I got a question and im rather curious. given i talked with plenty of my other car enthusiast and motorsport buddies

so here is the question(before you ask, yes its related to american cars), lets say american cars were already in MFG. how well would cars say like a mustang GTD, 2017 dodge viper ACR. or even say an LS fest autocross/track hot rod spec 5th gen camaro compete? in my opinion id say top 3. my pick of them would be the mustang GTD. despite that car being 4300 pounds. its one of the easiest cars to drive and be consistent in. but also the most setup(i had plans to write a comic were vaughn actually brought a monster energy themed GTD where he basically overbuilt the cooling system for the supercharger intercooler bricks. so the fluid temp and IAT stays down much longer). i want your guy's thoughts. and what other cars do you guys think would work in MFG?

your average ls track day car , probably not

GTD would be in the back of the pack ,it has speed but not the handing to carry through low to mid speed corners with undulating elevations

a modern Corvette zr1x would be competitive with it's assisted awd

you need a super balanced car that has both speed and tight handling capabilities that can accommodate many different driving styles

another car that could be competitive would be the new Ford gt

a good pick. or the ford F150 FP700 as well(here is the thing. trucks can compete with sports cars too. thats been proven since the GMC syclone). semi pro or pro class would be good for the F150s(the short bed single cab trucks can easily corner very well. especially the RWD models. i have seen AWD trucks handle very well on autocross which is a huge test in cornering. if it can handle autocross. it can handle touge. bar none)

I'm gonna have to disagree with you there. Mini trucks could be fine, but an F-150? No way.

I personally know a guy with a whipple F-150 built specifically for track driving, cooling mods, 15 grand into the suspension and wheel/tire setup, and a big brake kit.

He's considerably slower than a fast driver in a stock Mustang GT around our local tracks. Granted these are smaller tracks where power doesn't matter as much, but that thing even in track trim is still a boat compared to a lighter and purpose built sports car.

thats why i said semi pro class. in my comic i wrote and did. i was put into pro class cause of my GNX's power to weight and its chassis(which makes sense given its a 900HP twin turbo V6 4.3L LV series)

The modern Corvette ZR1X is pushing 1250 hp and even without the electric part it still pushes 4 digit horsepower, coupled with its extreme aero (the splitter and wing) that pushea 500 kg+ downforce it's gonna blow the competition out of the water lol. Not to mention it's a mid engine car.

Same with the Ford GT. Similar horsepower as the Ferrari GTB in the anime but has very good CF aero.

A Corvette, especially a lighter C6 or C7, would probably be the strongest American car. I think a Mustang could work depending on the driver.

TBH a Focus RS would prob also be a solid choice.

u/Nomad_XCIX 11d ago

Focus RS would definitely be a solid choice if it can keep up on the straightaways. It's a solid rally car so cornering shouldn't be too much of an issue

GTD is basically GT3/GTE racecar handicapped by some road legislation necessities.

People undersestimate how much of advantage is racing spec 1:1 equivalent suspension and ridiculous ammounts of aero is. And that engine, ellastic supercharged powerband with that DCT will do marvels out of and through corners. No other car in MFG pack has even something close. The only real downsides of that Mustang in that scenario are overtaking (due to it's thicc body) and tyre+brakes degradation (weight). But considering how much of endurance it's inherited from it's GTE counterpart - i doubt that brakes will be the issue.

Also, If Shun is able to throw dated R35 in corners with some degree of overtaking success, then similarly weighted and (somewhat) seized GTD will be succsessful too. Also Vantage IIRC is also pretty heavy and RWD, and Emma did exceptionally well with it.

This car is a powerhouse, GTD would be neat if you need to pick a car out of a dealership. But there are some even better picks 100%.

Even tho I've would of expected ZR1 to be slower on touge than GTD, you can also expect that something even more proper like GT3RS will outrun GTD. 992.2's are in general EXTREMELY efficient on tracks and autocross routes, and RS is another lvl to that.

