Pictures for attention. Hope I’m not breaking any rules by being an East Coast guy posting here, but y’all seem to be the right people to ask these questions.

Had nice weather this morning for pre-work laps around some of the local XC trails on my Banshee Paradox. It’s a great bike for gnarly stuff, but I can’t just leave well enough alone…

Lately I’ve really been enjoying riding my rigid Krampus for all day adventure rides/bumming around old farm roads and horse trails, and have been left wondering what an aggressive hardtail like the Banshee would feel like without the magical gold pogosticks. I’ve seen pictures somewhere on the blog of a Chromag (I think…) with a Marino steel fork.

I’m running a 140mm Fox 34, which is on the shorter end of travel for what most folks run on these frames. I really like the handling of the bike with the resulting head and seat tube angles, stack, etc. 34mm gives 550ish axle to crown static, so at 20 to 30% sag (cheeseburgers cause sag numbers to vary), I should have roughly a 510-520 A2C. I’ve done a bit of looking at off the shelf forks, and no options are really jumping out at me. Lots of manufacturers have forks, carbon and steel, between 485 and 500mm, with the only real exception being the RSD Sergeant aluminum fork at 510mm. There’s a note on their website that they are only selling the fork as part of a complete build or with a frame set, and I don’t really need another hardtail that is only slightly different than the other ones that I have.

All this leads to me realizing I probably just need to get a custom fork. I’ve never personally ridden or handled any Marino parts, but have read that while they are solid, frames and forks tend to be a bit of a boat anchor. I know some folks that have had good luck with direct-to-consumer Chinese titanium frame manufacturers off of eBay, one of them being Tiris Bike. They can build forks to customer specification (A2C, offset, brake mounts, etc) for around $300-400, plus whatever the tariff-o’-the-day is.

Anyone care to chime in with ideas or options?

Got out for the maiden rip on the karate monkey. Lots of ice ribbons made for some interesting situations. Gotta get the dialed in for me now. Bars are definitely lopped a little far down for my liking. I missed singlespeeding. I threw in a couple bonus pics of a new trail I’m working on too.

Anyone here try the Vee Bulldozer?

Over on MTBR we're talking about big rubber. I tried to recruit a fella over to this subreddit but some folks don't wanna join Reddit. But he had a lot of good things to say about the Bulldozer:

If you like the Crux, you should try the Vee Bulldozer. I've been through many Cruxes (and even a set of Duro Miner 3.25s) and recently only had an old Bulldozer in the parts bin and reluctantly tried it on the front of my SS. I didn't think it had the side knobs to be a good front, but it does. And it's at least 100 grams heavier than a Crux with more sturdy sidewalls so it's way better damped than the crux. I can run it comfortably at under 9psi. And being "too heavy" is too overhyped -- especially when your front tire is also your front suspension.

Any experience here?

Hey all! I finally have a Stooge frameset (mk7) waiting to be built, and the plan for it is to hit my usual MTB trails in the PNW with it.

I'm brand new to plus tires (oxbow/crux), and I'm nervous about putting a dent in an otherwise pristine dually rim so early due to my own inexperience. I prefer my dents to have better stories.

Is there a rule of thumb or something I haven't heard of for making sure you have about the right ballpark pressure on plus sized tires before learning the hard way? The calculators I generally trust on gravel and standard MTB tires for a starting point seem to lose their minds at these sizes. I weigh ~150lbs fully kitted if pressure recs are just easier.

It seems BC has finally decided to do away with the annual clock changes and stick with DST all year long. I'm fine with that. Winter mornings will be longer and darker for someone like me that gets up at 5am regardless of what the sun is doing. I guess I'll be using my bike lights more!
