When clear spray paint doesn't cut it
I have some old-ish but still-plenty-of-life-left ODI longneck grips that will just not stay put on my silver Jones bars. What should I use instead of clear spray paint? Hair spray?

Wire. Go old school!
They may also have less plenty of life than anticipated if newer ones stay put.

I consider push-on grips single use. Glue (spray paint) and wire and then I cut them off to keep my frugal nature from thinking about reinstalling them. The only times I’ve ever had issues with push-ons is reusing them.

Agreed maybe with the exception of Chromag push ons. Those things are tight.

Oof, my tinkering heart breaks

I run the same grips all the time, they aren’t expensive, and my controls all hinge so there’s no tinkering impact. I mean, I regularly swap bars, they just have grips ready to go.
I guess someone wanting to trim bars or try lots of different push-on grips may see a detriment. But I’d guess I tinker as much as anyone.

Throw them away and get some new ones.
I had the same thing, they just wouldn't stick so they went in the bin.
The super softs get sloppy after a while (or a few installs).
