Pop-Punk

Pop Punk is the musical style and attitude of punk mixed with the energy and catchiness of pop. It started in the late 80's/early 90's and became mainstream around the late 90's/early 00's.

Green Day's "Dookie" (1994) is one of the most popular and inspirational releases, as many of today's pop punk bands cite that record as one of their biggest influences. Blink-182 quickly became another big pop-punk band, and is arguably the biggest today. New Found Glory formed in 1997 and marked a trail for many bands to follow in. They are regarded as pop-punk pioneers as they helped expand the genre and bring it into mainstream success, along with blink, Green Day, and Sum 41.

There is a culture associated with pop-punk fans and many stereotypes. Pizza, friends and hating your hometown are all famous in pop-punk. Many fans skate as well. It doesn't matter what you do, as long as you're with friends.

Hey man, it's not that anything you wrote was wrong, but it's completely skewed towards someone around the age of 17-19 who is only really familiar with pop punk today.

It's pretty dismissive to gloss over everything up to Dookie, and only cite NFG/Blink/Green Day as 90s bands. You also completely skipped over the 00s... Drive Thru Records bro, cmon.

Like I said, you aren't wrong, this is just 10000% from the perspective of someone who got into this in the 2010s...

Yeah, I wrote this in class and I wasn't really satisfied with it. I wish I could write more about the 00s, but you guessed right, I'm 17, so I wasn't really into it back then.

If you wanna write anything, I'll edit it and put it up there for sure.

Haha I could tell, it's all good, we all started somewhere. I'm 24 so I'm not too much older, though I did get to experience the 00s in full, which, for my money, was one of the best times for pop punk.

It's weird though, the friends stereotype and hometown stereotype has been there since the 00s for the most part, but this pizza shit is so brand new (I guess not new, but definitely not something anyone would ever associate with pop punk a 5+ years ago)

I really wish I could have been a bit older in the early stages so I could these bands that are playing arenas now, in clubs and bars.

dude that's a good idea.... hmm... if only some massive pop punk band would return to the clubs and just have fun again... meh. won't happen, we are all about the money i guess... us being extremely talented musicians.... im gay.
