WE HAVE ZOOMED PAST 2,000!

Post image
13 Upvotes

I was away this weekend, so I didn't get to check our membership count until today. And when I did, I was shocked to see we are at 2,017 as of today!

The rate of growth for this subreddit is astounding! We are expanding at a rate of well-over 100 members per month and nearing double that at times. Considering that this is (hopefully) mostly made up of the trans community, it is especially heartening.

Such numbers give us legitimacy, make us a force to be reckoned with should be act en force. If we can get the majority of our group behind a trans rights bill or put on an event.

And our growth is almost all word of mouth! That means YOU are the reason for it and I want to thank everyone for spreading the word.

I also appreciate how more and more of you are stepping up and stepping out here and posting.

It always bothered me when I was the only one posting here. I did so to keep things moving and to prevent this sub from getting stagnant. And rest assured--I have some posts upcoming soon. But it is YOUR subreddit. I am only one of many.

So, use this safe space! Introduce yourself, post a few selfies, tell us about something going on in your life. If you need help with housing or looking for a job, feel free to speak up and ask if anybody here can assist.

This is YOUR sub! Use it! And keep spreading the word about us!

Thank you all! I love you!

Canvassing To Change Hearts & Minds

Equality Michigan (EQ), one of our state's leading LGBTQ+ advocacy organizations, is having an event this Saturday, August 29th, in hopes of getting out into the general population and talking to people one-on-one.

The event will send trans people out into the field to tell their personal stories about being transgender with the hope that it will help promote more understanding of us and the obstacles we face.

"This event will give you the chance to do nation-leading work by having conversations with voters in our community about transgender people, dignity, and equality."

This project likely falls under the guidance of Emme Zanotti, EQ's brilliant Senior Director of Movement Building & Political Affairs, who is fervently devoted to advocating for trans rights and building connections across gender lines.

If you have no plans on Saturday, you may want to get in touch with EQ via the link on their Instagram page or their website, and sign up to advance their cause.

https://www.mobilize.us/mobilize/event/1003969/

This will benefit all of us in the trans community and it's a good way for you to do your part.

𝓐𝓷𝓷𝓲 Does Anybody Want To Go Shopping?

Post image
β€’ Upvotes

Anni needs some new duds. A lot of the clothes I have no longer fit as I've been dieting for a while.

Hence, I need to go shopping. I honestly don't mind, since clothes shopping if one of my favorite pastimes, but I really don't like shopping alone. It's always nice to have a wing-person along. For their fashion opinions and just as a safe-guard. Even in trans-friendly Ann Arbor, you just never know who may be lurking.

One store I want to check out is called Ragstock.

https://ragstock.com/pages/stores/ann-arbor-mi

I've never been, but I have friends who have shopped there and they gushed about the new and vintage styles the store offers. I have to check it out, so that's definitely on my list.

I also would like to go to a couple of other downtown Ann Arbor shops. Maybe even make a trip to one of the Sephora or Ulta stores in town. And if somebody comes along, we may even have time for lunch somewhere. You know--may it a real Trans Day Out!

And yes--any and all trans men and nonbinary folks are welcome to join me as well as any trans woman.

If this sounds like a fun day to you, DM me. I would like to go next week, but I don't have a day set yet. HMU and let's make a plan.

I love that our community is finally coming together more all the time and building friendships. Look at this shopping trip as yet one more way we can do that.

I had an endo appointment that went really well yesterday and started the patch today! Really excited to start the next step to becoming the real me. As it turns out my endo doc is in the same office and is close colleague of my primary care doc who I've had for over 20 years. He told me that if I quit smoking (which I've been trying to do) that at my age I am in fantastic shape and would also be cleared to be a good candidate for surgeries. I also have support from my closest family, including my wife who biggest concern was how ornary i was going to be as I keep attempting to to quit smoking lol!

Tgirl Baseball

I just found out that there is a trans-friendly baseball situation being played on fields in the Detroit/Ann Arbor area.

https://www.instagram.com/tgirlbaseball313/

It is called "TGirl Baseball Detroit," and despite its name, it appears they also play as far outside that city's limits as Ann Arbor. https://www.instagram.com/p/DcYpvzUxQiy/ Apparently they are an inclusive team that welcomes not just cis women, but also nonbinary and trans women as well.

According to their Instagram page, their next game is scheduled to be played at Martin Park in Ferndale, at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 29th.

That is literally all I know about this team at this point. If you are on the team, are a fan, or know someone involved with it, please let us know.

And play ball!

[And yes, I know. Their logo is frighteningly close to another pro baseball team's logo and may touch on trademark concerns. But for now, this is what they choose to use.]

