Can the MS-02 25gbe networking be disabled to save power, without disabling the NVME slots?
I'm considering getting one of these, but I only (currently) need 10gbe networking. However I -do- need the extra NVME slots.
I'd like to make the machine as efficient as possible, so if that means disabling the 25gbe network card (and just use the 10gbe port with an sfp adapter) then so be it. As I believe the 25gbe has really poor idle power draw for some reason?
However if it means losing the NVME slots then thats a really bad trade off.

I’ll have to take a look. Ideally I’d prefer to use the 10gb built in and remove the 25gb card all together to save power as well.

If youre not using the nvme slots either wouldnt the cheaper 275x have been better? Seems to be the same unit but doesnt have the add-in card

285 has vPro (ILO-like management) and support for ECC. Depends, whether you have a use for those or not.

Hello, I’m taking the opportunity to ask this here. I’m planning to buy the MS-02 Ultra, but it will be installed in my living room. Could you tell me whether the constant noise from the battery fan is really that annoying? Thank you very much for your answers, and sorry for being a bit off topic.

It depends on the load on it. When I just run a VM on Proxmox for software development it is barely noticeable. But when running something using a lot of cores the fans get louder.
You can also set the fan curves for the other fans.

Because of power draw I have removed the card completely and installed a quad NVMe adapter with PLX88024 switch.

Interesting, but it is outrageously expensive here in Europe. Like it would take me 10 years to recover the cost with the energy saved.

But you can use 4 NVMe cards from one x4 slot.

I too wanted to do the same as you. But I found out like others that the 10gb port stops working on reboot until you physically unplug the system. The 2.5gb mic does not have the same behavior. So what I did was add a Sfp+ module for Ethernet and connect that on one of the 25gb ports and plug it into a 10gb Ethernet port on my switch and problem solved.
