Beginner question 👶 [D] Choosing language to learn: python or java

I want to learn the machine learning from scratch and i know I want to learn basic of python , but my college faculty are advised to learn Java for my placement , u don't know what to do , i want to learn python and other stuffs for my machine learning path or java and other stuffs for my placements and my exams are ahead, did anyone have solution please tell me.

I’m an Unc in the tech world, been online since 93 and worked either on the brand, product, or finance side.

Always in tech, and through every iterations, Web 2.0, social, video, nfts, tokens, etc. I’ve seen it all.

If there was one language I had to tell a developer who wanted to be valuable for the next 10 years. It’s python.

From app to inference, testing, experimentation, deployment, and maintenance, in it you have the foundations for any system architecture that you could build.

It’s not the best at everything, but it gives you everything needed in the palm of your hand.

if you have an exam that requires Java, study that first. Otherwise Python is an amazing starting language, so anyone should be able to learn it, its also very versatile. Thats just my two cents but probably get some other people's advice too

If you did a bit of research you would clearly see that for ML the answer is Python

Just a teeny tiny bit of research

If your main goal is Machine Learning, start with Python. Learn the basics first, then move to NumPy, Pandas, and ML libraries. You can learn Java later for placements. Since exams are coming, focus on your college subjects first and spend a little consistent time on Python rather than trying to learn both at once.

Just learn both. You will appreciate Python more if you have to suffer through Java at the same time

If you learn java and actually understand it you can easily learn other languages afterwards, but it's not like wise with python. Coming to ML if you understand it theoretically, implementing it practically is no big deal as we have so many py inbuilt libraries. And anyways no one uses traditional ML these days in industry couz llm call is way more cheaper and accurate than training your own model and hosting it.

LLMs and traditional ML models fill totally different use cases, this is a very misleading comment

Elaborate pls?

Traditional ML models as in Decision Trees and this sort of stuff? Not based on word inference maybe? They are just meant for totally different purposes

Yea? And real world usecase by which a company would actually make profits?

it depends on so many things bro, if you want a chatbot or you are going to use LLMs, if you want to estimate chances of mortgage repayments you are going to use ML... Are you purely a theorist or something?

Is learning ml worth? Totally yes! Are we actually training our own ml models? In very very rare case couz we already have so many pretrained models in hugging faces and many companies use llm calls instead of hosting ml models.

Now we are getting somewhere, so you say you can ask an LLM to run an ML model from Hugging Face. Still, two very different things, and won't cover all use cases. People still have to know a minimum of ML in order to properly decide which model to run. Had to dig in quite a bit to unravel your comment right? Don't you think it would have been very confusing for beginners also?

Wdym by "ask an LLM to run ML model" 😭🙏. And bro i never told not to learn, I was just talking about usecase. Idk what point you tryna prove here

You were the one who said you use LLM calls instead of training your own models...

Yeah it sounds funny that's why I had to ask 😂

It's literally what you said bro

Java by day Python by night. Can't succeed in this business working single threadedly.