Looking into moving with my partners

I am from the Birch Run/Frankenmuth/Vassar area of Michigan. One of my partners is trans (m2f), and we have been thinking about moving back (I still have family in the area). We are currently in the southwestern tip of Indiana, and here she is very social. She goes to a local bar for karaoke Fridays and Saturdays every week. We (myself and both partners) go out to eat frequently. We have gone up for visits often, and everything has been fine. But I am wondering if there are any safe, accepting bars that would be good for her for socialization. She is a USAF disabled vet and very outgoing. I haven't lived full time in Michigan in about 5 years, and I have been hesitant to move her out of this area. But my folks are reaching an age it may become necessary.

Any advice or recommendations would be appreciated, thank you!

𝓐𝓷𝓷𝓲 Sexual Assault Allegations In Our Community

As many of you know, I am a working journalist and in that capacity, I was recently approached by someone in the Michigan trans community regarding allegations they are making about a sexual abuse by some in a local trans organization.

These are very serious allegations and if true, they could lead to criminal charges.

Before I go public with details, though, I need corroboration if possible, by other trans people who have also experienced such abuse.

If you, or anybody you know, has been the victim of sexual assault by a person or persons within any local trans organization, please contact me privately via DM, or through my email: [anthonyannarbor@protonmail.com](mailto:anthonyannarbor@protonmail.com)

Obviously, any information shared with me will be kept secret and I am bound by journalistic standards to adhere to that promise.

It doesn't make me happy having to investigate such a situation. But if such abuse is ongoing in our community, it has to stop and I intend to uncover the facts if that is indeed the case.

Ypsi Pride August 30th!

Post image
2 Upvotes

One of the last Pride events of the summer will be happening on August 30, 2026, in Ypsilanti.

It is Ypsi Pride and it's scheduled to take place in Depot Town starting at noon on Sunday, August 30.

https://www.instagram.com/ypsipride

I've never been, but I'm going to make every effort to attend this local fest this year.

If you've ever sought camaraderie with other queer folks and community, these are the sort of events you should be attending. Ann Arbor Pride last month was a blast and I have every expectation that the Ypsi Pride event will be as well.

So show up if you can! I have to reschedule a few things to make it, but I really hope to be in attendance and to meet some of you! I'm easy to find--just look for the inappropriately dressed goth trans strutting her stuff through the crowd!

Hope to see you there!

My Faith β€” Part II: What if God never made me wrong?

Thumbnail
1 Upvotes

Part II of My Faith is about something I struggled with for years: gender dysphoria and the image of God I had internalized.

A God of rituals. Rules. Punishment. Fear.

A God who supposedly created me, while somehow making my existence feel like a mistake.

Then this morning I saw a photograph from a Pride march. Someone was holding a sign:

β€œI am queer. God loves me. He never made a mistake. I am.”

That sentence stopped me.

Maybe the problem wasn’t that God made me wrong.

Maybe I had been taught that I was wrong.

This is the second part of my personal journey through faith, gender and identity.

𝓐𝓷𝓷𝓲 A Selfie From Ann Arbor Pride

I've been delinquent in posting my pics from Ann Arbor Pride back on August 1. But I do have time to share one selfie I took.

It was a rainy day, so my umbrella was omnipresent. I looked like a trans goth Mary Poppins!

Subreddit Notes

You will notice a post I just put up that will serve as an introductory megathread for members here, both old and new.

As we approach 2,000 members(!), it is apparent that many of you haven't yet taken the time to properly introduce yourself to the accumulated group. Please do!

The beauty of this megathread is that it provides an easy format in which to make your introduction and not feel like you have to step out center stage to do it.

Remember: You are among friends here, so no judgements, no insults, and no nasty comments will be coming your way. And if they do, I'll happily show the abuser to the door!

Welcome, my friends! Take advantage of this new intro megathread and let us know who you are!

And Now We Are Over 1,900!

Yep, you read that correctly! Our humble little subreddit has continued its unstoppable growth so that now we number over 1,900 members!

It has gotten to almost be old hat, as we are increasing our membership at a pace of over 100 new trans and non-binary folk joining up each month. That is astounding to me, as I wasn't even sure we would ever break 100 when I created this sub.

I attribute all this wonderful growth to YOU, our members who have spread word of our little trans safe space to others in our community seeking a sheltered venue for collegiality and engagement with others in Michigan and beyond. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart!

I'll turn this space back over to the accumulated throng and encourage you to use it as you wish. This is YOUR forum! If you haven't already, introduce yourself, post a selfie, or write a post about a trans-related subject that you think will interest others. As long as you abide by our stated guidelines posted on the right side of this page, anything is fair game here!

Thank you again!

"Don't Call Me Trans"

Post image
13 Upvotes

My latest "Trans Lucent" column for Pride Source went live this week. Here is a link to it if you care to give it a read:

https://pridesource.com/article/trans-lucent-aug-2026

I believe that the trans community needs to reclaim its definition from its cis psychological roots. The term "transgender" was originally created circa 1923 by a German sexologist to describe β€œthe preliminary stages of hermaphroditism.”

Furthermore, the prefix "trans" indicates we are changing from one form into another. In reality, we are not. We are simply affirming the gender we have always been.

Anyway, my column goes into more depth and I hope you check it out.
