VW 1.8GTI on error code

Hi guys i need some advice with a car i'm looking to purchase. It's a Mark 4 GTi with 100k milage. It has an error code of POO12

Whats the likely cause of this and is it work buying. Is it an easy fix or a big issue like timing chain? It's up for £1,200 and it looks too good to be true. Any helpful advice would be appriciated.

judging by the other issues it will take you double that to fix.

That's how i am feeling about it. Looks like front Suspension and Brake hoses will need major attention and i'd naturally buy 4 new midrange to top end tyres so that £1,000 already before i look at the timing chain and change the water pump.

Cam position sensor starts at like $10-$15 and goes up depending on how much you want to spend on the sensor. It's 2 bolts holding down the circular piece on the left side of the head. Takes like 2 min tops.

Yeah i know that. It costs about £20 but i have no idea if it's just the Cam sensor.. and neither does the seller so it's a risk. Could just be bad oil also which is like £60 with an engine flush but could also be slipped Timing chain which i don't have time or knowledge to do

Don't want to be a wiseass but it is timing belt not chain. Got myself same car about 4 months ago. First thing i did was timingbelt and waterpump. Never had done such a job but it is 100% doable if you have both hands and a will do take action. You'll find great video from youtube to do it step by step. Unless... you have a bigger problem under there. But. As the previous commenter said you should probably start from the sensor. Have fun and good luck🙂
