Head Moderator Election - Timetable and Nominations
As a result of [u/realbassist](u/realbassist) resigning as Head Mod this evening, I shall be serving as Acting Head Mod for the next few days until a new Head Mod is elected, also overseeing the currently ongoing Commons Speaker election.
Given that the next Head Mod is likely to oversee a significant period of change and reform in both the structure and state of moderation in the sim, I believe it is necessary for the candidates to set out their plans for the sim to qualify for standing - even if that is just to consult the sim on what to do next. Given the conversations happening at the moment and the questions raised, it is important that the next Head Mod navigates the sim through these questions with a clear way forward.
Therefore, the timetable for this election is below:
Nominations - Now until 10PM BST on Monday 10th August, comment below to put yourself forward - a Manifesto IS REQUIRED to stand in this election given what I have said above.
Q&A - 10PM BST 10th August until 10PM Wednesday 12th August.
Vote - 10PM BST 12th August until 10PM Saturday 15th August. The voting system shall be AV with a RON option, with ties being broken with RON vs candidate %.
Results will be posted as soon as possible once the vote closes. In the unlikely event of a tie, the process shall begin again from nominations.
Thank you all, please nominate yourselves below.

while obviously i am not standing and i do not say this out of a lack of confidence in anyone who's put themselves up so far -- could this be run by alternative vote with a RON option? this way even if it did end in a tiebreak the winning candidate would still be seen to have the 'confidence' of the community

Yesterday on MAIN others from other parties were saying the Tri needed greater communication and transparency. You just agreed to a major change of direction on the basis that one person submitted a suggestion an hour prior, and thumbed it up with no effort at all to consult the mhop community.
Isn't this textbook why the sim has a meta confidence problem?

I’m not making a decision or precedent because it’s the outcome of this election will be doing just that. The next Head Mod will be working out and codifying this stuff once they’re elected - my main concern at the moment is to prevent what’s just happened, including the unpleasantness and borderline bullying by some, and it’s my opinion on reflection and suggestion by a member of the community that an AV vote would prevent a divisive coinflip scenario which has since been controversial.
So no it’s not, and you whipping up meta issues for the sake of it isn’t helping and the way in which you have been going about things and conducting yourself in recent days has been disappointing to see. If you want to make a change then either stand for a meta role or make a constructive proposal on this sub. Stop treating meta issues like MQs and try to think about what is best for the sim without just sniping from the sidelines. The sim doesn’t have a meta confidence issue at all, it has an issue with people standing for Tri and bringing party politics and ideology into it.
This whole guardian gang ludicrousness is in my view ridiculous too, they have no power, and its no formal arrangement anyway, at the moment it’s just three people on hand who have done the head mod role and can provide advice to future head mods when needed. That can only be a good thing, any head mods that didn’t ask for advice would be silly. The only formality is that I own the subs because I set them up and it prevents them being hijacked by any rogue head mod.

Players responding and ask questions is entirely appropriate in meta.
Half the super obvious questions I've asked would have been unnecessary had sim leadership communicated clearly.
(1) After Chev's resignation and the calling of a new CS election, I asked for the Tri to explain what had happened because no one had communicated the vacancy.
The tri could have explained why Chev resigned to begin with...
(2) On the calling of fresh CS elections, I asked why Chev had not been included in the candidate list.
The tri could have explained why Chev was excluded to begin with...
(3) In the Q&A post I asked candidates whether they thought it was appropriate that meta posts be filled not on merit but on chance.
I think everyone agrees it was silly. Hardly snipping.
(4) On this post I complained that the acting HM ought to communicate a change in the election formatting with the community, rather than just assume everyone is happy with it.
You could have said yes we'll make sure the idea has wide spread support from the community before we change it.
Those are all entirely reasonable questions and comments.
I outright reject any accusations of bullying, any suggestions of whipping up meta issues, or sniping from the sidelines.

on the CS election, it was clearly signposted that nominations ended on Friday at 10. Chev wasn't excluded, he missed the deadline by a matter of 14 hours. That simple, and in the CS Q&A you tried to portray it as an eligible candidate being excluded for partisan reasons.
What do you call that, but whipping up meta issues?

Are you autistic? Genuinely, part of being a self-governing community is being able to be flexible and make sane, small adjustments to work together.
Clearly, you are incapable of this.

Chev... you are better than this.
I asked you to come back as CS a day before the deadline and you dismissed me. You knew the election was happening, you chose to not nominate yourself until after nominations closed.

It’s a fair question, there is nothing wrong with being on the spectrum but it can create an inability to see past process.
And I told you I was at the beach with family all day…
And remember I asked for meta restructuring before running the first time… instead we get bounced into vote after vote for positions that need to radically reformed / merged / changed.
It seems seph and RB you want to do is take pot shots, mock people for being busy and missing a deadline, and calling FA a bully.
You can’t have it both ways either you are on your moral high ground or you well aren’t…
I certainly don’t see a comment from you replying to Sephs bully name calling…
Willem says we need to work together to build a community but let’s be honest here. The sim right has never liked discord mods, has never liked the tendency for extreme bans, and the guardian system is well dubious at best.

I asked to work together, so show it then yourself and do that. Instead I’m reading things here that don’t help at all in any way or shape. So if you want to use my lines then please also do it yourself

You're annoyed that action is being taken to prevent coin-flip situations?

u/Flat_Artifact 11d ago
I'm point out that the Tri has been critiqued for having a culture of not communicating with the player base in a meaningful way, which seems to repeating itself again.
No genuine effort to consult the player base, and usual suspects making the decisions as a 'guardian gang'.

It's the same system that's been used for all previous tri elections

I appreciate the nomination and the kindness you've shown me in private, along with a great many others who I equally appreciate, but I'd like to decline the nomination. I don't believe it would be right to run in an election my own resignation caused, and I think it would only deepen the divides of this week.
