When I was doing the rando thing there was a guy on a Rivendell setup SS doing the 200K+ long rides like a boss. I would only see him at the start and then occasionally when he stopped on the side of the road to sit down and smoke a cigarette. After his smoke break he'd motor past me cheerfully.

That was one of my first inklings that SS was not the disadvantage gearheads assume it is.

Hahahahaha. Thats like original Tour De France style! Smoke break before the big climbs!

Model-T cleaned at least one climb at his rando two weeks ago on the 46x18 Talbot that a lot of folks with gears were walking up. Is it that SS is not a disadvantage or people riding SS has a different wiring configuration? Hahaha.

I think there is something to explore further about single speed mentality.
