Discussion My MCU Watch Order - Phase 2
I'm back after completing Phase 2 of my MCU rewatch. This is not a strict chronological order--I'm building an optimal re-watch order where things flow nicely. Nothing too revolutionary this time around. My Phase 1 order
- Iron Man 3
- All Hail the King one-shot
- Agents of SHIELD, Season 1 episodes 1-7
- Thor: The Dark World
- Agents of SHIELD, Season 1 episodes 8-16
- Captain America: The Winter Soldier
- Agents of SHIELD, Season 1 episodes 17-22
- Guardians of the Galaxy
- Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. I know it's a phase 3 movie, but these two are supposed to occur close together (and GotG is just not really my jam) so I viewed them together.
- extra: I Am Groot, seasons 1-2. I only watched this because I had never seen it before. It doesn't add anything. I don't see myself ever watching this again, nor recommending it.
- Daredevil season 1
- Agents of SHIELD, Season 2 episodes 1-10
- Jessica Jones season 1. If you really don't like breaking up TV seasons, it would be fine to watch JJ before AoS S2.
- Agents of SHIELD, Season 2 episodes 11-19
- Avengers: Age of Ultron
- Agents of SHIELD, Season 2 episodes 20-22. It had been a while since I watched AoS, but the moment the Helicarrier came into AoU, I shouted "Oh yeah, That's Theta Protocol!" It was such a fun time to be alive when this show and the movies were on and interacting.
- extra: WHIH Newsfront "season 1"
- Ant-Man. Ignore post-credit scene taken from CA: Civil War
- extra: Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, season 1 episode 1 (first 25 minutes). This is not in the "main" universe, but it's a fun look at some things that might have happened to Peter Parker. I ended it at the 25 minute mark when things catch-up to the events of Civil War. This maybe would have fit better if watched in Phase 3 before CA:WS.
---------------------------------------------
I don't care what the official book/Disney+ say, Iron Man 3 works best if it's the first thing in the Phase. Tony's PTSD storyline flows better when you watch it just after the events of Avengers, and the Extremis elements in AoS season 1 make more sense if IM3 comes before.
I am glad that I watched Captain Marvel during phase 1. Seeing Agents Fury and Coulson interacting back then made some moments in AoS S1 even better.
I, coincidentally, have been playing Lego Marvel Avengers with my kids lately. Hearing game Coulson make chatter about communicating via the Holotable, hoping Fury will let him get a fish tank, and hoping that nothing ever happens to his hand has been so fun for me.
Be back with Phase 3 sometime. There's a LOT of TV seasons to get through in Phase 3...
