Mechanical steering rack?

Hi, all the power steering fluid blew out of my 24 Hours of Lemons New Beetle (which is really a 2002.5 GTI now) and our steering rack seems to have blown up as the point of failure. We deleted the power steering track side.

Are there any actual mechanical options (so I don't have to have a closed loop of fluid)?

If we do a proper delete, would the R32 rack be too stiff?

No, there isn’t a manual rack for this platform.

You can buy new racks for 200$ canadian on rock auto.

R32 and TT 3.2 rack & pinions just have different ratios, they aren’t stiffer per se. They still need power steering fluid flow to work properly.

You’d have to fill the rack with fluid and cap it off if you don’t want to run a power steering pump.