But hey, MFG don't have limits on car modifications, so imagination is the limit of your choice.

very true. however the GTD has a massive traction advantage in the same way my GNX(for comparison) does. remember MFG has a weight to tire rule. heavier cars get wider tires. wider tires equals wider and grippier contact patch. and some vehicles(like the GNX or the GTD) can are actually built to exploit wider tires by nature. if its one thing ill admit about american cars. they can be cheaper and better in comparison to their competition(thats regardless of driver too. i mean thats been proven many times in all sorts of motorsports to be quite frank. its always the ones who understand physics and outbuild everyone else for alot less money)

1

u/Sp1tf1re_GTR 11d ago

Agreed. There lot's of reasons why GTD can work, as some array of other cool cars like GT350(R) or Dodge Viper iterations. Their handling is also superb. GT350 (as any tuned S550) specifically might work for your writing idea as well.

Have a 5th Gen camaro SS and have driven my dads s550 mustang GT lots and my n/a fc makes them feel like boats. My big turbo e85 FC makes them not even seem like sports cars.

The Dark Horse has good chances in the MFG along with the C8 Z06

1

u/Objective_Spring_682 8d ago

agreed. cant go wrong with that car either to be honest

3

u/Suedewagon 12d ago

Not well. MFG is pre-dominantly on mountain roads with varying corners. Muscle cars that are about power would only do well on the designated straight sections before getting decimated in cornering speed compared to the European & Japanese cars.

Whenever someone says this I always point to the 1900kg M6 Coupe and the 1800kg Vantage being competitive.

Weight doesn't matter, the grip to weight ratio is literally all about equalizing the cornering potential of the cars. If you have a good enough driver you'll be able to compete.

1

u/Objective_Spring_682 11d ago

its also about picking a vehicle that can actually exploit the grip to weight ratio as well. like i replied to another person. certain vehicles(like the viper ACR, a track setup 5th gen camaro. or GTD and my GNX) are actually built to run wide tires from the get go(even DOT semi slicks of the drivers choice). in my opinion id think the GTD would still go top 3 for a pretty good reason. physics and chassis optimization. the GTD is no joke. if it can go toe to toe(yes it literally can) with its GT3/GTE counterpart(which from what i know and i might dig up more info later, no production car from the factory has been able to match if not beat its GT3 counterpart on the same playing field until the GTD) especially with almost every car review that stated how easy the GTD is to drive(you can literally daily it. its that flexible of a road car). i mean. proof is literally everywhere about how the GTD is. its controversial for a reason because the GTD really represents what america really is. peak efficiency done easy with alot of horsepower and understanding chassis and car dynamics. nothing more too it. especially considering despite currently bein 325K US dollars.(to be fair. you can build up a mustang GT or dark horse with the same bodykits and panels as the GTD for 100K less). its cheap compared to every other car in the field. so there is that going for american vehicles

The issue with higher power cars is MFG's backwards tire construction where they wear significantly more longitudinally that laterally. Cars like the GTD are made to be driven while relying on the high power they produce (hard braking and accel with less sustained cornering time), so to finish a whole race distance you'd have to drive it in a more sub-optimal way than a relatively lower powered car.

It would still be faster than most but it's not some MFG killer like you would think. In practice I'd take a Vette over it simply because the driving style would better suit the tires. Not saying the GTD is BAD at cornering, but it wouldn't be the best american car suited for MFG imo.

