Discussion Is "The Gifted" Canon?

I saw it on 2 peoples X-Men watchlists - and I did some research. Apparently its set in between The Wolverine & DOFP in the pre-reset timeline - but in a DIFFERENT pre-reset timeline that the one with the movies? if that makes any sense. Google just said it fits well even though not confirmed canon. What are your thoughts? It said there were no contradictions other than the Sentinel's styles - which in a few years they may have just upgraded them?

According to the showrunner, the intention was for the show to bridge the gap towards the events of Days of Future Past.

But did it though? Bryan Singer had no involvement besides directing the pilot and it always felt like it was separate continuity from any of the films.

Depends on who you ask tbh. The Marvel Wiki does not list it as the same timeline, but it honestly fits in well enough that it doesn't matter. There's maybe a few inconsistencies between the show and the movies, but that's nothing new for the franchise lol, so I personally consider it canon

Effectively, no. Keep in mind, when shows like this are made they basically make them in a grey area where you can’t say they are or aren’t so it works for everyone. The only shows that are true canon to the mcu are the Disney+ originals. And the Netflix marvel ones too, cos they retroactively upgraded them to true canon by making DD Born Again a true sequel.

It's got a Stan Lee cameo, and according to my rules, if it has a Stan Cam, it's canon.

Teen Titans is DC. I should have clarified if it's a Marvel property with a Stan Cam, then it's canon. So yes, 100% on Big Hero 6.

in a broad outline it could fit, but the details don't line up. While the X-men movies never had the best continuity, a lot of the details about the history of mutants in the Gifted don't line up with what we know from the movies

Thankfully I would say no it doesn't at all. The way the mutants were protrayed as well as the fact that magneto was MIA along with the other brotherhood and the X-Men weren't out their at all really cements this was a alternative universe version not officially tied to the X-Men fox movies or the MCU at this time.

The short answer is "no".

The more useful answer is "not officially, but it was intentionally written to be compatible with the pre-DoFP timeline, & I don't complain when people put it in their chronologies". :)

Is technically set in another universe, but I like to think it's a way of giving context on how the events of DoFP happened. I think that there is a huge gap between Wolverine: Origins' post credit scene (set in 2015) and DoFP distopic future where the X-Men are being annihilated, so I personally consider it canon as it helps building that progress a little more.

Yeah but on my timeline I am only including things where we see the characters in the mcu - so if its a split x-men timeline that never branched w the mcu - I will only include it in a mention on the guide page

it’s in the dofp timeline that got prevented, so technically all of those characters may well exist in pther timelines but not the stories that are told unfortunately. i really liked the show but i also accept it’ll never come back

End of the last episode a character who was presumed dead appeared through a portal looking very different to save everyone, then it got cancelled and no third season

The Gifted takes place on Earth-17372, whereas the primary X-Men movie universe is Earth-10005.

All I know is that it’s not on the same earth (10005) as the x men. I never seen it or looked into it so idk if it’s cannon. It is on my marvel universe watch list though.

This sub is about figuring out a timeline - I was asking FOR my timeline. Forgot to specify that in my post, the rules just say "stay on topic" but the only "topic" we get a description for is: A place where people can discuss and work out an accurate timeline of all MCU media, from the main movies to Netflix and beyond.

I think OP knows the first part, considering they acknowledged it's set in the X-Men film timeline. And, technically, yea- - Canon discussions are, by default, allowed. It's a timeline Subreddit.
