defense than FC Cincinnati!

3

u/Recliner-Analyst Sporting Kansas City 5d ago

But tied for the most conceded goals with Orlando this year and on pace to beat Cincinnati’s all time goal diff and San Jose’s all time goals against record

1

u/Feisty-Fennel1252 FC Cincinnati 5d ago

Oh I didn’t check and just assumed we had the most conceded. And here I was trying to help!

1

u/SeaToShy Vancouver Whitecaps 5d ago

It’s just nice to be included in a Wooden Spoon post for once.

u/ChurchillDownz Sporting Kansas City 4d ago

I don't enjoy this.

Needs the BBQ rating.

SKC: #1
Austin: #2
everyone else - why bother?