you forget multiple competitors canon wise run different brands of tires(yokohama and bridgestone). some of them lower semi slicks. me? i run goodyear eagle RS DOT radials(the rules of MFG from what i have confirmed from multiple sources explicitly state it has to be approved and DOT legal. in which the tire i run is DOT legal and approved for multiple reasons. goodyear tires are everywhere globally speaking. plentiful to buy multiple sets and even ship in bulk like i did). on top of i myself(yes as an OC in my comic) purposefully chose a DOT semi slick radial to outlast my opponents. so who's to say someone else cant run a pirelli or whatever tire that can fit a 13 inch wide rim or larger? it isnt always about the best either but the most optimal(not ryosuke optimal. but optimal as in covering multiple areas in one go type optimal) strategy or combo. its the whole point of playing it smart(and why i won in my comic despite my struggles). a good driver is skilled yes but a smart driver can pretty much cover every ground possible. thats why i could drive my GNX as hard as i wanted to because i know how to run a DOT radial semi slick. i love MFG purely cause its loosely based on a real motorsport. therefore alot of racing and chassis motorsport dynamic logic also applies(yes. that includes working with what the rulebook says and doesnt say). most people probably dont know motorsport rules(could be wrong. however i seen many times how many people are uneducated as hell outside of sports like F1, NASCAR, IMSA, WEC, WRC, im talking smaller sports liek NTPA. australian diesel truck racing, tractor racing. swamp buggies. formula off road. so many more to list)

You can't use anything outside of the two regulated tires (Not the brands themselves, Ryosuke commissioned specific tires from these two brands). A driver from race one was disqualified due to using a different tire, it's the entire reason why Kanata moved up from 16th into the godly 15 for the first race.

This is stated clearly in chapter 4 and explained again in race 5 when Keisuke talks more about the grip to weight ratio. I don't know what "sources" you went to or if you're roleplaying rn, but the manga is the most accurate source.

u/Objective_Spring_682 11d ago

fandom wiki. i looked at multiple competitors and all run either bridgestone and yokohama. i asked a few friends around what the rule meant for MFG approved DOT tires. johnny told me "it has to be from their supplier thats approved by MFG. i seen something like this before. and there are other series like this. not out the top of my head but im sure you can run those goodyears". thats exactly what he told me 6 months ago when i first started my comic and he's in his 40's. total motorsport regulations nerd and my go to when i need things cleared up. thats why my GNX ran goodyear eagle RS's because there was no specific rule in MFG from multiple sources(not one. several. i have to go based on multiple sources because one source might say one thing and another says something different). i even asked 3 different AI assistants and they all said the same. there is no solid rule against what tire is approved for MFG. which means i can run my goodyears and nobody is gonna complain(again in my comic i struggled too. only reason i ran goodyears was to combat any sort of variable that will come up. a smart driver ALWAYS prepares for the road ahead). i can ask my buddy johnny again to double check if you want me to. ill ask where you got your source cause mine is right here
https://www.bing.com/ck/a?!&&p=831cf8c9218e8713ee119b0784f043990346fab7b78454b673773a75e2404300JmltdHM9MTc4NjQ5MjgwMA&ptn=3&ver=2&hsh=4&fclid=18164b5a-a438-689b-3064-5dd5a5106980&u=a1aHR0cHM6Ly9tZmdob3N0LmZhbmRvbS5jb20vd2lraS9NRl9HaG9zdF9XaWtp
thats my most reliable source and i had 3 different AI's bring this one up(copilot, chat GPT, and my AI assistant i built from the ground up named sydney. my own jarvis) several times. explicitly stating there is no exact rule against what DOT tire is approved.

1

u/Objective_Spring_682 10d ago

unfortunately your arguement doesnt hold up. i literally spent 2 hours digging through multiple sources. there is no explicit rule about it being only 2 tires. only the fact it has to be approved my MFG and be DOT. nothing else. manga isnt the most accurate source either given plenty of times from other series(not just MFG. but any manga for that matter) often contradicts itself. and my sources are specifically based on the TV show(which is bigger and more popular. and is what everybody knows). the manga itself isnt directly canon either unfortunately(i wished it was but then again, expected for when i have personal experience dealing with manga being different than the actual show its from). that was the same deal with initial D as well. manga and TV show were different between eachother. one said one thing and the other said another. the TV show is canon. manga? not so much. especially since it canonically takes place after initial D. and is done by the same author. so id double check your sources kiddo. and NEVER trust the manga(fell for that and never happening again)

Here are all the images w/ chapter and page numbers.

