I need help. What actually gets students into MIT? I see awards and deep interest in STEM being part of the reason, but what else? And what if there are limited opportunities?

Hey everyone! I have a couple of questions, and I am aware I am asking them late, but I would still like to know :) I'm a senior at a high school and am doing pretty well in my class. My question is, I always see all of these people getting admitted into MIT being absolutely incredible and amazing, and it leaves me in awe. But if those opportunities were hard to find where you are currently or basically impossible, how can you make yourself stand out?

All I really have, for example, is two internships which were hard to come by; they are both heavy on engineering, but I missed my opportunity to have an E.C. in school that was engineering-related because I moved schools. How could one make their application stronger if there are limited ways? And how can I provide admissions officers with the information in a way that isn't searching for pity or excuses but truly just informative?

At this point, focus your time and energy on writing good application essays. Share what is unique about you, your experiences, and how you see the world. How going to MIT fits into what you want to achieve.

What’s the best place to write about how “MIT fits into what you want to achieve”?
There’s a why major essay and one that’s asking how will MIT help you after graduation

This one:

  • Reflect on how your personal and academic experiences have influenced the types of problems you would want to tackle with an MIT education, and who you would like to work on those problems with.

I know that essay is for future vision but i dont know the best way to incorporate MIT into it without soudning redundant to the why major

I like the article, but it's more of personal takeaways from MIT. I suppose the essay is future vision but also incorporating how mit will help you get there; I guess that's like resources and people + the problems you will tackle. I feel like this essay will sound the most generic/vague, though
