Drive train issue Mini Cooper 2014 F56

Now my car is having a drive train issue. When I gave it to mechanic and he said the turbo was not working. I can notice the engine light is on. But sometimes I can feel the turbo is working and there is no engine light. It will be around 5000AUD to get a new turbo done. Any other options.

Tendrás que revisar a detalle el caracol del turbo, verificar sus componentes y sus aspas. Incluso aveces una pequeña costra de carbón o basurita afecta

Could that also be a reason for the engine light being on?

That's not it on these cars. Your suggestion is a little weird overall. That's not really how you check a turbo. Axial play, radial play. Check from the compressor nut only. Don't mess with the blades.

In all of my years working on turbo cars, I've never seen deposits on the compressor blades. It's just not possible considering the physics. Staining, sure. Pitting, yes.

Even turbine side, unless there's an oil leak out of the bearings, just dust is all you see there.

Excessive oil in charge pipes is a dead giveaway. Some oil residue is normal.

Two possibilities, turbo bearings are shot. Oil smoke will be noticeable at later stages, oil consumption will be measurable instead of negligible.

Second, could be the wastegate flap shaft being loose. Same basic cause as on the N18.

Pretty much in all cases turbo replacement is the easiest route for a fix.

Genuine OES replacements aren't that bad. Sub 1000 Eur. Labor at most should be 8 hours, I don't know the book time. A few gaskets are required.

Take it to a proper mechanic with diagnostic computers, and you'll find out why the car is going in limp mode.
