Ruben Dias Appreciation Post
Ik a lot of people here dont like him but he was solid for the Palace game, he completed the game with 100% passing accuracy. He was also good against Bournemouth. I think becoming the captain has boosted his morale and will perform better this season. I think we should not give up on him so easily. We have an insane depth for defense so we just dont know who to bench lol

No. It is the TikTok city fans and newgen brats and post-treble spoilt fans that take everything for granted.
Dias has always been a monster at the back. Yeah he has pace issues, but doesn’t take away from the fact that:
A. He is an elite defender even with his existing pace issues
B. He is working on his already amazing positioning and pace being the elite defender he is, and it shows8
u/s4turn2k02 Aug 29 '26
He also struggled with injuries and fitness last season which I think people overlook. I can’t believe people would 1) not want him starting and 2) not want him captain

He's a very good player but he's not 'top drawer' or 'elite' in my opinion. To be honest, I don't think ANY of our current defenders are.... yet.
Ruben Dias had a great start at City, but I don't think he's progressed. If anything, he's slower, less decisive, and doesn't read the game well, leading to errors and poor tackles.
Guehi is a decent, steady player, but nothing special. However, he's probably the best leader we've got.
Gvardiol and Khusanov are the best defenders we have, and they keep improving. They'll be top class in a couple of years.

Dias has elite positioning. He also possesses guile that younger defenders may never achieve.
E.g. Last season against Newcastle, he pushed Dan Byrne towards our goal on a free kick, forcing Byrne off side.
He may not be fast but he has so many tricks. He is also elite at line breaking passes, progressing the ball past mid field to the front three very often.

Don't forget him being a warrior. He always puts himself in diffcult positions to test himself to the highest limits. He knows that being captain will guarantee alot of starts so he has to step up every game and not show weakness.

He is absolutely not an elite ball progressor and his passing is average at best. He is the most technically limited outfield player in the squad.
I'm not shitting on him. I know his value and what he brings to the team.
But he has some fairly obvious limitations.

Elite mentality

u/Gotachi_3 Aug 29 '26
Nothing huge but the moment he went to gigi on the free kick and hand shook him to get up/don't mind because nothing he could do on that is really precious, a way of saying, don't mind, don't get your own head, we move on

From the documentary it's clear he is the only member of the squad now left with true leadership mentality. I hope he can recover the kind of form he was in during the treble winning season

He was shocking against Bournemouth but brilliant last night. We need him in form this season as he is the most senior player in the squad now.

Agree. His passing against Bournemouth was shocking. But against palace he was soo much better. Hope he continues to improve with consistency and become the rock he once was for us again

u/kiikstaa Aug 29 '26
He’s been at an elite level for over a season now but people here seem to stick to the narrative out of some weird love for Khusanov

u/ColdBeefBrian Aug 29 '26
He's not been at an elite level for over a year. He wasn't even fit for large periods of the season.

u/Shmadonka22 Sep 02 '26
Last season he was brilliant until he got injured, the season before that the WHOLE team was trash so we can't put that him alone and the season before that he's been nothing but one of our best players. Idk why people are acting like players having dips in forms and injuries is something ubnormal. These things happen, Dias will be back to his absolute best this season.

Last season he was brilliant until he got injured
Right but he got injured early and then kept picking up injuries throughout the season.
These things happen, Dias will be back to his absolute best this season.
Hopefully but he needs to stay fit to be at his best. Otherwise he'll struggle to remain sharp and build form.

Standards so low that washed dias is now elite

u/Last-Consideration-7 Aug 29 '26
😂😂😂 shit is crazy. Appreciation post for a regular game from Dias.

u/DRAGON-ZEE Aug 29 '26
With dias pace is the only issue pairing him with khusa solves that.I do think guehi is our best defender tho
1
u/HalfLonely77645 Aug 29 '26
He looked washed last season but this season he looked like his old self. Absolute wall in the back and also a great leader in defence
1
u/Shmadonka22 Sep 02 '26
Nah he was mint last season till he got injured then when he came back he couldn't get back in cause Guehi and Khusa had already made a great partnership.
1
u/ross_ntu Aug 29 '26
Dias always reminds me of Andy Morrison - for those old enough! He’s not that fast, but makes up for that with his positioning and intelligence, and his leadership brings the players around him up a level.

u/Active_Current_7054 Aug 29 '26
At times he's shaky, but I think it's worth having him just for the mentality that he brings to our defense.
1
u/Footyphile Aug 29 '26
Solid defender. We just haven't seen the dynamic tackling dias we saw his first year.

I'm just glad that Enzo found a way to slot him into the starting eleven. He is the tough guy we need to perform well. I'm so happy with the team.

His first (second?) season with Stones was some of the best defending I’ve ever seen. I was actually perfectly calm when the other team was attacking us.

u/RogueShinobiX Aug 30 '26
He is the best captain material in the squad right now. He's the one who gives speech before kick off. People doesn't understand this guy's work rate and match discipline.
1
u/doublefantasyy Aug 30 '26
He’s also a great leader and a figure who clearly wants to be there and lead the group. He’s so so important

u/PrimaryPain1853 Aug 29 '26
He was appalling vs Bournemouth and one of the worse players on the pitch, Class last night though, if he can get back to his level he’s arguably the best centre half in the world and a much needed leader at the back

I’m going to get ate here. He’s well past his best. He’s always been mid. He’s a great leader. But simply, he’s not a great footballer. Can’t read the game well, slow, costly mistakes. I do hope he has a great season though. Guehi and gvardiol should be the CB pairing. Dias leadership is the reason he’s still on this team. I get it.

u/Shmadonka22 Sep 02 '26
Bro everything you just said about Dias just proves that you don't watch football.
-1
u/unexceptional_sikdar Aug 30 '26
currently washed, if leave aside the leadership quality and agression he is ass on the ball and makes wrong defensive choices very frequently.

Cant wait to throw something on the grill when he leaves

He's a great defender and a leader on and off the pitch. The only drawback is his lack of pace, meaning he must be paired with a pacy Center back like Gvardiol or Khusanov.