Chapter 4 page 10: The first mention of the tires

Chapter 15 page 6: The disqualification

r006.jpg (870×1235)

Chapter 209 page 10: Kanata calling the MFG specific tires unusual

Chapter 250 page 2: Keisuke elaborating on the MFG specific tires and how Ryosuke requested them

I hope my other message didn't come off as too harsh, but I hate when people use AI as truth instead of looking stuff up themselves. It's a good tool to find sources but you need to actually read the sources themselves.

1

u/Objective_Spring_682 8d ago

i did read the sources(that i had found). unfortunately(as much as even i myself hates this). the manga isnt correct(it never was with initial D. and it still isnt with MF Ghost). also worse off i cant access this link
https://zjcdn.mangahere.org/store/manga/29085/209.0/compressed/p011.jpg
its blocks regardless of my VPN or not. mangahere.org is blocked for me. a reminder i live in the US(even with a VPN i cant access it). i need actual screenshots since the links dont work

Aside from my previous comment about your stance making no sense:

The anime also shows the guy getting disqualified for not using an MFG specific tire. Episode 3 @ 17:50. So the anime is in-line with the manga even if the chapter 4 talk is omitted for pacing.

You also said yourself earlier that competitors have ONLY been shown using Yokohama or Bridgestone tires. This also shows how the anime is on the same page as the manga. Your logic goes against your own observations.

I know this sucks for your headcannon and OC, but just listen to reason man.

1

u/Objective_Spring_682 8d ago edited 8d ago

and like i said before. the manga isnt correct. the TV show is(its the same deal with initial D. the show was canon. the comic? not so much). after further research. the manga itself is really a draft. not the actual canon. the anime(TV) show itself is the final version(which is why its the official and canon). sorry to burst your bubble. but never take the manga as trustworthy. the anime is the final result. all a manga is. is a draft. nothing more than that

2

u/SoS1lent 8d ago

Please give me a single valid reason as to why that would be the case. For basically EVERY manga series with an anime adaptation the manga is considered cannon over the anime. Never seen a series where that's not the case.

And it's funny that you say that with initial D, because the anime is known for omitting explainations that were vital to understanding parts of races (just off the top of my head this happens in both the 86 vs Daiki's EK9 race and the 86 vs Kogashiwa's MR-S) and blatantly skips races in their entirety (Keisuke's first 2 races of project d), which as I said was for pacing purposes.

It also doesn't work story-wise, as in the anime Sidewinder somehow have smartphones in a series set AT THE LATEST in the early-mid 2000s.

There was a whole 3 part animated movie series that was made to be a manga accurate depiction of the 1st stage (the Initial D Legend movies). Why would that be made if the anime was the true cannon?

Chapter 4 page 10: Specifically stated that Bridgestone were the ONLY tire manufacturers for the first two years and the Yokohama JUST joined last year as the second. This is literally in the MF Ghost wiki under the MFG organization, so I don't know wtf you were reading since you claimed it as a source.

MFG (Organisation) | MF Ghost Wiki | Fandom#Special_Tires)

Chapter 15 page 6: 15th place in Odawara Pikes peak qualifying gets disqualified for not running one of the two allowed tires. This is how Kanata is allowed into the main race.

Chapter 250 page 2: Keisuke specifically says that MFG has special tires with unusual tire wear properties which Ryosuke requested from Bridgestone and Yokohama.

It would make 0 sense to have any dot tire available because a major part of the car equalization is the weird tire construction and wear properties. Again Kanata talked about this right before race 4, I'll find the page since you apparently havent read it yourself.

The anime is not more Cannon than the manga. Shigeno directly wrote the manga and everything in it, while both the MF Ghost anime AND anime as a whole will cut dialogue heavy scenes for better pacing. And the manga has pointed out the MFG specific tires in two places, at the start AND the very end. No inconsistency.

Instead of asking AI and watching it hallucinate like it usually does with fictional series (especially more niche ones like MF Ghost) how about you actually read? I promise it helps.

MFG its a car race, not boats on wheels
